please listen..... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewartRoseberry Garden © words and music by C. Stewart (Jan 17, 2017)
We picked a rose or two I fell in love with you Butterflies photographed our kiss
You broke my heart in two Walked off with someone new Who knew it would end like this
Fingers of sunlight in Roseberry Garden How long's it take for the cement to harden Fingers of sunlight in Roseberry Garden
Angels saw you die So did I I sang this lullaby to you
Blood on my fingers And blood on my shoes I sang this lullaby of death to you
Fingers of sunlight in Roseberry Garden How long's it take for the cement to harden Fingers of sunlight in Roseberry Garden
Love dies in so many ways There's so many shades of blue
Fingers of sunlight in Roseberry Garden How long's it take for the cement to harden Fingers of sunlight in Roseberry Garden
Who knew Who knew it would end like this Who knew Who knew it would end like this

Calvin,
This is a crazily haunting tune, with some awesome lines. The "Hmmmm" at the end of the chorus is creepy, and adds to the mood. Well done and enjoyed the listen.

Calvin,
Very cool indeed. I just like how the words flow, I gave up years ago trying to understand what you really mean anyway. You are a "surreal lyrical fragment artist." I'm kidding you a bit, as I do get some of what you say. But if your style of lyrics or music for that matter were easily understood, it would lose it's appeal.....
(As far as how long it takes "cement" to harden--actually portland cement is an additive and incorrectly used to call concrete--"cement." As for how long, It depends on the portland cement/water ratio to the concrete mix & relative humidity along with ambient temperature--2-3 hours on an average summer day, slower if you add a "retarder" to the mix). Okay, I was a Decorative Concrete contractor for a few years.

Hi Calvin,
The soft "almost" country sound you get here reminds me of Lambchop a bit, my favorite Nashville based Indie band.
I love the atonal soundtrack-y bits as well. You seem to religiously go with your lyrics, letting the music take you where they lead, and I love the results.
Mike

Loved this Calvin, the way the music is sad and inviting and the words raise the hair on the back of your neck, but it is compelling and makes me want to read it over again. I think you have made something special, I agree with the "Poe" comparison, it is beautiful in a scary way.....I had to go looking for this, it came on after a song of yours I was listening to and I must say, this is one of my favorites of yours!
