An astrology type publication distributed in the local area indicated that tonight is for lovers, artists, dancers and players. In fact I am working on a new lyric with that theme. I thought it would be interesting to challenge those here to recall and name established songs with any or a combination of these four themes. Enjoy!

I didn't realize that when I posted this topic I never did include the actual lyric I eventually came up with. Here it is:

LOVERS, ARTISTS, DANCERS AND PLAYERS
(WHICH ARE YOU)

c2015 Brian Beecher

Tonight is for lovers, artists, dancers and players
I just want to know which are you
A day of fun and games extending into the nighttime
I just want to know which are you

One of the loveliest sights in the night
Will we dance and sway until it all feels right
I just want to know which are you
I just want to know which are you
I just want to know which are you

At the high point of the night will you sing a love song
I just want to know which are you
Will our sensual awareness make us feel there is no wrong
I just want to know which are you

Will we open a window to the divine
And give honor to each other over time
I just want to know which are you
I just want to know which are you
I just want to know which are you

Will you make a big splash to get my attention
I just want to know which are you
Or will you be one whose name I shouldn't mention
I just want to know which are you

will you be one to show how much you care
And then leave me blindsided in the cold night air
I just want to know which are you
I just want to know which are you
I just want to know which are you

Scratch My Hide! (DANCERS)
Perry Crawford 2004

The Lion was under an itchy attack
Unable to scratch at a spot on his back,
He was jumpin’ and spinnin’ at a fevering pitch
But he couldn’t get rid of that terrible itch!

He was doing his dance with his back to a tree
And soon he was joined by a chimpanzee,
They were jumping and spinning at a fevering pitch
In a dance that was started by a terrible itch!

They were stamping their feet while turning around
And shaking to the beat of the scratching sounds
Their paws on their backs, one high and one low
And movin’ their scratchers as fast as they could go

The lion said it will be better with three,
They’ll be scratching on you while you’re scratching on me,
At the same time I will scratch them too,
We’ll all feel better and will have fun too!

They called to a monkey to join in the dance,
Soon all of the jungle was wantin’ a chance,
At jumping and spinning at a fevering pitch
In a dance that was started by a terrible itch!

This is more fun than a barrel of monkeys!

They were stamping their feet while turning around
And shaking to the beat of the scratching sounds*
Their paws on their backs, one high and one low
And movin’ their scratchers as fast as they could go.

They scratched up high, they scratched down low,
From the tops of their heads to the tips of their toes,
The scratched their belly, they scratched their nose,
They did back scratching as fast as they could go!

Around in a circle all single file,
Shakin’ and a scratchin’ and a spinnin’ all the while!

Now scratch up high, now scratch down low,
From the top of your head to the tips of your toes,
Now scratch your belly, now scratch your nose,
Now do back scratching as fast as you can go!
SCRATCH MY HIDE!

BETWEEN THE STARS (LOVERS)

Between the stars, past Earth and Mars,
In the vast frontier of space,
There's room for dreams, past all extremes,
For all the human race.

Transfix your sight, on stars at night,
See the darkness in between.
No thoughts can stall at fence or wall,
There's no boundary to be seen.

Between the stars past Earth and Mars,
I'll leave my thoughts behind.
A trail straight to my wandering heart,
For my own true love to find.

Each shining star with in our sight
Are notes from God's own score.
When we tune our lives to light,
They brighten even more.

Between the stars, past Earth and Mars,
My soul is set to fly.
I'll sign my name between the stars,
And wait for you on high.

Set On You (PLAYERS)

Music by Brent Lewis, Lyrics by Perry Crawford

I've got my heart set on you-
Got my head set too.
I've got my hopes set on you,
All my dreams too.

I've got my mind set on you,
And you know it's true.
Got every part of me set
On a part of you.

I've got my eyes set on you-
Got my ears set too.
I’ve got my lips set on you,
Nothing you can do.

I've got my soul set on you,
And you know it's true.
Got every part of me set
On every part of you!

Brian,

What a lovely thread, thanks for posting. "Lovers, Artists, Dancers and Players", made me think all the way through, I wonder what its going be, I wonder who he's talking to and if they stay.... so great ....you got me hooked!

Perry,

I really enjoyed your lyrics, "Scratch my hide" was funny and vivid and I think it would be especially brilliant for a children's film. They'd love it! "Between the Stars" was so beautiful and lyrical and I loved the connection to the 'one consciousness'

Tribes of the World Unite

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OphjKGs-Vvs

Music by Brent Lewis
Lyrics Written by Perry Crawford

Tribes of the world, unite with the beat of one heart.
Rhythms of love, together, the healing will start.

All we need do is reach deep inside ourselves.
And pull out the love lying there on dusty shelves.

Then we'll have the love we all want,
The love we need, then we'll have the love that we need.

Pain fills the world by things we say and we do,
Forgiveness heals, helps us start over anew.

Tribes of the world, united in sweet harmony,
A song of love, healing the troubles we see.

Sing out to others to reach inside themselves,
And pull out the love lying there on dusty shelves.

Then we’ll have the love we all want,
The love we need, then we'll have the love that we need.

Tribes of the world...unite!

Hi Guys, here's my contribution to the theme with an 'artist' painting a picture of 'Bluebells':

Bluebells’ (Artists)
Words and music by Joanne Coyle (2017)

As the fog of fear starts to clear
An enchanted forest at last appears
Old oak trees with laden branches
Ripe with promise and so many chances

Chorus
Bluebells, Oh bluebells swaying in the wind
Listen can you hear them sing? For the start of spring
Bluebells, oh bluebells reaching for the sun
Feelin’ like its’ just begun, in the warmth of the summer sun

Down the lane to where the willow weeps
Lies a pool where Beauty falls fast asleep
See her crystal clear reflection
In a loving web of true connection

Chorus

Deep into the heart of this wood
The cycles of lifetimes are understood
Winter’s just a time when nature sleeps
Til spring gently comes and kisses her cheek

Extended Chorus
Bluebells, Oh bluebells swaying in the wind
Listen can you hear them sing? For the start of spring
Bluebells, oh bluebells reaching for the sun
Feelin like its’ just begun, in the warmth of the summer sun
Bluebells, oh bluebells bowing to the sun
When you think your time is done, you’ll stay forever
young ……

You made my day. You answered Longfellow's call in "The Day is Done" when he requested his love to read to him:

Read from some humbler poet,

Whose songs gushed from the heart.

Thank you.
