Hey there JPFers all over the world. It seems the more time I have, the less I get done, especially when it comes to posting here. I'm hoping to make up for that. This song is hot off the presses from the delightful Mike Zaneski. It's mainly just to share but, as always, constructive critiques are welcome. Thanks for listening and have a great weekend. Ricki https://soundcloud.com/rickib/night-knows-my-nameNight Knows My Name When I look on down my lonely road Is it you there at the very end With a smile and a hand to hold Or will shadows be my only friends In the daylight I can pretend But the dark remembers who I am And night knows my name I make believe I have no regrets But I’m scared cause I’ve played like a fool And I know you’re not a sure bet In my search for the heart of you In the daylight I can pretend But the dark remembers who I am And night knows my name Have to lose these chains of my own device And step out into the light I need to be whole and in control Before I offer up my heart and soul In the daylight I can pretend But the dark remembers who I am In the daylight I can pretend But the dark remembers who I am And night knows my name © Ricki E. Hi Ricki:
Wow... love that "resonator" guitar sound... and your vocal is like butter off a silver knife. Americana??? Yes... but it's "Blues to me"... and I really enjoyed my listen. Kudos to Zaneski, while I'm at it.
Thanks for sharing... ----Dave

Big fan of both you and Mike. Enjoyed the song Ricki.
It's a personal thing but it reminds me of a summer that I spent in SoCal as a teenager. Someone lent me their VW to drive around in and the only Eight track in the car was a "Donovan" tape that had "Season of the Witch" on it. Got hooked on that song and this one reminds me of it.
"When I look on down my lonely road Is it you there at the very end With a smile and a hand to hold Or will shadows be my only friends"
Very nice. Enjoyed it.

Hey, Ricki! Good work on this one. It does have that 'Season Of The Witch' feel to it like Martin indicated. Don't know exactly why that is but... Anyway...a sugg:
I make believe I have no regrets But I’m scared cause I’ve played like a fool And I know you’re not a sure bet In my search for the heart of you
Thought I'd played my cards with no regrets Too scared of losing a heart like hers And now I know you're not a sure bet Will these cards win a hand like yours

Thanks Martin. Mike's a great partner to have. Season of the Witch, eh? Interesting...have you ever heard the version by Bloomfield, Kooper & Stills? Awesome 10 minute jam - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWzoHwP4T4gRicki

Thanks for listening, Drifter, and for the suggestion, although at this point I don't think I'll be changing anything.

Thanks Dave, Martin, Drifter and Calvin.. Thanks for the nice comments. There is a bit of SOTW in the chords--and if one is familiar with the Al Kooper version, I think he uses a similar organ sound. But other than that, I think the comparisons end and Ricki's song is pretty much it's own thing. Always fun working on Ricki's songs as they well written and moreover make me feel stuff. Mike

Hi, Ricki,
This was a cool listen--the vocals and feel of this song resonate; there's a tangible emotion within. The lyrics on the chorus are killer; nice change on the bridge. Kudos to you and Mike. Very well done.

LOVE IT! Great work guys and the slides on this are incredible. Also love the strings that come up near the end. Great motivation to add a little more slide to my songs! Keep it up

I enjoyed this one a lot. Parts of it made me think of Dory Previn. Other parts didn't

Woah...the opening almost had me off my seat! Thankfully, I settled in ;-) Love the sound, here. Great mood...and love that singer. All the instruments blend like a fine shine. Some good backwoods atmosphere....and then the singer shifts it into something a bit bluesy / jazzy......nice!! Always a pleasure!! -Tom

Great mood indeed.
The maestro strikes again. Everything about this production is spot on, Mike. Outstanding arrangement.
And a killer / dynamic vocal performance, Ricki.
2 thumbs up

Very beautiful in every way--A top shelf sassy, bluesy production, that cries for me to listen again and again.
I love it!

Great vocal. But as a lyric writer I particularly liked the words. But a great song a round Travis

Oh yeah, I can really dig this bluesy gem. Cool lyrics/ cool music - and fitting vocal (nice falsetto Mike). Damn, now I've gotta write a low-down blues track today. You guys changed my direction today. Best, John

Hey, John, whatever we can do to help... Can't wait to hear your blues tune. I'm not sure if you were being facetious about Mike's falsetto but...that's my vocal... Thanks for listening, glad you dig it. Ricki

Thanks for listening, glad you dig it. Ricki Oops, I'm embarrassed. When you mentioned it was hot off the presses of Mike's. I assumed he did the vocal - in which he would of had to use a falsetto to hit those notes. Liked your vocal too Ricki! John

Hi Ricki, thanks for sharing this. Solid songwriting and the production really supported the overall mood of the song. Nice vocal work and slide guitar.

Love the "Device/Light" rhyme, great idea for a write! Probably one of the BEST vocals I have ever heard from you, my favorite and great production, but I always know that's what I'm going to hear from Mr. Z. Really liked this one, great collab!
