Oh, so you want to play that way. That anybody who says something contrary to your love affair with Dylan, must be lying, so insist that they go and research it all

You don't k ow Dylan, all you know abiut him, is the what you read, which everybody has read something.

Obama gave him a medal in 2012" he supported Obama, he didn't support bush or trump, and that is one of the reasons you

Ok, go out and find me all the people who say. Dylan is a rifle carrying conservative, I'll wait till you find them all.

What a jerk

No Ben, we're done here.

I choose to celebrate Dylan's Nobel prize as well deserved and think it is awesome it has gone to a songwriter.

You choose to piss all over it because you think he's a lefty almost communist and anyway, the award means nothing because it is all political

Reading really is fundamental. Amazing how people can not stay on course with a subject, in school reading comprehension was deemed very important...

Some very interesting articles:

Much of this sounds familiar...

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/14/arts/music/bob-dylan-nobel-prize-literature.html

Bob Dylan winning a Nobel in Literature is like Mrs Fields being awarded 3 Michelin stars, the novelist Rabih Alameddine wrote on Twitter. This is almost as silly as Winston Churchill.
Jodi Picoult, a best-selling novelist, snarkily asked, Im happy for Bob Dylan, #ButDoesThisMeanICanWinAGrammy?

Its literature, but its music, its performance, its art, its also highly commercial, said David Hajdu, a music critic for The Nation who has written extensively about Mr. Dylan and his contemporaries. The old categories of high and low art, theyve been collapsing for a long time, but this is it being made official.

Whazzat?
You thought there were no politics in Awards? Man do I have a Bridge I want to sell you!
My former Publisher used to say, Opinions are like *ssholes. Everybody has one. Lessee, where was it?, Now I remember, somebody wanted a Brain, Somebody wanted Courage, and somebody wanted a Heart. Heck, I just want somebody to record some of my songs!

I'm not asserting there are no politics in awards, nor that Dylan wrote some protest songs

I just get rankled by the fact this is a songwriters site and we should all be happy a songwriter, a legendary songwriter, a songwriter with a lengthy career and a songbook of truly outstanding songs that touched more than one generation won a Nobel for his life's work...

....and he is being denied his due because some ( many?????) folks who do not like his political convictions, pointing directly at some of his classic works that actually influenced people AND historical events AND generations...and go on to dismiss the entire process as not worthy of thought because it is political.

As for "the award process" is political...well duhhh ...ALMOST EVERYTHING that involves multiple preferences and opinions is political in life. Do we negate all things that come as a consequence of a political process just because they were arbitrated through a political process??

Do we now say ALL previous Nobel prizes are inconsequential, all Presidential Medals are inconsequential, all awards of any kind are inconsequential...just because they came through some political process where people put forth their personal choices, lobbied for them, fought for them etc until a group concensus was achieved??

What about any kind of institution or enterprise? Rife with politics. Do we now dismiss landing a man on the moon because it was the result of a political process...on a government scale, in committees, in choosing Armstrong to be the first man to set foot on the moon...??

Or is it because you think the politics in this instance are "left wing" and therefore tainted...oh yeah, that was it. It's because Dylan is a left wing, almost communist and the Nobel selection committee only likes those kinds of people.

Humm,
At the risk of being raked over the coals, old terminology, It appeared Dylan didn't want the "Award" but finally went and accepted it.
Kinda like a story my daddy used to tell. It appears, now we are really talking old, that a certain town wanted a certain guy out of town and proceeded to ride him out of town on a rail.
The guy said, If it wasn't for the glory of the thing, he would rather walk.

I can't say that Dylan getting a prize for his songwriting is a bad thing. He is a cultural icon, and I live where he was born. But much like the rock 'n' roll hall of fame that leaves out a lot.

The Nobel Prize has always been presented as something that was given out to noted political leaders or citizens deeply involved in that.
But what are they going to do with their classification with that?
Form a UN that is not all parties and trinkets?

Cool down there, we don't want to start insulting people over politics again do we. Everyone has a right to their opinion and even express it. We still have freedom of speech, even though it is being badly eroded through political correctness these days.

Just Plain Quotes
"Our enemies may not be who we think they are. They are not Major Label monopolies. The world will always have 'majors.' They are not big corporations who own everything. The world will always have 'big' ones. Our enemies are not the loud mouthed critics telling us we will fail. The world will always have those too. Our most dangerous enemy is our own quiet acceptance of the fate we perceive these entities have mapped out for us. The only danger is our own complacency, or inactivity, and our willingness to believe so called experts who tell us we 'can't' and that our grim fate is inevitable." -Brian Austin Whitney
