Really? A jet for life? $49 Million Salary? Still no enforcement of the "Standing for and Respecting the National Anthem rule?" Do you really believe your sorry butt is worth that much money? It appears the NFL Owners think you are nearly worth that much... so, with their departure for what I consider common sense and sanity... and because you sorry creeps won't accept an e-mail from a "commoner" like me... I'm using the only avenue available to me for exercising my right to tell you and the NFL to GO TO HELL!
A few years ago, you creeps told Phoenix Arizona they had to accept Martin Luther King Day as a "Holiday" or you would "pull your franchise" from Arizona. So you believe Doctor King's Holiday is more important than our NATIONAL ANTHEM! By what stretch of logic did you arrive at that conclusion? No disrespect to Dr. King. I simply believe you overpaid, fuzzy brained idiots don't have a clue about what made this country the Beacon of the Free World.
I have drawn my "line in the sand" and will gladly forego watching, attending, buying or supporting anything related to the NFL. May you sink quickly in any available harbor of hate.

Hey Dave I can't say that I'll watching the NFL BUT these kinds of salaries are an affront to my senses. I find it appalling and disgusting that people or athletes etc. make this kind of money when people and families three blocks down and around the corner or across the tracks are living in their cars or under a bridge. Our Country has lost it's way and I hate it. How many millions does anybody need and how many bedrooms and bathrooms in their stinking mansions do they need. America is Toast.

Well, I have been a little miffed about "College" Sports for some time. I think you can no longer call big time college sports anything but Pro Sports. College is supposed to be for higher education but a lot of those players are taking "Raindrop Counting, "Water Bucket Management" and "Introduction to Basket Weaving". Leaving for the Pros before Graduation cheapens the Sport. A long time ago only Juniors and Seniors could play. 40 Bowl Games? When do the players have time to get into the classroom and do any serious study? Now we have a playoff in college football. It is stupid. We need to get back to the Old Bowl system where you only played if you won your Conference.
We have way too much sports. Some of those Stadiums at those Bowl games are mostly empty. Pro Sports? I watch very little. And I never take my country for granted. Geronimo!

I don't agree. I'd like to see 8 or 12 teams in a tournament. But I agree that every winner of a conference should be automatically in....

Putting a team in that didn;t even win half their conference to get to their championships is a crock... Either Ohio State or USC should have gone before Alabama. /It's all fixed anyway....

Switching my "ire" away from the NFL... Ray has brought up an interesting point about college scholarships. I've long thought these young men in football programs should be required to complete a four year program leading to a degree (or whatever the requirements happen to be for their chosen field) because the time spent in the NFL... if they get lured away... will be short. Most of these young men are ill equipped to handle the job market or handle the kind of money that is thrown at them. All too many of them end up with broken limbs or concussions that make life after football a tough row to hoe. If they stay in school and complete a degree plan they will have something to lean on when all the glory disappears. Many blow their earnings on cars and hi-jinx then end up flat broke when it runs out.
Admittedly, some of these degree plans are little more than an exercise in planned failure. I wish Universities would get off their high horses and recognize the value of creating machinists, plumbers, carpenters, bricklayers and other needed crafts. We can't all be rocket scientists or PHD's but we do need qualified workers on a broad front. It amazes me that some of these craftsmen earn more than many Doctors, Lawyers and Business Owners.
If we do get our industrial base back to where it needs to be, these craftsmen and women will be needed on a scale we have not seen in years.
As far as the college football playoffs are concerned... I agree with Bryan. We need a better system. I also agree that we have way too many college bowl games with teams who barely ended up winning half their games. Totally meaningless!

I'm amazed that anyone gets this worked up about sports entertainment.
That being said, there was a football player at my University who was also part of my fraternity. He was a good student and a good ball player. The University has since disallowed anyone in the University athletics program to also partake in the Greek system. Go figure. My first hand experience is anecdotal to the musings in this thread, but then I never got worked up about sports entertainment. I do appreciate watching it from time to time, especially when they make amazing plays that defy the science of how most human bodies move.

Goodwill is going to rule with the interest of keeping the nfl a money making machine.
He hasn't stepped in about he kneeling because he thought that there are just as many minorities and people who agree watching as there are non minority. And let's face it, the better athletes are usuallly African American, and to go towards basketball, how do you have a league, if Lebron James says he supports kneeling? You don't
That said the kneeling didn't bother me because I don't watch pre game shows anyway, nothing worse than bone heads saying who they think is going to win.
If people want to demonstrate like that, they have the right, I think it's the worst place to do it, but so be it.
Nfl still destroys baseball by a landslide, a pre season football game gets more viewers than a World Series baseball game. So that's not hurting them.
Dave that kind of money is paid because it brings in billions, doctors don't. I agree what's more important, but it's about what brings in money, which is why Miley Cyrus has more money than Bob Dylan....make sense? Not to me, bit it's so.
Jody I agree that sports SHOULD be entertainment, but it's sooooooo NOT entertainment.
It's either " my team and my city winning this game is the single most important thing to happen to me". It's about geographical bragging rights, it's abiut men living out their man crushes, and getting their macho out with a healthy does of testosterone and adrenaline.
It's water cooler talk, it's news topping, and it comes up in most conversations at some point. I do have a few friends who have no interest.
But yiu want to know what the REAL draw of sports is? Gambling. Be it fantasy sports, office pools, knee cap breakers, etc, I laugh when the nfl says that they don't like it, do they really think that anybody with no skin in the game is watching that crap 49er Browns game in a Minday Night, they are Bsin everybody.
Fantasy sports and gambling keeps the nfl especially on top I. Ratings, not people looking for entertainment
College sports is far superior to pro, that's the real sport, the ncaa college tourney kicks the nba arse.
But college sports is a massive business, mits just that the players don't get any of it.
Definitely too many bowl games, and who cares? why yes, , the gambler loves every bowl game they have, not many people beyond those who go to that school care.

Thank goodness we live in a country where each of us can develop and express our own opinions. For instance, here's mine... if an individual does nor love his or her country enough to stand and be respectful when the National Anthem is played... that individual does not deserve to enjoy the freedom paid for by the soldiers of the Revolution, the War of 1812, The Mexican War, The Civil War (which eventually brought about freedom for slaves), WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the rest of those wars where our servicemen fought and died for their country.
Those NFL Players and anyone else who does not respect Flag and Country should find safe harbor in another land 'cause they sure as hell don't deserve the right to be here... and I hope Mr. Goodell will load up his jet and join them. There was a time when Football players represented the best our society has to offer. The game was played for sport and taunting or ball-spiking (other demonstrations of disrespect for the other team) were not allowed. Now most games are a three ring circus of bad behavior.
If they played football in North Korea... can you imagine what "Mr. Bad Haircut" would do to those who refused to stand for their anthem? LOL!
Just my opinion... ----Dave

Those NFL Players and anyone else who does not respect Flag and Country should find safe harbor in another land 'cause they sure as hell don't deserve the right to be here.... Dave, the Supreme Court has specifically ruled on this concept. I've also read news articles and opinions by vets and from vets. The law states you cannot be forced to stand for the national anthem. Also, kneeling during the national anthem is considered an act of respect for fallen veterans, according to veterans. I am not a vet, so I don't know - but I do believe what vets say about taking a knee. If you have not read about how all this started in the first place, be aware that it was at the suggestion of a veteran that Colin take a knee - he didn't do it willy nilly on whim. It is your opinion people should stand. There are those who fought for our freedoms, and the law, that state we are free to do what we please during the anthem - we are not required by vets or law to stand. This whole thing about standing for the anthem has been blown way out of proportion. Politicians are making it about respect for the flag, the people actually kneeling are asking for equal treatment under the law in a respectful manner, for those that don't have a voice. Personally, I'd side with the people who are respectfully asking for equal consideration as a right under the law. I understand we are a free country and while I've never personally taken a knee during an anthem, I'm not going to begrudge someone else from doing it - again, the law allows for this and I'm ok with that. BTW - they are Americans, born and raised here, they "sure as hell do deserve the right to be here..." Every bit as much as you and I Dave.

Hi Jody:
My opinion of the Supreme Court is not printable... let's just say I don't hold them in high esteem. If you had been around during WWII you would probably have a different perspective but as you said, it is your right to defend people who believe they need equal treatment... even though they make more money than you or I will ever see in our lifetime(s). Let's see, Mr. Lincoln fought a war to essentially free them, an emancipation proclamation was eventually enacted, Dr. King's efforts leveled the playing field and folks are free to become useful citizens just like the rest of us. The NFL has become a corrupt organization in my opinion and I still invite Mr. Goodell and all his kneeling minions to get on the first boat to Cuba, North Korea or somewhere other than this "oppressive" country. Gotta go now. Have a great evening. ----Dave

Dave, I know this response won't mean an ounce of anything to you, but...
Wealth is not a measure of whether an American can protest an injustice for other Americans or not.
Also, by the tone of your response it sounds like you believe NFL players are protesting for their own selves and situation. Which, by the way, is not why players have been taking a knee
p.s. I do my protesting in other ways, like writing a song or actually visiting with elected officials.

Morning, Jody:
Those NFL "Players" appear to be protesting because it brings them attention. I have not heard a viable description of the "cause" for which they protest... but suspect it lays claim to the false narrative about our first line of defense, the Police. After that, it may be the Antifa Agenda which is even more fascist than real fascism such as we saw in Pre-WWII in Germany and Italy.
These loons (Antifa) declare war on free speech (such as that on the Berkley Campus) or on Confederate Monuments or the founders of this country who may have been slave owners during a time when that was the norm. (Wrong but a normal practice during that long past era.) Worst of all, you guessed it... most of them are liberals of one stripe or another and "self-control" or civility is not in their dictionary.
Like you, I do my protesting by voting, contacting my elected officials and raising alarm when I observe something going on that does not represent what this nation is supposed to stand for. If someone had taken the risk of "calling out" Adolf Hilter before his campaign against the Jews, maybe WWII would not have happened.
If the NFL players want to "take a knee" I would suggest they find a nearby church, synagogue or mosque instead of being disrespectful at a sporting event. It is a slap in the face to everyone who loves or has served this country in it's past wars or historical events. I doubt if Dr. King would have approved this ill conceived method of gaining attention. Wouldn't it be more effective if these overpaid players create a fund for their cause and contribute a significant portion of their contractual salaries to it?
Before I forget... Merry Christmas, Jody. Let us hope that 2018 will be a better year for all of us.
----Dave

Aw, Humm, etc., Sometimes we do get irritated when the Constitution is violated. And it has many times by people that should have known better. Humm, well I will leave politics out of this. In the past I have recommended some of those "Sea Lawyers" go listen to that song PHILADELPHIA LAWYER by Maddox Brothers and Rose. Sometimes it is hard to tell but I think the Bottom Feeders ans Swamp Dwellers are seeing the water recede. Write a Hit!

@Jody, sure to some gambling is entertainment, bingo, run by the church mind you slots, nickel poker games, is all entertainment. When the stakes get higher it's not entertainment any more. Some people make careers out of gambling, and treat it like the stock market that goes up and down in time periods. Others are addicts and have worse addictions than to heroin, and don't even care if they win or lose, they just have to be gambling. Most people fall between the bingo and the addictions During the super owl, nearly everybody in America has some form of bet going on. Even my dad who would rather have watched cspan than the super bowl when he was around, would get boxes at work and then ask me what the hell it meant. Suddenly it made him watch the game even if he didn't understand it, did he care who won? No But winning and losing is a huge part of sports, it's not so much the action on the field, it's winning or not. I know people who didn't come out of their houses for weeks after their team lost, or take calls or emails or anything, that's how badly they want to win And if i go to Philly and cheer for New York, or go to Boston and cheer for New York, I may not make it home alive, many people have been killed over this, Philly is notorious for beating down fans of other varieties. That makes me think it's not entertainment any more. And even in football, where do you think the word Blitz comes from? It's a war term , and the game is a war mentality, beat your opponent in the ground until their will is shot, get to the quarterback and take his head off, and if you get a shot on him, make it count. I've seen bar room fights over games on tv many times, it's crazy but it happens Even yesterday look at this ugly incident, https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...o-jump-in-stands-and-fight-jaguars-fans/

As far as kneeling, I dint agree with it, there is a time and a place to demonstrate, and a football game is not the place, football is an escape for many, not a political arena..
Having said that, they do have the right to do it and it's not American to say they don't, we don't have to like it, but they do have the right, and did nothing wrong.
I understand both sides in part, I do believe that the athletes are not trying to say they don't love America, they are trying to defend people they believe are being mistreated and injustice, whether their beliefs are true is another story.
And I also understand the people who think it's disrespectful. Especially people who have family in the military and these are people who voluntarily go to the military to defend our country, and the flag means the world to them. It must feel like a slap in the face when their efforts seem wasted.
Why not just go Twitter and offer your disgust with the system, why before a football game? That part I don't get .... But....

Why not just go Twitter and offer your disgust with the system, why before a football game? That part I don't get .... But.... Because most people don't make any change in thinking based on social media words. However, studies have shown that as soon as you use video and/or voice, it becomes more likely to garner a response. And look what taking a knee has done, its caused a fervent uproar, unfortunately not about police brutality, but mostly about respecting the flag and the anthem. See even if I showcase the person behind the initial movement: A VETERAN (his name is Nate Boyer & he was part of the Green Beret) was giving the kneeling instead of sitting advice to Colin - that FACT gets ignored. As does the law surrounding what is required by Americans during the anthem. Everyone making it about respecting the flag and the anthem is ignoring the reason it all started in the first place. Then people will divert the attention and say its some anti fascist group creating the problem or some other conspiracy theory, instead of the fact that it is about police brutality. Most people will make up their minds about an action before ever looking for the facts or asking the source. Its evident even here in this thread. I get it that few, if any people here, ever change their mind based on conversation here. Hell I get railed on here with some saying I provide misinformation when giving advice on the current state of the music industry [what misinformation I've given still hasn't been outed yet btw, so its anyone's guess]. As for gambling - it matters not what the amount is, whether its $0.01 or $1,000,000, its still entertainment. Some get a real adrenaline rush out of it. Some people treat entertainment like a job. Some people treat entertainment like a religion or politics, its still entertainment. How it affects an individual is entirely up to them. Same can be said for people writing music, for the masses its mainly entertainment. For some its a job. For others its their religion or their politics. Its still music and its rooted in entertainment. No matter how popular an artist gets. ** This link shows a good example of what got Colin started with the kneeling ** https://www.facebook.com/mo.anderson.902/videos/1593360130757723/

Well, if social media doesn't get their message across, that doesn't mean that a football game is the right place to do it.
I don't dbeny them the right to do it, I just don't agree with the time and place
Gambling, I have never, not once, seen somebody want to take their own life when losing nickels, dimes, dollars or even hundreds, but I have unfortunately, seem them want to do it when losing thousands and more. So it absolutely matters how much is being risked
Even millionaires don't like losing thousands, but they don't care about losing nickels any more than anyone else does.
So as the stakes go up, the entertainment drops, and the must win attitude increases.
In other words it's not entertaining losing a lot of money
If you and I were to bet who would be the next person to write in this thread, a quarter would not add a lot of drama to it, but 25 dollars would be enough to make it worth watching.
People don't play lottery for entertainment, they buy it to entertain the thought of being wealthy. But if the tickets cost 100 bucks instead of a dollar,,the vast majority would not be entertaining that thought as often, or at all
Stakes matter

Only to the individual. We'll have to differ on this. My perspective is based on having gambled professionally at casinos. I was hired to play because I'm good at math and because I didn't look like a normal gambler. It was the thrill of it that got me into it, it was the boredom of it that got me out of it. I stand by my statement that its entertainment, people do it for the rush, that the amount is merely a number. Some people will get in over their financial head, but that doesn't change the fact that it was an entertaining adrenaline rush for them. If they lose, its up to the individual to define how they handle it. Some can, many can't. People don't play lottery for entertainment, they buy it to entertain the thought of being wealthy. That statement is baffling. Which is it? Do they play for the entertainment or not? They entertain the thought of being wealthy?!? Of course - that's part of the entertainment of playing the lottery. SMH. Very few people buy just one ticket. Many by in multiples.

And no, Bugsey, you won't be gambling...Cough up the cash and I'll be gone. Midnite

Hey, Jody, just so you know....Fdemetrio is a JPF Troll...Formerly known by several other names....Last month, in a totally different thread, he said that he would contribute $1,000 to the JPF Telethon Thread if I would be banned for a year....JPF could use the money!!!...I wouldn't mind taking a sabbatical!!!...I'm still waiting for Fd's check to come in! And no, Bugsey, you won't be gambling...Cough up the cash and I'll be gone. Midnite You know what I like about Midnite Bob? *Crickets* Good thing you told Jody cause he might not have figured it out by himself. Nah you blew your chance, now the ante has been raised to two years, with a post above stating that you were banned because you dont write songs, and are not a musician, and that you badger and bother people who do. Non-negotiable
