Reach Out
Music and Lyrics ©2017 John Voorpostel

Donít think we can get it wrong
With help from the old and young
Together weíre much stronger
And I think our time has come

Letís gather common words
The best of whatís been learned
Offer up our hand in friendship
Reach out to the world

So reach out
To someone you donít know
Someone different
Learn what makes them who they are
Reach out
Let your reach exceed your grasp
Build a friendship that can last
Find the questions you can ask
Learn what makes the other who they are
And paint them in the colours of your love
Paint them in the colours of your love

Can you help to get it done
Itís a movement, come along
Voices growing stronger
Working hard to make us one

Weíll grow on common ground
Nurture every sprout
Together we can find a way
To bring it all about

So reach out
To someone you donít know
Someone different
Learn what makes them who they are
Reach out
Let your reach exceed your grasp
Build a friendship that can last
Find the questions you can ask
Learn what makes the other who they are
And paint them in the colours of your love
Paint them in the colours of your love

Everyone is one
Everyone is one
Every living person is a part of everyone

Everyone is one
Everyone is one
Reach out everybody be a part of everyone

Everyone is one
Everyone is one
Everyone is one
Everyone is one

So Reach out

Thank you Michael and Barry

The project is our contribution to World Interfaith Harmony Week, which starts today. So it does call for some lofty goals.

And Michael, in eliciting comments from people before finalizing the video, some folks mentioned the penis and whether or not it would be distracting or offensive. I felt that it would not be offensive as it is a world famous image that is pained on the celing of The Sistine Chapel...so if it was OK for the Catholic Church, I felt it was fine.

Now the size of it...well I just hope it didn't make you jealous grin

Firstly, John. I apologise I wasn't able to help out with this.
It's a worthy project but nowhere near my vocal key.

My only comment would be is that at first look, the video has quite a harsh style. Like a corporate training video. Maybe that's the style you're aiming for though.

Praise to all involved.

Vic

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Hi Vic

Thanks for checking in..and next time smile

The video was actually produced in Powerpoint which exports into an Mp4 format---which then got dropped into a video editor with the sound track and some text boxes.so maybe you picked that up.

Do know too that Youtube does not render well in Explorer 11, not as well as it does in Chrome. So I actually added a note to the video thanks to your comment. Not sure if you actually used Explorer...but if you did, it does not sell the video at all.

As what I was aiming for ...to get the message out in the best way I knew how...so I used Powerpoint as that metaphorical hammer you have that makes everything look like a nail smile

Having said that, it did allow me to gradually "paint" the "Creation of Adam" with the various images as they disappeared from the frame....which was what I was aiming for.

Hey John,

There are 2 parts here, so I'll start with the video.

I don't know it's intent, so it's hard to give a real opinion. It seems to me like an infommercial, so if that was it's intent, it works well and is clear and concise in it's message. To me, the wording runs a little fast, and I had to power read to keep up. As a "spread the word" kind of thing, it is probably way too long to keep the viewers' attention. Maybe an edit down to 1 min max to get the message across.

If it's a video of a song,( to listen to and watch ) then I would say that using that video format didn't work for me as either entertaining or something I would wish to keep viewing. ( that may not be it's purpose )

To the song. Very listenable, and a good message without getting preachy. A good write. Music production is solid. I know I'm going to offend someone here, but the vocals to my ear are off pitch, especially the female lead. I don't know why ? Perhaps try running it through Melodyne ( lightly ) just to bed it down and may help in the delivery.

Hope I'm not too tough. It's got a really important message, and has solid content. If it's delivery could be tied down, and reach a wide audience, then it all helps in making the world a better place.

cheers, niteshift

Thanks for the input Midnite.

Things are pretty well done with this, so we have to live with it, warts and all. We had bedding music, but the vocals and sax were done live and with three takes---so yeah, some parts I'd like to have worked on, but such is live smile

As far as the video goes, yes, it was meant more to carry the message than to be the background for the song...so perhaps a bit of the reverse. The important part was the video, and the backdrop was the song

I expect had we done this in a studio vs a church (there is a choir in the background), the music would have been better with more takes to get things just right.
