I was listening to Simon & Garfunkle sing The Sounds of Silence in Central Park with just Paul on guitar. I listened to that amazing simple intro on the guitar and marveled at how fantastic they sounded with no band. Of course it is one of the all time great songs and title but it made me realize that a great song only needs a guitar or a piano to back it up. This song made me cry at how wonderful and meaningful a great song can be. If we have a Great Song no band is needed. Take a listen to this and just be in wonder.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--DbgPXwLlM

Hi Barry:
Paul Simon wrote an epic song. Gee, what I'd give be on the receiving end of the income "Sound of Silence" produced... and still produces. It sounds wonderful no matter the backing... but you are right, a band is not required.
Have a great weekend and Thanksgiving. ----Dave

One of the top songwriters ever. Forget the money. 400 years from now this song will still be heard. How many songwriters can that be said of?
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Well, The song basically takes you back to a time when things were a lot simpler. Perhaps an even earlier song that is somewhat more conventional is MOMENTS TO REMEMBER by the Four Lads.

Barry,
No question this song in the top ten IMO from the pop modern era of music. It feels/sounds perfect. I heard a young girl sing this song recently on Youtube named Jayden Rylee, don't have the link, (look it up on Youtube with her name if anyone's interested) but it was certainly an "interesting" cover of Sounds of Silence.
Hey Ray, I was thinking about what you said about "simpler times," and I suppose in some aspects that is true, but I think those times weren't that much simpler from the world's stress factors & corruption, we were just younger and that may be why now looking back it seemed simpler, especially from a more mature and romantic perspective.......
Happy Thanksgiving all!

I'd like to cover that song as I have many but can't post songs anymore because my computer is broken in that area so I'm retired as far as writing new songs. I have over 400 songs alone on my Barry Butler youtube page and to tell you the truth I've written enough songs for one lifetime.....I love America and The Boxer also...
