I have spell check in writing emails and other areas but for some reason it quit working where I write and store my lyrics. I've tried everything I can think of but can't get it working again.

Hi Everett:
Spell checking software comes in many types and forms, mostly depending upon the type of operating system and word processor you are using. Then there are "resident" spell checkers that are "unique" to a particular website, such as JPF. I sometimes have to grab my dictionary because my Windows 10 (stupid Bing) attempts to argue with JPF or other sites... and I am forced to rely on the real source of knowledge. As I am typing this reply, my doggone screen is changing to a smaller text and doing things that annoy me to no end. I tend to believe the problem is with Windows 10 and not JPF's software.
Are your lyrics located on a computer that is connected to the internet? I never intentionally expose my lyrics or WAV and MP3 song-files to the Internet. I keep a dedicated computer OFF-LINE all the time. It seems to drive Microsoft Crazy but, after all, it is my machine. II am gradually migrating away from Microsoft and Apple to the relative safety of Linux.
Tell us more about your set-up and the name of your word processor so we can provide better advice.
Regards,
----Dave

Humm, Try Re-Starting your computer. Sometimes that will fix a host of problems.

Insufficient information Everett
Do you mean it stopped working in your word processing program but it works elsewhere?
Does it work when you ask it to spellcheck, or just stopped working "automatically"??
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

I'm on Windows 10 and I write my lyrics using Rich Text Doc, it worked perfect all along, it would underline in red any word spelled wrong, but stopped doing so for some reason. If I spell a word wrong here on this site or on an email, it works fine. I can use Rick Text without being on the net, but if I want to send a lyric to someone I have to go on line, but I still have access to where I store my lyrics. I've tried everything I can think of but to no avail.

Say no more, Everett:
IMHO, Win10 is the culprit. Even as I type this to you, my cursor wanders all over the screen, touches things on the screen and Bing tries to get involved, sometimes erasing an entire document. It has made my "on-line" experience a real drudge. I normally use my wife's laptop for the internet... but sometimes I have to resort to using my Linux computer.
Then of course... it could be the Russians, trying to get me elected! LOL!
Later, my friend. I'll bet Voorpoostal knows the answer.

Still not enough Everett but closer. RTF is simply a document format, not a program. I expect you are using Microsoft Word and writing and saving in RTF???
There should be a setting that 'toggles" the spell check setting as "on".
In Windows, spell checking is done via a common file called a .dll file---stands for dynamic link library. .dll files handle tasks common to all the various Windows programs and components.
Each individual program like excel, word, access, powerpoint etc has controls that tell that a .dll file what to do. For example, you can spell check the entire file, just a word etc.
In your case, make sure the "automatic" setting is on.
It's why I asked if it still spell checks when you ask it to. If nor, perhaps the .dll file is corrupt, or there is some Win10 glitch. I still use Win7 Professional.
To set the options in Word, go to File (extreme left on top meny, go to the bottom of the list to Options, and go to Proofing. That is where you set your global spell check options in Word.
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Thanks John. I don't know what I did but it seems to be working now. I noticed that I had the name of the file spelled wrong, when I corrected the spelling of the file, then it started working again. Computers, rrrrr can drive you bonkers.

What program are you actually using to create the files Everett?
Your "fix" makes no sense to me. If you had the name of the file spelled wrong, then that is a totally different file and your lyric would not be its content....unless you created a clone using the "save as" and mispelled it. Even then, the automatic check is a global application setting which you change as I describesd--at least in Word

I'm using Microsoft Word. I open that file and checked properties of the page I was putting the lyrics on, and I noticed something a little different than the other pages, then I noticed I had spelled the name of that page wrong, I corrected it and then checked if it would work, I spelled a word wrongly and sure enough it underlined it in red, which it would not do before. It's working now, so that must have had something to do with it, I'm happy. Thanks for taking time to make suggestions as to what the problem was.
