Barry,
A great solid melody here, one that captures you right from the "get-go." I really like sentimental songs as well, and you've already had me digressing in my own mind about past homes etc. I've actually driven by old homesteads and really wanted to knock on the door and ask them if I could see my old room, but didn't.
I'll share a stupid thing I did last year to my serious dismay. There after many years this past year was a "family reunion" planned in my home town (2 1/2 hour drive from where I presently live) this past "last Sunday of July). I had been anticipating this event for several months and was anxious to see long lost cousins etc. all coming together. I work a very busy schedule and travel in business weekly, and "in my mind" I had the last Sunday of July a week later as to the actual last Sunday. I'm sitting in my living room after having lunch and watching TV about 2:00PM on July 30th. My wife comes into the room, and I said, "next Sunday is the reunion last Sunday in July..............oops!" I was so discouraged! I realized if I jumped into my car by the time I arrived, it would be over. How does one that so looks forward to an advent miss it? Age.....I reckon!
Enjoyed your song, even though it brought up a recent disappointing moment!

Hi Barry:
That Long Island brogue is crystal clear in this wonderful song. An old Squadron-Mate of mine lived out there on Long Island. Tim Costorf! I haven't thought of him in years but he had that same tone in his voice. Great guy. (Like you!)
Like Eddie, I enjoyed the "sentimentality" of this song. I think you covered just about all the bases really well. Thanks for the memories and for sharing. ----Dave

Hey Dave......THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES...LOL I guess going down memory lane once in awhile is OK....As I listen to ME sing this song I can see all the places I talk about and the line about the guy at our Corner Grocery Story named POPS "LET MY MOM SLIDE ON BILLS SHE COULDN'T PAY" brings tears to my eyes... Thanks for the comment and Hope YOU are doing great...I've been struggling with the cancer and neuropathy in my feet but am trying to hang it there. My computer won't allow me to upload cd's to mp3 anymore so I'm retiring from songwriting but will continue to share my songs with whoever wants to listen..I have a Barry Butler youtube page with hundreds of my songs and they will surely outlive me. Maybe a hundred years from now I'll get discovered and God will let me come back here for awhile...lol
