Hi Folks:

Not knowing how much longer I'll be able to participate... I wanted to thank all of you for taking time to hear my songs and put up with my "grouchy old man" attitude. It has been a privilege to be a member of JPF and a recipient of Brian's generosity. Among the notable things I've been able to enjoy here, a fellow named Michael Zaneski "showed up one day" and made a post about being available to do demos. I took his "bait" and was impressed at his ability to interpret a work (words and music) and "make them his own" as he produced and sang about an "album's worth" over a six or seven month period for me.

He is a shy yet generous person and prefers to stay out of the "limelight"... but I believe such talent deserves recognition and reward. To that end, if any of you have not heard it, please navigate to the song (today shown on page 5) called, "I Remember Autumn." At this juncture, it has received more than 9,000 "listens" and it pleases me to no end that you have cared enough to honor him with your ears.

Thanks, Mike for your artistry, humanity and generosity. ...and "Thank You," Brian. JPF is a remarkable community.

----Dave Rice

Dave, you have been very generous with your comments over the years always offering good sound advice and help to a number of my collabs more recently with Vic
Your posting has more ambiguity than a political agenda.
Are you OK health wise or is this a result of that damn hurricane?
Forgive me for being so frank Dave but you know you can share your thoughts with friends ( perhaps this is a Welsh thing!)
Best Regards
John

Hi Travis:

Thought I'd do my best to drum up some business for our pal, Mike Zaneski while I decide on a plan of action about where to put the little "play-lists" of my songs I post every week or so at SYM. They repeatedly are "off the air" and I need a more reliable, free service where there might be a possibility of someone in the music business or it's fringes actually hearing a few of my songs. I've had a "page" at SYM for several years, just like Everett Adams and it gets to be a diminishing investment. I hate to disappoint my fans (all three of them) by taking action and moving my songs but my time and efforts with that site are probably a waste.

Ideally, the site I'm hoping for may actually exist and will allow MP3 format (for the sake of simplicity) and provide a free (no cost involved) page for me to post and frequently "roll-over" my songs. Statistics about where listeners are geographically located and other marketing stats would be helpful. The other option is to simply "pull the plug" and walk away. Most importantly, if a new site can be found... no strings attached to my songs... where I will be free to pull or replace them "at will."

Thanks for your concern. No hurricane involved here in North Central Texas but my health is beginning to be a factor. Numb, tingling fingers and toes can be a real bother and a sciatic nerve that won't heal really cuts down on the quality of life.

Other than that, life is good! Looking forward to your next song-post. ----Dave

Hi Calvin:

You are 100% correct. Mike is "the Bomb!" Thanks for taking time to listen. I noticed that Lane has caused the original song-post Mike did on his web-page to shift from page five back to page one. Now folks won't have to hunt so hard and make so many clicks to hear Zaneski's demo of my song.

All the best, ----Dave

Thanks, Lane:

You are a genius and now Zaneski's Demo of my song appears on page one. Thanks for your kind offer but, unless you are a miracle worker in things "health related"... only time and modern medicine will get me back to making music. I can still write but the recording activity I go through is significantly impacted by arthritic, tingling fingers... and my vocal chords seem to jump right onto the bandwagon from Badsville... LOL!

The "Brian" I was referring to in my original post is Brian Austin Whitney... our founder here at JPF. Sorry if I mis-lead you.

Best regards and "Thanks again!" ----Dave

Aw shucks, Dave. You got me blushing big time, here. smile

I'm glad Travis spoke of the "ambiguity" involved--especially the wording of your marqui, yet it's no relief knowing your extremities are experiencing so much numbness.

Ironically it was numbness that caused me to decide to make demos in the first place. I was busking six days a week and I gave my thumb a permanent nerve injury. I was playing too many bar chords for too many hours in a row..then one day I pushed my left thumb against the back of my guitar's neck to make one more, and it felt like a strong electrical shock eminating out from that thumb. Now it's a crap shoot--either numbness or tingly shock back there. But at the time I realized had to re-think my future.

I fall in love with just about every song I work on. This was true with all of yours, for sure. "I Remember Autumn" was especially dear to me. My close friends know I get a little "seasonally affected " in the Autumn and I experience the world with my defenses pretty much down for as much as a couple weeks before it lifts. But from another POV, it's a gift to be immersed in the emotional content of a song--especially when working on one as gorgeous as "I Remember Autumn."

I love ya, man. Don't go gentle! smile

Mike

Dave,

I've been gone a bit on vacation this last month or so; just got back these last few days and saw this post. I'm a relative newbie on this site, but I simply want to give you a really big THANK YOU. I can't tell you how much I've appreciated your kind, thoughtful and supportive feedback on nearly everything I've posted. I'm a nothing and a nobody, but you give your time, experience and wisdom as if I'm worth hearing . . . and that's simply high class, three times over. And you do it for everyone, all the time. So I'm hoping for a certain and infinite stay, as you are one of many folks, IMHO, that make this board a community.

And, hey, this may come off as a bit selfish, but I need you here: I've got a ton of really, really awful songs that I sing very, very badly, and they don't have a prayer of getting better without your input. Looking forward to your leading me, as always, in a better direction. smile

Hi Mike:

I'm feeling better this morning and there is so much to be said about "being above ground!" LOL! Thanks ever so much for your kind words and sentiments. Our business relationship and friendship is pretty unique to my way of thinking. Always know that "I'd kill for your talent!" From the number of "listens" to "I Remember Autumn" in the last few hours, I'd say that JPF in general agrees with me.

For the record, I'll hang around as long as possible.

Best regards always, ----Dave

Hello again, Deej56:

Your words are way too kind and I'll do my best to be here when you post your next song. Remember to never throw away a song or lyric. I've been told by people with musical skills and records to back them up... there are few songs that could not be written better. If I ever write one that needs no improvement, I'll let you know. LOL!

Regards, ----Dave

Me too Dave, if you take a close look, I was able to sing a little, play enough so a person could listen..those days are pretty much over..mostly I just write now and bother people. the one thought I have is..play or not, sing or not your opinion is valued here. Lane

Hi Travis: (My fellow Welshman)

I nearly fell out of my chair when I read your last post. Sounded very much like something Yogi Berra might have said! LOL!
I'm looking forward to your next song-post. As usual, I'm wondering if Vic will be the vocalist/artist 'cause you two seem to really work well together. I don't think we've ever had the discussion about whether or not you play an instrument or vocalize your creations? If not, it is never to late to begin that journey. It certainly seemed to enhance my song writing after I had to learn to sing and play when my partner returned to his cushy, high-paying day job. (Can't blame him... no money in music and his acting career had already lined his coffers with gold.) At this moment, I'm reading an old article in Texas Monthly Magazine about Jerry Jeff Walker... a Texas song-writing legend and singer. (Did some early stuff with Jimmy Buffett.) I had no idea he now resides in Belize. Music people who have achieved musical monetary success seem to do the oddest things. I doubt that I will ever have that opportunity but one never knows. I doubt if my lifestyle would change much except I do get "the Privacy Thing."

Always appreciate hearing from you.

Later, ----Dave

Don't know what your health issues are exactly Dave, but I'm always pulling for you. Good guys deserve good outcomes.

I gave "Autumn" a bump the other day. I think that you must have the record for views here.
