Hey All,

Got invited to a lounge bar gig this weekend. I think lounge bars are coming back into vogue, especially with younger folks. Cool jazz and a laid back vibe.

Thing is, am I just too cool for school ? Am I too old to be a hipster ? What shall I wear ? Are waistcoats still a "I am a musician" statement ? Do I wear shades ? Do I over dye my greying goatie ? Oh the angst..... eek smile

cheers, niteshift

Hey Calvin and John,

Yeah, kinda out there huh ? And very elegant. A mix between 1920's gentleman's jazz club and hip modern retro ?

The invite is for Ms Rock Chic and me, so I wouldn't feel out of place on a Dad/daughter outing. I could just sit there scratching my beard and muttering "yeah, these cats are out of sight", and "back in the day" grin It's been while since I've been a lounge lizard. smile And in the meanwhile, Ms Rock Chic could be introduced to a few more seasoned muso's ( most I have introduced her to already ) and learn a lot from the pro guys present and their expertise, which they are very gracious with, in giving freely to an up and coming performer.

It all depends on the better half of course however, and would I be leading Ms Rock Chic astray ? I think not. It's always the other way around !

Anyways,if it works out, I'll add to the thread with the requisite selfies. smile

cheers, niteshift

Oh gosh,

I've been given the go ahead by "she that is all knowing". Lucky me. smile I've been told it's a very "eclectic and eccentric" joint. I've also been told not to "look up" as the artistic works upon the ceiling relate very vividly to the Karma Sutra. eek

Makes for some interesting conversation, I'm sure.

cheers, niteshift

Well, you should definitely go and look up, but do not encourage Ms Rock Chic to do the same, although she probably helped paint the ceiling.

As to what to wear, I am not up on the latest Aussie garb, but something like Miss Fisher and her sidekicks should be apropos. Here in Florida, the girls would be in little black dresses, and the men would be in anything from jeans and tee-shirt to waistcoat and tie. Skip the hair dye and take the opportunity to wear a beret. Actually best to let Ms Rock Chic pick out something for you then she can't say you're embarrassing her.

Hehehehe Colin,

Yeah I thought about the beret, but that would have been "way too old hipster". What a great venue. I didn't realise, but it's on three levels. The pics are of the main top bar, where we saw three different bands. First a young rock band 3 piece, 15, 16 and 17 yrs old. Brilliant musicians regardless of age, Then a 7 piece Aboriginal band, a lot of ska, reggae originals, And then Floyd Vincent and The Temple Dogs , whom we came to see, original guitar based 3 piece rock http://www.floydvincent.com/ I'll give 'em a link 'cos they're worth it.

Meanwhile, there's a "private" party on the middle floor ( we sneaked in ) with all the guests decked out in 1920's garb, and live music to match. Dang should have worn my Zoot Suit ! And at the entrance , an extension lead is run out onto the street and a 3 piece jazz band is playing, to later be joined by 2 rappers, who we met up with in the top bar later listening to said rock band.

Well, ya can't get more eclectic than that huh ? smile It restores my faith in live music venues that are promoting original music and good luck to them.

cheers, niteshift

PS - I'll put up some pics if I can find one or two that don't involve doing "unmentionables" with the mannequins that dot the room. blush

Just Plain Quotes
"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
