I actually wrote this one a while ago, but I just made some tweaks to the recording and thought I'd post it in case anyone has other tweaks to suggest Any comments/suggestions welcome and appreciated, as always. http://mysteriousbeings.com/portfolio/an-empty-glass/or for anyone who prefers to listen at SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/gavin-sinclair-5/an-empty-glassAN EMPTY GLASS Many the night that we have sat around this table The tales we’d tell and the jokes that we would crack. I’d put my arm around you now if only I were able If only I could have you back. We’ll save a place for you, my friend Whom we’re so proud of knowing And though the chair be empty now Our hearts are overflowing. Many the glass that we have raised to one another Laughing eyes across the foam This was a party that we thought would last forever I cried when you went home We’ll raise a glass to you, my friend It is our way of showing That though the glass be empty now Our hearts are overflowing. This old room still may ring with our laughter At the memories that you left behind But in our hearts there’s a before and there’s an after A clock we can’t rewind We’ll tell our tales of you, my dear Until it’s time for going For laughter’s never empty when Hearts are overflowing

Like it Gavin! Has a Celtic feel to it. At 2:49 to 3:02 there's a sound that hits the same time as the snare, then other times before 3:02. A bit upfront (out of place) to my ears. Other than that I like it a lot. Best, John

What struck me most, Gavin, when I first read through the lyrics while listening to the music, was the way you ended the song. Excellent!

Thanks for listening, John and Drifter. John, I will check out that part you mention.
And yes, it is "Celtic." Most of my stuff is, in that it's all about the melody. It's the music I grew up with.

Nice sentimental tribute to a lost comrade, Gavin, although a more fitting title might be Hearts Are Overflowing, or maybe Overflowing? Just a thought. Nicely done and your vocal suits it well.

Gavin,
Warm, lovely melody and vocals. Agree with those above—a nice Celtic feel (almost can hear bagpipes in the background—though the violin works just fine). Pretty tune--enjoyed the listen.
Kind regards,
Deej
