Just finished this one. Arranged from a Travis lyric. Thanks in advance for any comments. https://soundcloud.com/vic-arnold/the-journeyhttp://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13609843The Journey © 2017 John Vaughan & Vic Arnold V Hitch me a ride on two beers and a carraige of memories back to those days when we hung out, just you and me Our own favourite song kinda tagged on along to it's destiny as I keep holding on to the man I am trying to be V They all call me a singer of sad songs, a blue troubador. But I recognise that look in their eyes through the years I sit on my stool, taking requests ...from the dance floor and smile as they set sail ...on their journey of tears Ch. Inst. And if they have any sense at all they'll get off before journey's end Cause just one more step and it's into free fall and it's hard to come back again Inst. V I wonder if sometimes we make that journey together. Does she walk in my steps ...down familiar paths sharing the dream, the same one I'll dream of forever and wonder for how long ...this journey could last. Ch.

Hi Vic and Travis:
Just listened and was glad I took the time. Mumble? Sez who? LOL! No, Vic... I continue to hear a vocal delivery that reminds me at times of Johnny Cash. Well done guys. Nice write, Travis. Enjoyed. ----Dave

Hey Vic hey Travis..
Very nicely done, both lyrically and musically.
I love 6/8 cuz there's so many things you can do rythmically that sound good.
Vic you're sounding really good on this. A little bit "detatched" which fits a lyric that has the singer musing/wondering about his job as a balladeer.
I stumbled for a second at REquests--that phrasing felt like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole to me, but that's the only thing I noticed that I might even think of changing (to perhaps "I sit on my tool, take reQUESTS..from the dance floor").
The last verse kinda functions like a bridge in that the theme shifts from the singer talking about his troubadouring to wondering about (probably) his significant other which is referred to briefly in V1. It's a nice lyrical wrap-around or bookend to a really well written whistful lyric.
Great work, guys!
Mike

Vic (and Travis) Your songs are always so polished, really well produced, every note and instrument folding into and complementing each other. And I really like your vocals—an earthy, everyday man’s sound that resonates with depth. Mr. Rice comes pretty darn close with the J. Cash call. As for the alleged mumbling, don’t hear it in anything I’ve ever listened to from you. But , hey, “The Mumbling Song” might make for good song title. Best regards, Deej

Vic/Travis,
Great lyrics and story. I liked the music, performance, and production. Chorus lyrics/music do feel "Bridge-like" to me, but that's okay with this arrangement/vibe--all songs don't have to have a big lifting/hook chorus. Vic, nice production arrangement. I never thought about the Johnny Cash comparison--I can hear that too!

Thank you Michael. Yes, I like 6/8 too. Always makes me feel like prancing around.
Not sure about "REquests or reQUESTS", although I take your point. I thought about it and decided that I use both emphasis in conversation. Maybe it's a personal thing or UK/US differential. The jury's still out. :-)
I also thought about the bridge thing while I was arranging it but maybe got a bit lost in the woods and made it a verse. I'll consult with Travis on it.
Thanks for your usual constructive comments.

Hi Deej. Travis is choc full of song ideas. He keeps me on my toes.
Those are very kind comments. I'll think on a mumbling song as you suggest. Maybe: This old man lurched through his day from crisis to crisis, always stumbling. He found it hard to keep his spirits high and stop his whole life from crumbling His romantic episodes were looked upon as ten minutes fumbling as he whispered in her ear, all she could hear was .... mumbling.

It's beautifully written, Travis. Your vocal delivery is perfect, Vic and that Uke or Mandolin was a tasty touch through out.
Nicely done Guys.

I like this one a lot, Travis and Vic. The music and production suit the contemplative lyrics so well. It's a minor thing but you mention "you and me", like you're singing to someone in V1 then change to "she", and sing about someone in V3...it makes me wonder if you're talking about the same person? If so, why change the POV? I still enjoyed my listen. You make a good team.

I didn't notice that. Maybe because I wrote it imagining he was saying it to his self.
Thank you for spotting it.

Hey Travis and Vic,
I always know I'm in for a TREAT when I listen to a collab from you two and this is no exception! It's a lovely, wistful song! Travis always weaves stories about these downtrodden characters who triumph, and Vic adds his own twists and turns to the saga and makes them come delightfully alive! Off I go to listen again!
