Is it me or my system, but every time I bring up JPF pages, a row of google ads appear at the bottom of the page.

Happens in chrome, explorer, firefox and slimjet. But not with any other webpages..

any thoughts

God Bless Roy and Helen

It's an unwelcomed guest with no scruples Ray. Brian knows about it. Property rights don't apply to the Internet I reckon. There's an X in the right top corner of it to click out of it.

Colin, I have an ad blocker on my PC, and I still see these ads. What I do *not* see is the little "x" thing to shut them off.

Hey Joe, move your cursor towards the right top corner of the pop-up. Then a tiny box with an X will open.

The popup is from Sharaholic. I've never heard of it but it's highly annoying.

Don't quite know what you mean by 'unwelcomed guest' John, surely 'Sharaholic' must be activated at website level for it to happen.
But at least I am not alone. I did spend 2 hours last night uninstalling programs and running removal tools to try and get rid of it.

I was even contemplating a windows re-install thinking it was a virus.

I see that once you click the cross, it stays away.. so that's cool.

God Bless Roy and Helen

They're definitely not here by invite Ray, thus, an unwelcomed nuisance.

I have it with Firefox and a Lubuntu (variant of Linux) operating system. So it is not a problem with our computers. It is definitely a virus on the JPF server.

Okay folks,

It's NOT a virus, but I also DID NOT activate it or ask for it. It may be somehow connected to the share buttons on the site, but I was never told anything about this sudden addition of spam all over the bottom of our page. The way they CLAIM it would work is that we'd get money for clicks. That's BS though from all that I have read on line. I really wanted the feature to be able to share posts on social media, but there was no warning about these stories at the bottom. You're in no danger, so please just deal with it for a bit until I can work out what to do. We've gone over 20 years with no ads, I don't plan on starting now, especially with someone I didn't ask for. In theory they would start sharing stories related to our site. The stories I believe are harmless so if you happen to see something interesting and want to click it, I am unaware of any problem doing so, but to be clear, we're not getting anything for it nor did we ask for it, activate it or were even made aware of it at any time, but it does appear to be built into this software.

I am going to ask one of the programmers to come here and calm concerns, because I am getting pounded on Facebook, email and here about this.

FYI

I'm using Chrome and an ad blocker and the JP2009 "skin" and have no idea what you are talking about smile

I see the faxebook, twitter, Google+ etc buttons, but that's it. Those are pretty normal in this day and age

Hi Folks:

I now have Windows 10 instead of 7 due to unknown and unrequested action by others (probably Microsoft) and it is becoming a real pain in the posterior. I feel my privacy is being invaded... and the pop up ad-screen being discussed here shows up at the bottom of my screen, full length and about 3/4 of an inch high. I hope Brian is able to quell this crap and cause it to vaporize. At times, when scrolling, the ad disappears but comes back at a time of it's own choosing.

Thankfully, I also have a Linux based operating system on my other computer and it seems to be impervious (so far) to this malarkey.

Let's hope our Government will bring these folks to financial ruin. Too many ads, topics with unproven claims and mostly drivel are being imposed on us on a broad front... including Television. Count the number of commercials we must endure as a show takes an "ad break." Usually as many as 10... and it appears most of these advertising agencies failed Advertising 101... many make no sense at all.

What a world!

----Dave

Barry, We haven't charged for anything for 31 years. This apparently is something that is part of the share buttons which they just unleashed. I am trying to find a way to remove it without losing the share buttons.

Everyone relax. Click the X to close it (I have to do it as well) and leave the JPF page up on your browser rather than closing it and that seems to keep it from popping up again (at least for me). I have asked the programmer for help, waiting on a response to clarify something before I delete it all. I like being able to share interesting posts onto Facebook. We're doing our best.

Hope the "ads" get removed as it makes the website present itself as sleazy (they consistently use images of Donald Trump and big boobed women). To the best of my knowledge, that hurts the site's reputation, which you actually could sue for.

I'm still getting the popups. However, I finally found the "close" button (they hid it). All is good for right now.

I'm still getting them Brian.

funny thing is, the ads are always about local things, or are real spammy things

I do use the 'X' to close the panel

Damnit... I may have to delete the share buttons.. not sure what else I can do. That supposedly fixed it, but maybe it's not kicked in yet or perhaps they're just liars. They automatically turned that on, according to a form letter I got. We didn't ask for it or know about it.

Wait.. I have another suspicion Roy, can you help me out?

Oh, and for what it's worth.

The same time the pop-ups started on the website on my PC, I also started getting a pop-up on my I-phone when I logged in. It was from "Audiovox" and there was no "X" option.

I eventually stopped logging in on my phone....

Tried it again today...No pop-up on my I-phone either!!!!!!

Whew....

It was not just us. It was every site using Shareaholic. It has been a benign thing but they forced out that pop up on everyone. It has been a MAJOR time waster but folks have been using the share feature (as well as me) which is important. There are many ways to monetize our traffic using them, but I have it all turned off because I don't appreciate their tactics. I was forced to create a log in on their site and they masked the way to get rid of it which I nearly gave up on but by accident and coincidence discovered a way in to stop it. Let me know if anything else happens.
