It's that time of the New Year again. For a creative escape from the winter doldrums, be sure to check out FAWM (February Album Writing Month) This annual songwriting challenge begins on 1 February and finishes on 1 March. http://fawm.orgThe updated site is expected to be open again tomorrow (16 January), in readiness for the onslaught of lyrics, instrumentals, songs, and general madness & hilarity. The forums are already active, and folks are chomping at the bit, waiting to get started. Four weeks of fun, inspiration, craziness, and camaraderie, ending in everyone having new songs, lyrics, or instrumentals, ranging from one to 14 and more. You set your own goal. Fourteen pieces of work in 28 days is simply a guideline. Even if you produce only one piece of work, you're a winner. After all, it might be the one piece you wouldn't have created if you hadn't joined us for FAWM. UPDATE for clarity: The pieces aren't intended to be 'polished'. It's all about just getting down the bare bones of an idea, whether lyrical or musical. The polishing and revising happens after FAWM has ended. I hope to see some of you there. (A few of the usual suspects here are already enthusiastic members. ) For more details, here's the official FAWM FAQ link. http://fawm.org/help/ Donna

I'll be there!! I do believe the site open date is January 23rd, though. Wonderful community and a lot of great songs and fun!

Ah, they must have changed it today then, Kevin. When I checked the site this morning, it said January 16. I was hoping it wouldn't be later, because the 'warm-up' is always so much fun, but I suppose it's quite a task re-vamping everything.
Donna
UPDATE: You're right, Kevin. it does say the 23rd. I'd looked at the bottom of the page where it says 'reopening on January 16'.

Hi Donna! Thanks for the reminder! That came quickly! I hadn't realized it's about two weeks away now! I think the anticipation is fun to share with others too, but it does look like they've pulled the site to get it ready. Looking forward to it! Kristi
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be. -- Abraham Maslow, American Psychologist

Just 10 days away now, Kristi, and 2 days until the site re-opens. I'll bet folks are chomping at the bit! I've been jotting down lyric ideas on backs of napkins and scrap bits of paper. Hard part will be collating them all to see whether I can construct anything out of one of them. Donna

I have finally broken out my PowerDirector video editing software that I bought last year for FAWM 2016!! So I plan to record video of all my parts (on some songs) and then paste them as a semi-live performance.
I suppose that during FAWM all the videos will be mostly one takes without too much editing -- or I would never get to 14. After FAWM, I'll see how to get better at it.
Scott Campbell inspired me to get it, now I just gotta use it.
