hi my name is Segaralyrics. I am looking for a male singer/songwriter to co-write to rock/pop/country lyrics I have.
I have a publisher pitching my co-writes. any co-write will be a 50/50 writer/publishing split. must be signed to a pro org.for publisher to pitch songs.

If you have a publisher pitching your co-writes to artists, can he/she not suggest co-writers from his catalogue?

One of the problems that lyricists have as opposed to singer songwriter and musicians, are that they NEED musicians more than musicians need lyricists. Pretty much anyone can write songs now, and people who do music, can throw some lyrics on to most of anything and they have a song. Lyricists can't do that. They have to work harder to find people to do something on their lyrics.

It is why they actually have to GO FIND musicians and writers instead of posting something or putting an ad out and expecting people to come to them. Just really doesn't work that way. I'd very much suggest you look in your home area at people performing live, going to Reverb Nation, You Tube, and other places where songwriters post what they do. Find some people YOU LIKE and then attempt to contact them. But you have to do some research on them in order to get them interested in what you are doing.

Very few people are any longer interested in having someone put words in their mouths. It is why for the most part just writing some lyrics down and expecting someone to put music to them, outside of someone who is paid to put melodies to their lyrics for money. And that of course, most often leads to schemes and scams. So MEETING someone face to face, is the simplest method to attract artists to your efforts.
Attending local songwriter meetings, finding out where they congregate, supporting artists shows, will go a long way toward finding what you are looking for.

Welcome to JPF, segarlyrics:

Sorry if your reception here seems cooler than it should be. As a community, we are often "scammed" or hit with schemes
that would part us from our hard-earned cash. Your case seems a little "out of the ordinary" and I thought you deserve a reply from someone who began "the journey" wearing a lyricist's hat.

The big difference between our situations... I had a singer/songwriter friend who invited me to write lyrics for him. We wrote and he recorded nearly 100 songs of our co-writes and suddenly, his old "day job" made him an offer he could not refuse. That left me precisely where you appear to be. It is a sad fact of nature that Lyricists outnumber songwriters who sing at a ratio of at least ten to one, maybe higher.

My suggestions for you: 1. Stick around, participate in the forums that interest you so we get to know more about you and can begin to establish a relationship of trust and mutual respect. 2. Consider learning to sing and play an instrument, guitar, piano or keyboard, so you can begin to understand the primacy of the music over the lyric. (A difficult concept at best.)

In my case, I purchased a used Yamaha Arranger Keyboard which displayed the chords and tempo for me to use for learning and did not require full, piano playing skills or music reading. I cannot claim that any of this effort led to success or fame and certainly no monetary reward. The playing field in which we participate is overcrowded and only a chosen few ever find the "finish line."

My participation and foray at the music world is nearing the end and thus, I am not a candidate for the partnership you seek. I am available for advice on a limited basis. So there you have it, my suggestion and my brief story. With that, I wish you all the best with your music and lyrics.

----Dave

Yes. Posting up some of your lyrics is a good start.

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Hi and welcome
I joined the site perhaps at one of its most productive times.
Lyric forum 3 was awash with some really talented writers including the late and much missed Tampa Stan.
He gave good sound advice for free to budding writers and basically Dave has echoed his words in his posting. like Stan, Dave is a seasoned writer and poster and always offers good advice and constructive critiques.
Post your work.show what you have to offer
In turn help others to hone their work.
You need to constantly post your work.Build up friendships and respect of other members and of course this is a two way street
Then somewhere along the road if you're lucky you'll get offered a collab.
Best of luck
Travis
