This is the latest song that I've been working on. Not sure that I'm very happy with the lyrics yet so I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks for listening and all comments welcome!

When we were children ... just little children

I used to tease you and pull your hair.

As we got older ... a little bit older

I ignored you like you weren't there.

That's just the way things were

That's just the way things were.

Then we were teenage ... crazy teenage

That's when I found that I loved you.

Soon we were married ... happily married

and soon became parents too.

That's just the way things were

That's just the way things were.

As we got older ... a little bit older

aging like a fine red wine.

When we were older ... quite a bit older

stay together throughout all time.

That's just the way things are

That's just the way things are.

That's just the way things are

That's just the way things are

A cute song Jimmy.
One sugg I have is to find another line for:
"As we got older ... a little bit older
aging like a fine red wine".

It's been used many times in different forms and fine white wine ages well too.

Maybe it could be:
"As we got older ... a little bit older,
entangled like an ancient grape vine".

UOL

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Hi Jimmy,

Your recording skills are improving with each successive recording. Your songwriting has always impressed me. There's a rawness and directness and unpretentiousness to the way you say things, and with the things you choose to say.

The only improvement I can think of is sonically this seems a really "dry" sound, and I could imagine a bit of reverb added here and there, but this is sounding really nice, as is..

Mike

I like the lyrics just the way it is (pun on title intended here). You should be proud of your accomplishment on this one, because you went out there and did something that many don't have the ability to do. There is a lady who does a folk music show on a college radio station every Tuesday night and if you would like I'll give you her email address in a PM so you could send it to her. Peace.

Heartfelt acoustic ballad with an Americana vibe.

I especially liked the construction of the guitar tracks opposite each other in the stereo field. The overall performance and production are pretty good.

I agree with Mike that you could use a bit more "space" in the mix (e.g., reverb). Also, the vocal needs some mids pulled somewhere in the 400-800 range (I am guessing 650Hz) to give it that nice open sound - then add a touch more reverb (use a long pre-delay so it doesn't clutter the vocal). I might even be tempted to experiment with some chorus or other modulation effects (just a touch) on the guitars to really meld them together.

Overall, strong song with decent production.

Peace,
TC

Sweet love song, Jimmy and it sounds really nice musically as well. Small nit..."as we got older" or "when we were older" begs the questions, what are you now? Maybe it would make more sense to say "now that we're older we'll be together for all time". Just an idea. I enjoyed my listen.

Thanks for listening Ricki ... I was happy with most of this song but the last lyrics just wouldn't come together for me ... I appreciate your thoughts very much!
