The genesis and inspiration sprung from the Carey Landry classic “Abba Father”, popular when I was much younger. It's meant to be able to be used for Trinity Sunday services or a Sunday service where Mark 12:30 might be used (“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The chorus reinforces this and I’m praying people will find it memorable and easily recallable during their day.

“Reconcile Me”
(AKA / Abba Father, Son and Holy Spirit)

Verse
Abba Father, Author of my Salvation
Write on my soul, a faith-filled vocation
I shall be your child, & You will be my Maker

Imprint my soul with your loving decree
Passion and hope, all You desire for me
I shall not be afraid, I trust in You my Father

Chorus
Have mercy on my soul
Mold and shape my mind
Refine my heart
Reconcile me to you

Verse
Jesus, My Lord, the Craftsman of my will
Carve in me sainthood before life takes its toll
I shall become contrite, humble in my witness

Frame the path from here to Your kingdom
That I might live in the beauty of your wisdom
Unafraid, I will live fearless

Chorus
Have mercy on my soul
Mold and shape my mind
Refine my heart
Reconcile me to you

Verse
Holy Spirit, Blacksmith of purification
Draw out of my heart, love for Your Great Commission
Form me in the forge of Your perfect righteousness

Stoke the fires my heart must pass through
To quench desires that turn my eyes from you
Holy Fire, burn away my brokenness

Chorus
Have mercy on my soul
Mold and shape my mind
Refine my heart

Chorus
Have mercy on my soul
Mold and shape my mind
Refine my heart
Reconcile me to you

Hi Skip:

I finally had a quiet moment where I could listen... and I was not disappointed. The song is a powerful testament of your faith and contains within it's lyric so many good lines. Today's world is no longer a comfortable place for Christians or people of other faiths... but this certainly instills hope and reinforces my belief. Your vocal was delivered with a great deal of the passion needed for this type of song and I believe the melody is exceptional. Best of luck with whatever you choose to do with the song. I hope it moves someone to believe and helps to restore peace and harmony to our eccentric world. ----Dave

Thank you Dave for your kind and generous review, it means a lot from such a veteran of these boards. As Brian often asks, "does the song move you" and thankfully, it appears to be successful in that regard, it moved you to respond.
Thank you again,
Skip

Hi Skip,

I love this. Production wise it's layered very well, and there's a beautiful lead vocal. The quantized and verb'd out piano sound is a perfect match for the hip-hop drums; I love cross-cultural musical influences in a song these days. It sounds hip without posturing to be so.

The inspiring lyric is the best part of all. It's feels like a prayer yet it's never cloying yet always earnest and it has a yearning in it that makes my heart respond.

Beautiful work. smile

Mike

Skip,

I really, really like the sound of this one--really, everything about it. The melody, structure and production all really well done. A spiritual song, but the melody and harmonies could easily pair with any genre (rock, pop, whatever)--which I think makes what you've done here all the more special. I can't comment on the lyrics themselves and the references therein, but they seem to work very well.

I'll make one quite small suggestion for the vocal--something I might do opportunistically on a couple of the last words of each verse (e.g., Maker, Father, witness, fearless, etc.)--which would be to hold onto the second syllable of that last word (e.g. in the last verse "broken--neeesss"). Not sure how to describe what I'm hearing in words, but offering it up for what it is. But I'm totally nitpicking based on my own personal preference--which is meaningless. It's perfect just as you have it.

BTW, as I'm typing this out, I'm listening to your "Everything I Hoped". Wow, think I've got to listen to some more of your stuff. Really good!

Best regards,

Deej

Michael,
Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I can't take credit for the musical aspects, they came from Jay at Bottlerockit but the lyric comments mean a lot to me. I like especially your comment about feeling a yearning. That is what I had hoped for. I will make sure Jay sees your comments also.

Deej,
Thank you for spending time with my songs. I do understand what you are describing in holding on to the words. I am glad you can see ways to personalize it if you were to sing it because then someone who would like to record it, has room for their own personalization. It makes it more appealing for picking it up.

Peace and blessings to you both,
Skip
