One of my recyced oldies.
A DANCE WITH DAD
c2002 Brian Beecher
She never had a dance with Dad At the daddy-daughter dance in high school And this would often cross her mind While she was at the gym or health club
Her father left home when she was three Why le left was such a mystery She soon had to grow up and To be efficient at solving problems
She never had a dance with Dad During the parents week at college She had to put on the foreman’s hat All the while gathering more knowledge
She’d be aching for the chance to get Into the action and even show off a bit On many days she’d be high-strung Striving to be number one She’d only just begun
Her day called out of the blue And at the age of forty-two She’d try to solve the mystery The truth can eventually set her free
It had her emotions swinging wildly Not knowing of all the history Some time for quiet meditation Could help ease her situation
She finally had her dance with Dad One evening at the local ballroom They were both making up for lost time For which they were both very grateful
He apologized for leaving her And then he vanished in the distance

This one seems more like a poem or short story than a song. Do you have music for it?
It is good and a lot of people can relate to it I am very sure.

Hi Brian,
For the most part I like this but I do have a question. The father shows up out of the blue--which is great, then they are dancing at a local ballroom--is that her wedding? Because fathers and daughters don't just dance. But the last 2 lines are what gets me. he apologies for leaving her--then leaves? I guess it could happen. I was just a bit unclear is all. good idea for the most part though. Take care, Roger

Oh, but schools do have father-daughter dances. And in the story the reunion no doubt took place perhaps at a local hotel with a dance floor. Interesting that I found this one just as Father's Day had passed. Might make a good story about a reunion of father and daughter for greater understanding after years of absence.
