You have to let your guard down a little and allow yourself to enjoy good pop music.

In my opinion this group is one of the best power pop bands of all time.

They don't get a lot of credit, and they are basically known for one song which I hate called "Stacey's mom"

But these guys knew how to write catchy pop songs, I mean they are really good at it.

They were active mostly in the 90's early 2000's at a time when fun wasn't cool, melody wasn't cool, grunge was the
happening thing

But Listen to some of these tunes, they have a clear influence from the Beatles...who doesn't, but I think they are great, very underrated band

Always a tinge of reality In their tunes, fun stuff. They wrote from suburban points of view

Absolutely, I bought into their work early on, but have not kept up with what Adam and company are up to these days.

I don't think they record any more. Last album was in 2011. I've been listening to them more and more lately, good band to study if you want to write catchy pop rock songs.

So many great songs
This one always reminds me of uncle johns band by the dead, although much more popish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1A1cmIlsyk

And you know your lyrics are good when there is always a lyric video of your songs somewhere on yiutube

Hi Ben,

Their self-titled debut album was in constant rotation at the Nashville Tower Records late in my stint there from '93 to '96..

This song I have a perfect memory of, and has to be one of my ten favorite songs, ever ever:

If I was to teach a course in writing catchy pop songs, this one would definitely be an example. Great story-telling, great music, unforgettable hooks..

Mike

See, I never thought about them much and that song for me didn't rise up to even the weakest of the Beatles. I'd put The Rembrandts and others a notch above FOW.

I was just listening to that album about 20 minutes ago, with my guitar and writing chord progressions

I like that one too, but I tell ya, radiation vibe from that album gets me every time, killer song

Yeah they can tell a story too, mehich is hard to do in a pop format...

I don't think they were quite there yet on that album, but they got better and better as time went on.

Beatles are a very high bar, doubt they ever reached that, in fact I know they haven't, but hey. I think they are extremely overlooked.
Ironically the one song I can't stand is their biggest hit of all Stacey's mom which just annoys me

But we're all hit and miss

Haha Ray. They got the name from a defunct outdoor ornament store.

If I had thought of that name, I probably pull have hated it in the beginning, but I like the name now

Hi Ben:

I can't say I'm a fan but I sure enjoyed "Sick Day" and reading the comments of others. I do my best to keep from comparing a group or an artist with other groups or artists... but when all is "said and done"... as humans, we all tend to do it.

In the era of "grunge"... they picked a tough time to "open an act" (form a band)... but I can see where Zaneski is coming from... and they certainly write and perform catchy songs.

Thanks for sharing. ----Dave

If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
