Okie-dokie artichokees, here we go! 2017's version of the "Little Yellow Button" campaign. This will run for a month. Hopefully we can have some fun, appreciate the "community" that is JPFolks, and maybe raise some funds to help keep the JPF Forums functional.
For anyone who needs reminding. If you look to the right you'll see the little yellow button that says "Donate". The button is free to click on. What you do once you click is entirely up to you:-)
Last year at this time, the board had been sorta broken and desperately needed some upgrades. It was so bad, that new members hadn't been able to sign-up for nearly 2 years...Sad, eh? But we raised enough to encourage Brian to start the upgrade. In reality, we raised a little less than $1,000, and Brian raided his family's vacation fund to the tune of $2500, give or take, to complete the upgrade.
So, it's time to give back a bit, don't'cha think?
Last year, several Folks volunteered their creative services for specific donations. Not sure if anyone has the time to offer those services this year, and I decided not to try to rope them in...On the other hand, I'm not gonna rope them out either:-)
The thing is, is that these Forums have been our hitching post for a while now. Our community. So let's be thankful and remind ourselves that good things should never be taken for granted!
'Nough for now....
Stay tuned....
Midnite

God Bless Roy and Helen Hi Roy...God Bless you and our Helen! I don't know if I put on my thinking cap or my dunce cap, it is so hard to tell them apart:-) But here is what came up from both caps..... Every "telethon" needs a theme to keep JPFolks tuning in. So this year's Theme is: .....Wait for it....Wait for it...Here it comes:-).... What song/band have you become aware of on this Forum that you may not have heard of otherwise? Some are JPF Members, some are not.... This one came in today, thanks to JPF'ers Everett & Jody..The Tragically Hip..."Wheat Kings": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JjX-F7AFso

Thanks to all of you participating. I am wondering if someone would be willing to helm a larger effort to get non board users involved in some way, such as offering services for donations, or even donating old gear etc. Also, how many of you use Amazon to buy stuff regularly? If we had a special link to use where anything you bought from amazon would give us a tiny donation (at no additional cost to you) would you be willing to use it? In either case I would need help overseeing it.
Also, I am considering adding a YouTube channel where I post video's talking about a variety of issues each day on video. Since I can't travel like I used to, this would at least allow me to be seen by all of you who wanted to, and to also engage me in discussions on Youtube or linked back here. I'd also be able to take topic requests and may include music segments, and other promotional tidbits for members who supported the channel perhaps on Patreon or paypal. Any interest?

Thanks to the 3 newest donations, we finally passed the 10K donations total since we started keeping track in 2008. Thanks to everyone who has helped out! If we could raise about 3K via a wider number of participants perhaps from this year's awards nominees or just general members who aren't registered here or who only follow us on Facebook etc. then we'd be even on the board costs through the end of this year. (I spend about $3K a year just to keep it running beyond the the upgrades we did and need to pay someone to do some updates again once the awards are finished).

Yay for $10,000! Progress:-) Speaking of the JPF Awards, here's one written by our one and only Joe Wrabek. It isn't one of his songs that was nominated in this year's awards, and someone else is performing it, but it always brings me a smile. "Can I Have Your Car When The Rapture Comes?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI-qGYjxKpoHow many long-standing friendships, co-labs and music have been made over the years that would have been way harder to accomplish without these Forums? Hey, All, I'm gonna be busy for the next two days, So I will leave you with two links from Jake! The first link is one that Brian posted here on the Forums around 2,008 from a ukelele player, Jake Shimabukuro: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puSkP3uym5kThe 2nd link is from a few years later, where Jake does "Bohemian Rhapsody" If not for these Forums, I woulda been clueless of what could be done with a simple ukelele! Thanks, Brian... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB3RbO7updcMidnite

Hey, Colin:-) If not for JPF, I would have never seen the photographs you've taken! But even more special, at least for me, was how you made Rosewood Creek's music, & the "poll" something that everyone looked forward to voting on every morniing before we even had our first cup of coffee...It was one of the most KEWL songs I've ever heard!! Here is a link, not to the song, but to Rosewood Creek....Thanks, Colin & JPF! https://rosewoodcreekband.com/Midnite

Hi Midnite, It looks like you are well within yourself as telethon guru, this year! I just wanted to say "thanks" to you and Brian, here, in public, cuz a little public embarrasment is always fun when it's done with one's heart in the right place. Just so you guys know.. If JPF had never existed, a majority of the people I call friends? I'd never have met them. Life would suck big time. I'd be writing songs that no one heard, and producing songs just in my head. If JPF wasn't around tomorrow? I'd still have those friends, but gone would be the place where we could all virtually "hang out" and discover music and other great stuff together and conceive of projects and collabs and then make them happen.. What I mean is..aside from the friends I've made here (and I know most other JPFers have as well) --this place is the best damn all-around songwriting and music producing club and class that exists on the Internet..and it's cuz the folks associated with it are the best.. The folks that people JPF make it what it is and us folks are "plain" only in the sense that we're mostly down-to-earth people. Otherwise, we're a pretty colorful bunch. Sometimes it's easy to take for granted something that's "always there" --but this is the time of the year for me try to imagine a life without JPF--just long enough to realize that I can do something about that--to help us get to a place where that won't happen. And even if there's no danger of this place disappearing tomorrow, Brian still needs a little help keeping JPF "well-oiled." Sometimes I forget that although JPF can be a magical place, it needs more than magic to pay for its operational costs and improvements. So "thanks" Brian for keeping JPF alive; I've found the little yellow button and encourage my friends and all JPFers to do so as well, even if it's just for a few bucks. Thanks again, Mike

Hey guys, sorry, I had made a long post yesterday but notice it didn't stick somehow. Thanks to Bob for his leadership and support on this and to those folks who have already pitched in to support the site. Most if not all are perennial supporters and I really appreciate your help in keeping things going year after year. You guys are the best!

Sorry Folks, I got distracted for a few wonderful days of getting together with friends I haven't seen since 2,009. Speaking of friends, and getting back to this year's Telethon Theme of "Songs you would NOT have known about if not for these Forums"... I ventured into the MP3 Forum just now, trying to track down a song that I want to post on this thread on November 11th, Veteran's Day here in the U.S....It's a song about Pearl Harbor. I can't remember the title, but I knew who the writer was. Mr Scott Campbell. So, I ventured to the MP3 Forum, and guess who showed up there burning up the thread with a new song???? You'll hafta track down the thread for yerselves, but I will post the link to his song here. Write & sing on, Scott!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr_Qe86GxJs&feature=youtu.be

Here's someone I know because of JPF: Hi Folks, Over the many years of JPF (32 and counting) we've come across or met such an amazing array of talented people that I couldn't possibly bring even a tiny fraction of them to your attention. That's why we do the music awards but we know so many other types of talented individuals that I can only point out now and then such as today. Colette Dedyn is one such artist who first brought her art to me in the form of amazing Sand Art performances, something I had never seen before Colette shared her work with me. She has a channel on YouTube (just search her name for easiest access to it then click her channel). You'll see a plethora of videos, but I want to call one to your attention here, then check out more on your own. This one is synched up to an orchestra in front of a live audience and tells a harrowing story... watch and be moved by an art for many of you may not have seen before. And you can follow Colette on Facebook, YouTube and her website. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji-cSTbcNhkI'd love to hear your thoughts. I am so privileged to know so many talented people around the world. (Belgium in this case). Enjoy!

Dammit! It's November 11th, "Veteran's Day" here, and I'm still trying to track down a link to Scott's song "Arizona", and am failing miserably#$&^#*$%(!!!! Maybe someone else can succeed where I so gloriously failed????:-) On the other hand, my search DID lead me to a thread from 2010 re: our Scott: http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/818138/re-your-favorite-scott-campbell-song.html"Opening Day" is a prime example of how this Forum has brought us all together over the years to create friendships & co-labs: "Opening Day" anyone?...:-) Midnite P.S. Scott? If someone tracks down "Arizona" for me, then I promise to not keep dropping yer name in on this thread:-)

While we hope for some more financial donations (it's been quiet) I would like to request from those who haven't got the money or interest in donating to instead simply bring some new people to join us here. You all must know at least 1 musician/songwriter who isn't here, or even an older member who isn't here now but could come back. How about we all work together to get 36 new members to pass 21K on the boards? (If only we could get a tiny fraction of the daily visitors to sign up, but I've never been able to figure that out. We have 30-50K unique visitors here on any given day). Just a thought. We used to do member drives back in the day and it worked, we'd gain thousands of new members each time we did it. .

Did all you JPFer's really think that the "Telethon II" would only last for a month?? Silly, silly you'ses!!!! Don't believe everything you read on-line!!!!...:-))))) The once per year Telethons are always a work in progress, winging it as we go as we try to keep the Board/Forums functional....
With that thought in mind, because I'm a perpetual dreamer, here's a quote from Brian:
Updated through 10-01-17
"We're only $60 away from hitting 10K for all time (since we started tracking) donations. It's been pretty thin this year, so if you can spare a few bucks we'd appreciate it. Also We're 1 new donor from hitting 150. Who wants to help us pass the number? (or better, how about we move up towards 11K by the end of the year?) We've spent about $3500 dollars on the boards this year, so anything we can recoup would really help out.
Thanks to all who support the boards, Brian"
From me, Midnite:
Thank you, to All who have helped out over the years!!! Please help spread the word that I, Midnite, got his first Social Security check last week...The first thing I did, was take my wife out to her favorite dining establishment:-) The second thing I did, was pay off some credit cards:-)...The third thing I did, was to continue working as a private contractor....
The fourth thing I did, was set aside a bit of $$$ for the Telethon, but it's gonna hafta be earned....Please help to spread the word...According to Brian:
"We're only $60 away from hitting 10K for all time (since we started tracking) donations."....Easy-Peasey-Puddin'-Pie!!!
"We're 1 new donor from hitting 150. Who wants to help us pass the number?"
If ya'll check out the "JPF Honor Roll", you will find David Lekich as the last little Yellow Button finder....Thank you, David!!!
That being said, here is the mission to the JPFer's who traverse through more Forums than I do...Please help spread the news...
Between now, and December 31st, I will toss in $20 for every new member who tosses in anything via the Little Yellow Button...But my limit is 10 new members, otherwise, I'll have some serious "S'Plainin'" to do to my Spousal Unit:-)
I hope I'm not being obtuse:-)

Hi Midnite, thought that I would get the ball rolling this year on my part...
Last year I had a press release written by Colin Ward and donated some funds on his behalf.
This year, I have just finished making a production product of a device that I have invented to be added to Helen's wheelchair to make both our lives easier. I have been working on it, from idea to prototype to actual product for approx 6 months now.
Over the next 2 to 3 weeks, I will be doing 3 short videos on the product.
The first video will be an introduction to the invention, explaining why it was invented by myself. It will be a 45 to 60 sec Introduction. (The voice-over for this video will be approx 300 to 350 words)
The 2nd video will be explaining what it is, how it is made, and how the various parts work.
This will be a 3 to 4 minutes (give or take) video. (The voice-over for this video will be approx 500 to 600 words)
The 3rd video will be showing the product in use with Helen as the guinea pig. This will be a 2 to 3 minute (give or take) video. (This video may or may not have a voice-over, but if it does, it will probably be 200 to 300 words.)
So what I will be looking for is a speaking voice-over for each video. Maybe the same voice or three different voices.
At the time, I will at the time be able to give a link to the video and written script with indications in the video of where the voice segments will be.
If anyone is interested in doing this, please let me know.
I think a good way for me to hear your talking voice and make my choice is for anyone who is interested, to make a 30 sec talking recording about their favorite subject, and post it here, or send me a pm.
Could be about a guitar, a car or yourself, if you happen to be your favorite subject.
I will add backing music myself, but feel free to use some background music for your example.
If I don't select you, please don't take it personally, there can only be 2.
Now the important bit.
I will donate $40 to the telethon once the first (Introduction video) is finished with completed voice-over, in the name of the person whose voice I select, $50 for the completed 2nd video if a voice-over is used in the name of the person whose voice I select, and $30 for the 3rd voice-over if needed.
If the same persons voice is used then I will donate the relevant amount in their name.
Also once the voice-over is added to the video/s, I must have all rights for usage of the finished video/s to promote the product.
Any questions please ask and I will try to assist.
As time will be of the essence, should a suitable talking voice not be usable or used from JPF, then all bets are off, however I will make a donation myself in that event of $50 to the telethon just for effort.
God Bless Roy and Helen.

By the way, I updated the donor list. Sadly it didn't change since mid October but I appreciate your effort!

Personally speaking, Brian, and I know that there's no way to do this, but I would let the whole Board go "dark" for a few days with nothing but a Little Yellow Button notice and a request for assistance on the Telethon II thread....
But that's just me, being a tad pissed-off...:-)
Insert Rod Serling's "Twilight Zone" voice here:
"Imagine waking up one day, after knowing that the JPF Forums needed a little "Yellow Button" help. You might think it was a bad dream, because you could still "log-on" the next day. And you could still log-on the next day. So, you thought to yourself: We don't need no stinking Yellow Buttons(badges)...And then the third day came, and there was no JPF to log onto. Nothing but darkness on JPF. How many days without being able to express yourself on JPF could you last?"".. End Rod Serling voice...
Insert my imaginings here:
Day 1: Must be something wrong with my internet.
Day 2: Must be something wrong with the JPFolks Forums.
Day 3: A message pops up from some dude who's known as Midnite:
Never take anything, or anyone, for granted...

Midnite,
I keep trying to click the little yellow button, but my mouse won't let me..........like two magnets repelling one another!.........Okay, I'll quit stalling..............I'm in for my standard $50 bucks a year--not a lot, but I sure get more than $50 bucks worth of enjoyment! Come on gang send 20, 50, 100, even more if you can afford....but at least 20 bucks for Pete's Sake!
Here goes...........ouch.......!! You know that little pain you feel in your gut? ---------- Seriously, Thanks Brian for this great website!

And to all of those who continue to contribute, year after year after year....And to the newcomers who are contributing for maybe the first time...

Keep going Midnite.
As far as my offer on the voice-over stuff, los of views on the separate post I did, but quite disappointing in many ways. However our very own Ricki offered and did the first voice-over for me, and I will be using it, so once any fine tuneing with her is finished after the video is done, there will be $40 into the kitty in her name.
Gregory Watton offered his help on 23rd November and I sent him a PM, which he replied to, and then he seems to have vanished. I looked at his posts and it would seem that he hasn't been here since then. Maybe I frightened him off.. Seriously though I hope that he is alright.
God Bless Roy and Helen

God Bless Roy and Helen They've got some serious issues in LA right now. Haven't heard from him or Jody, though I will text Jody tonight to check in. It is nasty out there. Heard about one member who lost their house and another who had a harrowing escape story from the walls of flames.
