UPDATED - I added another track to hopefully tie the music together a little better. please listen..... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewart Death Notice Blues ( Black Widow ) © words and music by C. Stewart ( May 30. 2015 )
I read about it in The black and white Lost an old friend The other night
BLACK WIDOW
Black widow, sixty five Black widow run out a jive Black widow, long and lean Black widow run out a steam
I got the death notice blues
No one came to see her Just me and a John We're the only one's that know That she's even gone
Black widow, sixty five Black widow, run out a jive Black widow, long and lean Black widow, run out a steam
Won't be no reunion Or, old stories told The boulevard is hard and Back alleys cold
Black widow, sixty five Black widow, run out a jive Black widow, long and lean Black widow, run out a steam

Another stark, eerie lyric, Calvin, with music to match. Only things I'd think about changing are the breaks in the middle of the chorus. I'd keep those lines fluid and continuous. Just a thought. That final verse really sums up a tragic life.

As Eddie said...You're too abstract to critique. Nonetheless, I always enjoy hearing what you've done.

Hello,
I've added another track to the song to try and connect the music together a little bit better. Let me know what ya think.

Hi Calvin,
You are using words and music in a real painterly way here, and the overall effect is gripping and feels like a canvas dripping with dark colors and the blues, full of some meaning, some "loss" that's just barely out of reach.
Very cool!

Yep, still dark and very Calvin-ish. That's a good thing.

I was trying to see the reasoning behind using Black Widow; and I couldn't. Obviously a Black Widow is a female that kills her mate and I expected that to be found in the lyric. Didn't care for the breaks between lines 2 and 3 and at the end of that B. W. part. I thought the Death notice line would make a good one to start a bridge. Liked the piano and some of the tremolo on the guitar. Best of luck! -Mike

Hello Mike, Thank you for taking the time to drop in for a listen and to give me your thoughts/suggestions. Much appreciated. It was originally about a black female that died with nobody really seeming to care. So, I decided to write a story around her life, making her a street corner girl, with the nick-name of.....BLACK WIDOW Calvin http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewart
