I know that I haven't contributed to the forum at all recently, so I won't be shocked if the thread falls to the bottom quickly. That said, I just finished and released this song and want to share it. I hope you do listen. And if you do, I'm curious to know your thoughts. Thanks! https://hoponpop.bandcamp.com/track/this-aint-no-race

I really enjoyed this a lot. I particularly liked the mixing and mastering, which I think was very craftsman like. Please don't take this the wrong way but it had certain subtle lo-fi quality to it that made it very much in vogue and very easy to listen to. I don't know if that was your intention but a lot of people are backing off the super over the top $5,000 demo sound because it can be kind of annoying and not sound natural. It kind of gets in the way. This was almost a perfect balance--to me--of engineered enough but not too much if that makes sense. Lo-fi is really making a comeback. On some "write for spec" groups I belong to they actually ask you to make it sound as bad as you can so I am glad I have Izotope Vinyl and can muddy it up and put in the scratches. I found that it takes a lot more time and effort to make something sound like Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground than it does to make something sound like Five for Fighting or One Republic. Ok, anyway, I like this!!!

Well, I'm a big Guided By Voices fan, so I am not the least bit offended. Thanks so much for listening to it and for all your kind words! And the track has not yet been mastered, actually. Just have a really good engineer who knows how to mix, and we took our time with it. Thanks again!

This sounds familiar...did you post it before? I don't remember what it sounded like before and can't tell if you've done anything different to it but I know I still like it...a real chair dancer! Ricki

I may have posted the original bedroom demo before, but never the completed version. This was JUST finished. And thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad that you like it.
