Hi John:
I was shocked at how many of the "top 100" were so forgettable... and yet a few were quite worthy of the "honor" from Billboard. I suspect that 50% of today's audiences... and even worse, today's music executives would not recognize a good song if it struck them in the nostrils. Sad commentary about the state of music... but that's why they make Fords and Chevies, eh? The first link to a YouTube clip would not load. Thanks for sharing. ----Dave

I thought that list was much much better than I feared. It's not a matter of good or bad, that has as much to do with your age as anything. I thought 64 of the songs truly marked their moments in history and was delighted to see the diversity of the list marking the widest range of popular culture of any list I have ever seen. That's not to say I liked all the songs, nor that I disliked some that I didn't include in the 64 that stood out to me. I thought the very bottom and very top of the list was the weakest parts, but as a whole, it was enjoyable and I feel very representative of pop music. We all know that the very best Beatles or even Paul McCartney songs were excluded and the same could be said of many of the artists work, but man, there was something for all ages on that list from 105 to 5. That's a tall order.
Thanks for sharing, I had missed that but glad you brought it to my attention. I suggest anyone who wants to understand what SELLS in music, should pay attention the seeming diversity but realize it is all about the youth at the times those songs were popular. Think ages 10-25.
Brian
PS: I was referring to the Billboard list, not the first link.
