So, last 24 hours when I play guitar my fret hand and arm ache, my hand goes numb and fingers turn blue. If I got a Drs appt (100.00) I'd get a referral to a Neurologist (100.00).....for testing (2000.00)...and then he/she would refer me to Vascular Dr (100.00)....more tests (3000.00)....surgery if necessary (50,000.00), therapy (6000.00)...Hospital bill....(35,000.00) blah, blah, blah.....Or....

...Google myself silly, RESEARCH...find on line self testing for multiple syndromes that could cause this, self diagnose Thoracic Outlet Syndrome - compression of nerves, arteries and veins in shoulder and lateral neck (where Spock squeezes you unconscious) caused by repetitive acts, poor posture,...seen in guitar players....blah, blah, blah.

Found online physical therapy exercises for this "syndrome", will change my posture and position when I play and find an "ergonomically correct" position going forward to prevent this from occurring again.

Total saving?

Dr route - almost 95 k not to mention missed work, pain and suffering, surgical risks, medications, addiction, I'd have to become a "gamer", buy PlayStation 20,...blah, blah...

Internet route -

Google - 45 min of research, 10 minutes of testing, 10 minutes of exercises (daily for 2 weeks)....

Total price - 1 hr of time, 20 mb of internet data (video -YouTube).

Think Ill write myself a RX for steroids and opioids and take 3 more days off.

Certainly not advocating for this over a thorough medical exam but simply making a point on the potential power of the internet.

Happy New Year
Peace.

I learned the hard way, years ago, getting tendonitis in my deltoid, ( which meant I couldn't play my guitar or piano for more than five minutes in a sitting, for about a year, dealing with cold packs every night, etc ) that whenever I experience pain, do not play past the pain, lay off, give the arm/hand, etc., a rest until it goes away. Doing this, I've avoided things like carpal tunnel, tendonitis, 'cause pain has come, but this time, I listen to my body, I don't play past the pain. As long as I've been doing that, I've avoided it. When you get these things, it's usually your body saying to you, "okay, you didn't listen to me, and now I'm gonna kick your arse".

I always had the numbness. But recently bought a fender strat, a heavy one and suddenly my fingers were blue. Yeah, getting old sux. My body tells me daily. But thankfully my hearing's going, too and I dont have to listen to it.
