I`ve had this here before, I sang this song. I thought it deserved a little more than me so I had my friend Mike Zaneski tear into it...wow! He did such a great job. everything here is Mike`s I wrote the lyric, and gave him a little idea on the melody. Just wanted to thank Him here..Lane No Intro Harp. https://soundcloud.com/user-745253707/heard-of-a-man-no-intro-mp3/s-xR2IWhttps://soundcloud.com/user-745253707/heard-of-a-man/s-w9y9eHeard of a man heard of a man head bent and bleeding heard of a man.. seen all there is ever going to be. heard of a man forgive all others I have heard of a man that could set you free. He said ..I don`t have very much time brothers watch for me. I don`t have very much time my Father is calling me. heard of a man changed up the water heard of a man that could walk on the sea. I have heard of a man says you have to believe. heard of a man..and He has heard of me. He said ..I don`t have very much time brothers watch for me. I do not have much time my Father is calling me. ..I don`t have very much time brothers watch for me. I do not have very much time they are going to crucify me. heard of a man.... © Copyright 2017 Vincent. All Rights Reserved.

This is very well put together with fine lyrics. Mike did a great job too with his vocal. Reminded me of Michael Jackson. My only sugg would be to try the intro without the lead (harp). Imo it would set up the mood better.

Hi Lane:
Welcome home! Its good to see you back and to realize you also know, as far as Zaneski is concerned, all ya gotta do is point the man in the right direction and he will do the rest! LOL! I don't believe there is a genre he can't grab and wring out every single drop of golden music from deep within his talented soul. Gospel just may be his calling... but I would not dare attempt to put him in a box. Loved the words and structure of the lyrics. You hit two "home runs" with this one. First by writing the words and next by sending them to Mike. Wow! What a delivery. Congratulations to both of you. ----Dave

Vic, Travis, Calvin, Neil, Dave, and Deej: Thanks a bunch guys. Lane wrote a killer song and so my work was easy. I had so much fun with his lyric which is spare in approach but says so much; I heard a real biting chorus and felt like this one got near to what I was hearing in my head. Vic, I will send Lane a version in a few days with a simplified intro. Great sug. Thanks again, all. Mike

Hi Lane,
Cool tune and GREAT harp player. I'm actually looking for a harp player for my online recording studio session player roster. Any chance you could ask (is it Mike?) to contact me through my site?
Thanks!

An outstanding write Lane. Love the title... and the way you ended the verses,... wonderful.
"heard of a man... and He has heard of me"... very cool.
Mike too has done an outstanding job here. Giving this gospel treat and rock kick was brilliant. You never cease to amaze. Way to go.

Mike did a nice job on this - religious without being preachy - kinda like "When Love Came to Town" by Clapton and BB King - felt like the harp wasn't in the same groove as the rest of the song- "They're gonna crucify me" - I think John Prine used that line in "Jesus, the Missing Years" --if you haven't heard it check it out - became an instant favorite for me. So really nice job of writing on this and I see Mike is going to tame the harmonica player which will should make it even better - best of luck with an excellent song. --Pete

I remember that song by BB really was a great song..not preachy at all, of course I wouldn`t mind if BB was doing the preaching....lol
Thanks so much for the info and taking time to comment on this Pete, and giving it a listen. I`ve heard both sides of that intro harp, I have the song without the head-in, I`ll post it in case you want to hear it. thanks again Pete. I lean a little more to the harp side... Lane
I think this was John Prine.. thats another guy I think is just great.
Oh my God, what have I gotten myself into? I'm a human corkscrew and all my wine is blood They're gonna kill me Mama. They don't like me Bud. I`ll post all the lyrics.
Lyrics Jesus, the missing years
It was raining. It was cold West Bethlehem was no place for a twelve year old So he packed his bags and he headed out To find out what the world's about He went to France. He went to Spain He found love. He found pain. He found stores so he started to shop But he had no money so he got in trouble with a cop Kids in trouble with the cops From Israel didn't have no home So he cut his hair and moved to Rome It was there he met his Irish bride And they rented a flat on the lower east side of Rome... Italy that is Music publishers, book binders, Bible belters, Money Changers, Spoon Benders and lots of pretty Italian chicks.
Charley bought some popcorn Billy bought a car Someone almost bought the farm But they didn't go that far Things shut down at midnight At least around here they do Cause we all reside down the block Inside at, 23 Skidoo.
Wine was flowing so were beers So Jesus found his missing years So He went to a dance and said "This don't move me" He hiked up his pants and he went to a movie On his thirteenth birthday he saw "Rebel without a Cause" He went straight on home and invented Santa Claus Who gave him a gift and he responded in kind He gave the gift of love and went out of his mind You see him and the wife wasn't getting along So he took out his guitar and he wrote a song Called "The Dove of Love Fell Off the Perch" But he couldn't get divorced in the Catholic Church At least not back then anyhow Jesus was a good guy he didn't need this [naughty word removed] So he took a pill with a bag of peanuts and A Coca-Cola and he swallowed it. He discovered the Beatles And he recorded with the Stones Once He even opened up a three-way package In Southern California for old George Jones
Charley bought some popcorn Billy bought a car Someone almost bought the farm But they didn't go that far Things shut down at midnight At least around here they do Cause we all reside down the block Inside at, 23 Skidoo.
The years went by like sweet little days With babies crying pork chops and beaujolais When he woke up he was seventeen The world was angry. The world was mean. Why the man down the street and the kid on the stoop All agreed that life stank. All the world smelled like poop Baby poop that is ..the worst kind So he grew his hair long and thew away his comb And headed back to Jerusalem to find Mom, Dad and home But when he got there the cupboard was bare Except for an old black man with a fishing rod He said "Whatcha gonna be when you grow up?" Jesus said "God" Oh my God, what have I gotten myself into? I'm a human corkscrew and all my wine is blood They're gonna kill me Mama. They don't like me Bud. So Jesus went to Heaven and he went there awful quick All them people killed him and he wasn't even sick So come and gather around me my contemporary peers And I'll tell you all the story of Jesus, the missing years
Charley bought some popcorn Billy bought a car Someone almost bought the farm But they didn't go that far Things shut down at midnight At least around here they do Cause we all reside down the block Inside at, 23 Skidoo.
We all reside down the block Inside at, 23 Skidoo.

Lane , you're right. the song that had that line in it was the "Ballad of John and Yoko". "The way things are going. they're gonna crucify me" - I had to google it - to get it out of my head . Phil Snow , a great songwriting teacher had this saying " Good songwriters borrow , great songwriters steal. So you have now ascended to greatness. Kidding , of course, We all swim in the same soup. I was playing with a guitar player who was making a A to D chord change and told me he was going to copyright it? The first time I heard " Jesus , the Missing Years", was at a live concert here in Portland a few years back, I just about fell out of my seat in the balcony - the place was sold out of course. By the time he finished Sam Spade -There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes, Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose. Little pitchers have big ears, Don't stop to count the years,…, I had tears in my eyes, and remembered what a truly great artist I was in the presence of. As to the harmonica or lack there of - as Ricky Nelson said "You gotta please yourself". ...Pete

I guess we are the same in a way, things I can`t get out of my head? "thank god for google...lol hell that would make a good song....lol I`ve always said not a person says something new, its all been said..we just rearrange it. 315 million in this country x how many countries? x how many centuries?.. I have a tendency to believe that. So many of us have fell asleep on the page of a book and ..flash. Its a D to a A....lol
Some lyric from John Prine stand all by itself, nothing else needed.. I `ve seen a ton of artists never him, and artists were a little more attainable back in the 60`s and 70`s. when I was running wild, John was a couple of years older than me...I listened to folk music but we all were taken by England, buffy saint marie, joan baez, dylan, donovan all so cool, but Cream, yardbirds, beatles rolling stones...thats who we had turned up so loud we couldn`t hear the lyric....lol
thanks Pete for hanging out with me..Lane

Tammy, Doug, Chris, and Nelson.. Thanks all, Lane's coolness comes through in this lyric so clearly. The way he puts things here is understated yet brilliant, to me. I let that energy guide my vocal and production choices--they all grow from Lane's words and music. Thanks again. Mike
