"Lennon, More Than A Memory"
https://www.soundclick.com/newyesterdays

Brian placed our song at number 8 one year. Thank you Brian! Here is the music video with that song. The video part was a surprise for us, having been made on his own, by Joey Redfish, (as he goes by).

Today in 1980, John Lennon was gunned down after a recording session for the album, Double Fantasy.

I always liked that song John. I hope you find a way, with all the tools that are available and your talent for arranging and studio stuff, to keep making music even with your hearing issue. What if you did it using technology to keep volumes very low while creating then people can hear it full volume when they are enjoying it? You could even get the help of someone to help you do the final mix to protect your ears and still get the sound right. Think about it!

Thank you, Brian! You KNOW I have been thinking about that and other things, uh, about 24 hours a day! Despite my TRY at retiring, so I can even NOT have low volumes of music be heard. It all affects my audio canal's damaged hairs and nerves. The other day on a ride to my mother in laws, the highway noise from just one 1/4 mile section of concrete of similar, REALLY triggered an instant shooting up up a similar noise as to the road's sudden noise, going 65MPH. Cindy jumped as I yelled, WTF! I kept driving as usual, but, that whole day and night was unbearable IF I hadn't told myself to NOT let it bother me. Cindy's mom, (at 90), didn't have to know, so we all just kept talking as we usual do. BUT, she still plays the BIG cabinet organ in her small apartment in the Mason's built complex. Cindy looked at me in horror, but, I waved her off form telling her mom. I just put my musician's ear plugs in again, and smiled. I found it better to stand next to the organ, to avoid the direct waves of the speakers. That was better. But, wow, did I pay for all of that on the way home, with MORE road noise. I didn't sleep that night til about 5 am, for nothing wold mask the LOUD sounds, and even half masking, the sound machine was WAY too loud for Cindy, or the sleeping birds outside! haha.

I have been doing my music here at low volumes, and trying to do it all in quick time. I have been tracking about 16 to 24 tracks of this and that in about 2 hours, (composing as I go, so not to have to play something over and over, trying things. I simply trust myself to come up with effective hooks as I imagine them, right before playing the keys for any particular instrument sound. I have been doing that for about 5 years, since the Appel/Caro sessions in Staten Island. That is why lately, I felt, and made known to ALL I sent requests out, that I could work for them to their money-wise benefit, providing many parts of anything, (real drums if preferred), in short time. Studio time costs, so I went with that angle, along with all which I could provide. HOOKS! THEMES! Transition chords/rifs. Accents, and many instrument sounds, plus basic guitar playing. (NO Clapton or similar leads though). Chords and/or Creative Hooks.

What have I gotten back form ALL studios around here, and those in other areas? NOT ONE REPLY. I called, emailed and texted those who said to either or all. NOTHING!

Is why I finally thought to myself, "You know what, I am banging my head against a wall that isn't breakable). Maybe studios mainly use programs. Maybe they have their musician friends all lined up. Maybe, maybe". I don't know, for no one would let me know anything! I would even now take, "You are living in the past, man"! "You're style is dead, man"! Yeah, well then, fine. SO, how about I show you what else I can do, by giving me ANY kind of music to put anything YOU ask to try? That is what Appel did, throwing "Romano Musolini's All Star Band" at me! Or, "Stagedoor Johnny", or any of the other Non usual songs from any era. He said I made those songs into masterpieces. Caro too, for the parts he put in them when not too ill. I didn't hear those songs before pushing RECORD, as trying things on the first listen even. I got lucky a few times. Others, I worked on parts to get them better played or whatever other details Appel or Caro asked me to try. I played real drums, after not playing anything on drums for a year, and that was for five minutes. I somehow don't need practicing. I must be athletic enough to just do what I imagine the drums should be playing in whatever song or section. One song I did in one take, with not trying anything before saying, Hit Record. While playing other parts on the keys, I guess my music brain was doing drums on the side! haha! That's the only thing I can think of to explain it. I payed the price, ear wise for doing that. BUT, it did bring GREAT pleasure while laying down those drum tracks at different nights for a few songs. I created Sinatra type horn sections for one song, and some other style for another. I must retain most music styles and chords and hooks that I heard since a kid. ??? Seems that way. It all seems too easy. Major FUN.

I get inspired form what I am hearing, (on the spot usually, for any instrument of band and or an orchestra). From how? From doing that here over and over, challenging myself all the time with all kinds of music no one has even heard. BUT, all that really made my ears worse, even at the low volumes. Damaged nerves don't need much to get triggered. (like pushing on a bone bruise the first day). Except the ear damage doesn't heal. They only get worse.

So, it's off to Astronomy it seems. Telescope from daughter Tracy for my 65th. Lots to learn and do. The thing I didn't tell her though, is besides my ears, I also have massive floaters in both eyes. They are seen even more in the images I look at through the telescope. Haha. BUT, I will also deal with that, and just keep looking up! What else can any of us do, but try to get through conditions we ALL have. I am still lucky to JUST have those bothersome, but not fatal or sickening conditions. MANY are way worse off. I feel bad for THEM, if worse than what I have. Wow!

Thank you again, Brian! But not getting work is not from me not trying. (40 years worth actually). Just seems I am at a crossroads for my time spent here on music, and moving on to other things. Astronomy, as mentioned, for one. Hundreds of emails in this past year alone. ONLY Peter Asher in that timeframe replied with a polite, Can't listen,,,,,and for the reasons I had laid out before here.

Thank you for being in my corner and trying for me as I know you have.

Onward and Upwards!

John
