"When I Turn An' Walk Away"
Daubert & Holcombe
https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13632475

Retro Vince Gill style, it seems. Buddy and I wrote this in the style of Vince Gill's "When You Call My Name", (without realizing it). He had his song first, (1989-1990).

Thank you for any comments, or a way to get it to Mr. Gill, so he can review it and see how close it is or not, for him. We have no sales, as this a for free song "now". An earlier female version from a 1999 release via CD Baby, on all the sites which they placed it, had maybe a handful of sales. If he wants that 20 bucks or so, I would be happy to personally bring that CASH to his home studio ASAP!

John

I have more of that softer side of me in a couple of genres. Thank you!

I was inspired to write in this style by Elvis back in '91. And inspired last week to sing it, and playing new music, through hearing Vince Gill from his home studio, in rerun of the 2015 "The Big Interview", hosted by Dan Rather. Vince was so gospel like. I put this song at just two beats above his mega hit, When I Call Your Name, (from 70 to 72bpm), knowing I am not as good as Vince for singing such a SLOW number.

Thank you!

Hi Johnny and Buddy:

Ever curious, I'd love to hear the female vocal version as well. I agree with Eddie, sure has that Vince Gill semi-gospel feel... and for me, that's a really good feeling.
Well done, you two. Solid vocal.

Hey Johnny,

This is killer—it's a tune you want to sing along with from the first verse; great chord changes. Not familiar with V. Gill (generally, that is), but regardless this is pretty darn good no matter whatever. Love the mellow musical interlude. Well done.

Regards,

Deej

Dave, first, thank you! Since I don't have the older female version on my newer Mac, and the old PC is in storage from having so many WINDOWS issues, (ACK)!, I can at this time only refer you to Slacker Radio, where I found the female version, (Ariel Caten, of Faith Hill fame for her songwriting for Faith Hill, kindly sang our song for free in my garage back in 1991, before she headed to Nashville to become a hit songwriter). How lucky were we?!
I raised the pitch a half step after she left, for which she later didn't like or appreciate. We debated over the phone. I was hard headed, (was?), so I kept the higher pitch, which Buddy and I thought to be better overall, (music tone color too, as well as her higher sounding pitch had a Dolly Parton sound. I bet doing that hurt any chances we might have had with her in Nashville, for she sure wouldn't mention us for any good talk after we kept the higher pitch for this song. Oh well, right? George Martin did the same pitch raising for a McCartney and Lennon vocal, so I thought WHY NOT for Ariel's for this song? Seems that Martin had more clout for some reason! hahaha

Anyway, Here is the Slacker Radio link for Ariel's Where Does The Love Go: http://www.slacker.com/album/daubert-holcombe/where-does-the-love-go Sorry for not having an easier way to listen to it. I should work on getting the old PC fixed, so I can transfer it to this Mac. (MY mac rules for all concerns, BTW! Logic Pro X too, which I have been using for two years now with NO issues. NO corrupt files, NO Hangups, NO viruses, etc.

Thank you again, Dave!

Wow, Deej, (name?) To have anyone say it's killer is just about as high a compliment there is! Thank you for that! Glad the melody is worthy of singing along! Since I was hearing my dad play melodies only on his old mandolin, I seems I have focused on the importance of melodies. He played all the old classics, and I would find the chords on accordion as a 7 year old, to then at 11 and on, piano. I track everything in mostly one takes, just getting into the feeling of whatever I am playing. Is why that instrumental may have cone out as it did. My trick of that trade is to imagine I am on stage playing for people. NO second chance. To do it best right then, as if playing out. That technique-trick seems to have me play with more feeling than just trying to get the notes in the right places. Like being in a zone. Saves tracking time! Ha! Not saying everything is a one take. But, that is how I usually get flowing melodies or other parts tracked. I suggest trying that imaginary way, of not already doing that. It is more fun too. As if ON STAGE, even when sitting in a little modest home studio room with open walls! Imagination, like Einstein sure used, proves to be effective in just about anything. I think music offers one of the best ways to use imagination. They work together in a very cool way. FEELS good! Hopefully for the listeners, right?

Thank you again, Deej!
John

Wow, thank you for your little BIG opinion! Much appreciated. I am about to list a Pop-R&B, (AC) tune, which for me, was going out of my comfort zone. The music parts were easy, as they always seem to be for any genre, BUT, vocally, this took some doing just to get it where it is. (called. Don't Be Sorry Now). I would welcome an honest take on it please, for my hopes is to TRY to sell downloads NOT to JPF members, but the general public. Thank you for any suggestions. John (posting that tune in a minute).
