Hi Gang:
I've used AOL Mail for years. I began by paying for the service, then switched to "free" when they started offering it to others free without notifying me. I continued to use the free version when I moved to Texas without any problems. After being here for ten years, suddenly AOL began sending me snarky notifications and I began receiving unsent "Mailer Daemon" notifications... like 20 or 30 at a time. It appears they have been acquired by an organization called "OATH."
In no time at all, AOL began requiring me to sign in every time I got on line to send or receive an E-mail. I had not experienced this problem beforehand. So I wonder, is Oath a US based organization? Looks like they also control Yahoo. Are they trying to drive away the "free" account users? I wonder if this acquisition or association is legal activity under U.S. Law? Now I can't access my e-mail at all. They have a "catch 22" process needing alternate e-mail addresses or names and security questions established in the join-up process 20 years ago. (I forgot mine before the ink was dry.) They also want me to change my password without explaining why.
When seeking help via telephone, I was connected to somebody in Romania and received no help at all.
I'd be interested in knowing if any of you have encountered similar problems with AOL?
Thanks, ----Dave

Dave,
Sorry to hear all that... I paid for a long time but stopped just recently. Not sure if it's working or not since email has become nearly useless these days. I'll check to see if I can get in. Are you going in via their software or is it via a browser? I not, try a browser to see if the trouble is still there.
Brian
PS Such a shame to see a dominant American company piss away everything.....

Hi Brian:
As the official "Dinosaur" at JPF... I don't carry a Cell Phone or Smart Phone with me unless I am on the road or "on call" to receive instructions from "the Boss" if I am away from home. LOL! My primary means of communicating (instead of using snail-mail) is via e-mail. Not long ago, Microsoft saw fit to load Windows 10 onto my wife's laptop which came with Window 7. They did not ask permission... it just showed up BAM! You guessed it, I enter the internet through a browser, Microsoft Excel and then attempt to access AOL. I'll try making AOL my home page and see if that helps... even though I hate their fake-news and biased reporting that first appears on their home page. (Microsoft's browser is no better.)
My concern is that I have a demo project going on right now with Mike Zaneski and now I can't even access the new AOL account I set up as an emergency measure. (Thank goodness for JPF Personal Messaging.)
I agree with you... AOL seems to be sinking into the woodwork. Shame.
Thanks for your interest. I look forward to hearing if you discover a similar problem or maybe a solution.
Regards and Merry Christmas, ----Dave

Wondering why you don't use a specific email app over a web browser?
I only ask as I'm not fond of any web browser for email.

Great point, Jody:
I'll be trying several alternatives until I get this problem solved... or return to the days of yesteryear... resorting to snail mail... or Alexander Graham Bell... LOL!
Best, ----Dave

Verizon has acquired AOL and Yahoo... and has put them under the umbrella of an organization of sorts called OATH. Dealing with them is difficult if not impossible. I wonder what Verizon was thinking? Obviously not concerned about the general public and users of AOL.
