The languid fog is coming, I see it rolling down the hill, And following it close behind, A relentless arctic chill,
More logs upon the fire, Perhaps they'll keep me warm, I lock the doors and windows, Forbidding entry to the storm,
I hear the wind approaching, It knocks so gently on my door, It whispers things that scare me, To ignore it's such a chore,
I draw the curtains, feed the flames, Can I keep the rage at bay? It's shaking everything around me, It begs, "Come out and play",
I cover my ears with balled up fists, And scream above the squall, Anything to drown the voice, I hear coming down the hall,
It says, "You're just too weak, You can't beat your simple fate, You can duck and hide all you want, I'll just sit outside and wait",
The storm wants to take me, To relieve me of my pain, So I stand beside the window, And watch the fury of the rain,
With a sigh of realization, I walk slowly to the door, I hear my footsteps slow and heavy, Making way across the floor,
Reaching for the doorknob, I take a breath and wipe a tear, It's time to give up hiding, The truth will always know I'm here.....

Wow, this is beautifully written. Lovely symbolism and visual imagery. I was right there.
This is also a wonderful example of rhyming that refuses to have that "sing-songy" feel. Very very nice.
I love the revelation in the last line that the 'storm' is truth. That's really cool.
Thanks for sharing-- Linda
