Does anyone here have experience with the Amazon Kindle Book publishing? The cost seems reasonable. A local teacher told me that all her students read from kindle books. Seems to be the future. Hard copy books will probably eventually disappear. I was considering hard copy books, but hear they're getting more difficult to sell. Anyway I'm wondering what costs are involved. Here's the Amazon Kindle Book publishing link: https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/A2MLJ06E7JKXLNBest, John

I have published a few books with Kindle. It didn't cost me anything. I laid them out using a program called Sigil. At the time, Amazon were improving their own software for transforming Word documents into Kindle books, so you may well be able to do the whole thing at the Amazon site these days.

Thanks Gavin! It appears Kindle Books can do it on their website. Seems to be the wave of the future. Good thing is the writer can continue to edit while selling books. I believe music can also be added (not sure). Best, John

Wondering if Amazon sends tax forms to sellers (1099, etc)? I'll make sure I use my bro's SS#.

Am about to give it a go on something myself John. Learning as I go and know nothing yet. But my first investigation will be AUDIBLE which I believe is associated with Amazon also.
It appears to be fairly easy and inexpensive.

It appears to be fairly easy and inexpensive. Audio books can be more expensive than you might think, if you want to do a good one. Good readers don't come cheap. That's if you have a novel. If you have poetry, it's probably a really good idea, as you can read it yourself and, if it's real poetry, it should be heard, rather than just read.

Not a pro and no experience whatsoever. My wife thinks that I will sound fine. I am taking a seven song story that I wrote and expanding it into a seven chapter novella and then combining them to an audio book. Books and songs from old dude unknowns have little to no chance of commercial success. But I have nothing to lose by trying and will enjoy the moments along the way. Hiring readers and paying significant sums for grammatical corrections etc would be money spent in the face of ridiculous opposing odds.

I think I read on Amazon (if using their Kindle Maker), it cost from $79 - over $300 depending on the project. Not audio though. John

It appears to be fairly easy and inexpensive. Sounds cool Martin! Maybe we can educate each other. Won't be doing mine for another 1-2 weeks. Best, John

Amazon Kindle Cost: "You don't have to pay Amazon anything upfront for the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) service. They merely take a 30% revenue share of your sales.Though they charge for their pro editing and book covers if you need their service. John

If you're a seller you do need to provide your SS# or Tax Identification #. John

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that selling books is like selling music - all about the marketing.

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that selling books is like selling music - all about the marketing. Quite the same I'm finding out Colin. Even the product format is taking a similar journey. Music: phonograph record-cassette-DVD-MP3’s. Books: hard copy – e-books/kindle books. I’m thinking in one decade hard copy books will be as obsolete as phonograph records. And like MP3’s, many Kindle Books are free. John

I think I found them when searching for book publishers. You can Google them to see comments about their services. There are a lot of these type book publishers. For a price they will publish your book, if they accept it. I've had a couple accept my book for a price. They want about $4200. 00 or so. I passed. I'm trying to send it to movie producers. I have contacted a few but so far no one has asked me to send a copy.

Mill City Press is much more reasonable than $4,200. Though I'm only considering 200 books to start (at around $3 per book). Not sure about their promotion plans. I think their basic is $799. If that is all the cost, the total would be around $1,400. I couldn't find a BBB report on this company. I just want to make sure this isn't a con. John .

Decisions, decisions, decisions? I don't envy you, who can you trust or not trust. It's like a music publisher, who will do a good job for you or just tie up your song for a year or two. Good luck which ever way you go.

Well, I don't think any of them/most of them are crooks. They offer a service for a price. As stated I will pass on them for their services. And I basically recommend against using any of them.

I'm considering this company just to make the paperback: https://bookprinting.com/ As far as Mille City Press...I don't have a lot of faith in them at this time. John
