Here is take #2 of my new song.

I raised the pitch up 1 whole step, fixed a few errors and brought the vocal up.

I moved take #1 to the bottom of the post, in case you still want to hear it.
Thanks to everyone who helped me, with all of the good feedback.

Pennies from heaven - by Paul Churchfield

Intro –

(Verse 1)

So many problems, I don't know what to do

What I wouldn't give for just one minute with you

I'm not good at asking for help, I know that you know

I figure it out for myself, it's just how I roll

(Chorus)

I got the penny today that you sent me

It's here in a jar, with all the rest

Of the pennies from heaven that you send me

When I'm feeling down

A penny to let me know your around

(Verse 2)

I am my music and through music I speak

A song can restore my soul when I'm feeling weak

That's what you gave to me, when I was a child

I carry it with me now, through all of my trials

- repeat chorus -

- repeat chorus , rit*

Hi Paul:

This is very nicely written - short and simple verses that get the point across instantly.

I like the chorus too - some mystery there.

Melody works well with the lyric - maybe bring up the vocal in the mix a touch.....

I had a similar one once - only it was a four leaf clover. Yours is much better smile

Scott

Thank you Scott. I appreciate you taking the time to listen and give feedback. I did this in one sitting with no edits, so I'm not surprised about the mix. I usually start my tunes out with piano, cuz its easier to keep quiet, without waking my family, as I work in the wee hours of morning. I will probably try a guitar arrangement and take more time on the production. Thanks again, Paul

There's a gentleness and honesty to this that is really appealing. If you can, try to remove the plosives on your microphone recording by using a screen or filter - just because it distracts from your beautiful song.

Hello Paul,

Always nice to see you, and with such a cool tune too.
I agree with Scott, let us hear your soothing voice a little bit more.
Thanks for sharing what you do.

Hello Paul, Don't believe we've met so to speak. I like the gentle feel of this. The vocals are clear and easy to hear and the story is good. My only "NIT" and it isn't a biggie is that I heard the chorus coming in louder in my head. As is I wonder that since it is very much like your verses, musically, it might be lost. IMO.

Douglas, Thanks for the feedback. I will keep your comment on dynamics in mind. The production is a whole 'nother challenge for me to tackle. This take was just the idea catcher.

Hi Paul,

Beautiful simple melody, and the piano is perfect for this song. You have some good sugs above for sure. I had a small sug and NOT a nit, should you take it back into production. On your 2nd vs ending, sing up on -- "through all of my trials)" with your vocal that 2nd time around which will give you more of a crescendo and "build" launching the following chorus this time around. A small thing but would enhance the emotion IMO.

Lovely song, enjoyed it!

Thank you Nelson. I played it through many times before recording it. I even tried multi-tracking it. But something got lost. For brand new songs, I always find that one take captures the idea best. I will produce it soon. But for now I need to let it marinade in my brain, so I can hear what's missing and what is working.
