Must Have Been Blind
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13542862

You used to call me up in the middle of the night
You used to say my name, then you'd hang up in fright
You had a sweet dream... a crush on me
but you know me... I just couldn't see

Now, can you count 'em up
the times I was mean
I used to walk right by you
through the halls of James Greene
(but let me tell ya...)
My, My I musta been blind
cause girl, you sure look fine

I musta been blind
I left you hangin on air
but baby, I'm your man tonight
I musta been blind
Do you have the time for a steak and some wine?
I musta been blind
I'm really sorry you know but I promise I'll make it all right
I musta been Blind
Yeah, Blind or outta my mind

Check out that blonde hair
that you never let grow
look out that shapely body
that you never would INVALID and let me tell ya...)
What I'd do to be the Avenue
underneath your sexy shoes

And who was I to criticize
I wouldn't blame you honey
if you never obliged
(but let me tell ya...)
My, My I musta been blind
cause here you are and you sure look fine

I musta been blind
I left you hangin on air
but baby I'm your man tonight
I musta been blind
I should be fined
for treatin you unkind
I musta been blind
I'm really sorry you know,
but I promise i'll make it all right
I musta been blind
yeah blind, cause you look outta sight

Yeah, I musta been blind
I bet your walkin along and
all the boys just drag behind ya
I musta been blind
so can you find
some way to be kind
I musta been blind
I bet home all alone
and the stars refuse to shine
I musta been blind
yeah blind, or out of my mind

Very cool, Trentb. Catchy too. Not much to pick at but if I had to, and I do :), I'd change the pre-choruses? if that's what they are from:

My, My I musta been blind
cause here you are and you sure look fine

to

My, My here you are
and you sure look fine

Then you don't have such a mouthful to get in and also you save your very catchy hook for the chorus. It's not like it isn't already repeated several times so, no worries that it won't be remembered. Anyway, just a thought. Nicely produced as well.

Ricki

Thanks Ricky, a few people have mentioned that to me, so it must have merit.

Don't see it as a nit. For me it wasn't hard to get the words in there, but I can see somebody else having trouble with it. Always harder to cover than to do your own song.

I'll consider that. Thanks for the comments.

Cool song with a good hook, and nice emphasis on the upbeat to keep it moving along.

I particularly liked this lyric:
"What I'd do to be the Avenue
underneath your sexy shoes"

Very clever prose.

The production is solid but I wasn't crazy about the ambient effect on the lead vocal. Some bigger harmonies in the chorus would really add to what you are already doing.

I really liked this rocker.

Peace,
TC

If it has strings I will find a way to play it!

Thanks Tc, this wouldn't be the record, just a demo, so there is room for tweaking.

Thanks for the nice comments

Trent,

Love the sound and rhythm--and the hook "must have been blind," first line in the chorus, really strong. It's a great sounding tune--kinda reminds me of Southside Johnny or something along those lines. Agree with TC that line about "Avenue beneath your shoes" is awesome (actually that whole verse is strong, strong). But that said, I think you can tweak the lyrics, as a couple of lines for me fall flat. For example, for me at least, the "Do you have time for steak and wine" doesn't fit and seems forced--maybe revisit? Also, the "cause you look outta sight" seems like an opportunity.

But these are just nits and suggestions. Dismiss them as you will, because it's your song . . . and what do I really know? Really love the sound of this. Thanks for sharing and putting up with my suggestions.

Regards,

Deej

Thanks Dee will mull your lugs. Steak and win is used cause of the age change. It wouldn't fit for teenager, but people in midlife it would, that's my take anyway!

Dee, listening back, for your southside Johnny reference, that's pretty wild. Suprised you mention him? love soutside, but didn't think I had any of him in my music. I guess I do, he's a legend in these parts. The Springsteen who stayed at home...

I must go now and listen to some southside...how bout this one? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ip-FL1t8jz0

I dig this one, very catchy. Agree with TC, go big with those harmonies.

I would 100% change "you look outta sight" to "or outta my mind", as in the other two choruses. I was enthused by the "outta my mind" line the first time around, and very disappointed to not get to hear it as much as possible. It adds a little more consistency to the choruses that change it up in favor of using more "blind" rhymes, a few of which are frankly underwhelming.

Also would change the adjective you use to describe those shoes. "Sexy" is a madly overused word and holds almost no meaning, except to assure the audience that you're talking less about the shoes and moreso the lady in them. Which is fine, but we already know you think she's sexy from the couple lines before. It can be better.
