Eh, Well,
When my wife and I visited Branson and went to Boxcar Willie's Theatre he came out front and asked the Audience to name a few of Hank's songs. So I said HOWLING AT THE MOON. Boxcar said, It's been a while since someone pulled that one on us.

Now Mr. know it all, what was the last song Hank released before he died? About 1 January 1953.

Hi Ray! I can't name the last song Hank released before his death. I do recall the day he died, however, and I was only in the first grade. I remember hearing it on radio.

Wasn't it "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive"?

Wow,
Give that man a cigar! You are correct Joe. I actually remember listening to it on the radio. You can Google Hank and read it on Wickipedia or however you spell it. Down near the bottom of the page.

My favorite Hank song is Nobody's Lonesome For Me. Catchy tune and amusing lyric.

Always loved this song. The lyric is so expressive.
-Mike

"I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"

Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry

I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind the clouds
To hide its face and cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves begin to die?
Like me, he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry

I think what makes satan so attractive to others is
that he tastes like chocolate...

In my mind, Hank changed the Country Music landscape forever. There have been many great Country Stars since his passing but none (in my mind) have eclipsed him... with the possible exception of Willie Nelson and Don Williams. My comments are meant to cover only the male singers... 'cause adding the Women "Greats" into the mix makes it an impossible task to judge.

Well,
Hank opened the door to modern country music. But it was Webb Pierce that held that door wide open when Hank died. Webb had so many hits, (Hank did too), that radio played Webb to death and a lot of other Artists were recipients of radio air play and got publicity they may have never received otherwise. Without Webb radio may have quit playing country music, it wasn't popular everywhere and went to programming something else. Eddie Arnold and Hank Snow were there a bit before Hank and were popular as well.
While I like many country artists from the 40's and 50's, Thanks Webb, I count Webb Pierce as the Country Artist of the Century with kudos to a slew of others as well.
