Just Enough Rope
(c) 2017 Geneva Griffin
V1 She lived through blindin' dust though she lost her bonnet, The hot sun beat down on her scalp and when she aimed for keeps, She survived that sharp tomyhawk on the road to Deadwood, And still left her man enough rope to lasso his dream..
V2 As she busted sod on the land that was theirs to homestead, He hung from a limb with rope enough to pick at a deep gold vein, Come back and polished off his fill of flap-jaw coffin varnish, While Bordello-Sal took his words to heart and rode away..
CH He put a noose around his neck.. and started kickin.. His horse and his sorry can to where no-one-else-knows...... His young bride would become known as the Deadwood widow.. Cause she always gave her man just enough rope......
V3 Some town folk said he caught and killed that woman, Others thought she'da been the one to get the drop, His bride knew neither one would ever be heard from, One rumor had it the two had planned to run off....
CH He put a noose around his neck.. and started kickin.. His horse and his sorry can to where no-one-else-knows...... His young bride would become known as the Deadwood widow.. Cause she always gave her man just enough rope......
His wealthy bride would become known as Deadwoods black widow .. Cause she gave her man just enough rope, And caught the next stagecoach........

Never really been a fan of "Liberty Valance" genre songs. And this one is very depressing, but I liked the way you wrote it and love the title.

Thanks Martin,
"Liberty valance genre", never heard it put that way!
The wording is one of the most important thing to me when I try and write a story song,
That and it makin' sense to others cause they're hard for me to write!

Maybe Neil but not much in the current story.
I could loose a couple words per verse right now but I think I need everything else.
I changed the story a few times before posting, then again after wonderin' if it' believable.
I can draw on history, but have no personal experience or things I can look to in others to draw on so this one will likely evolve into something totally different. The jury's still out
