One of the great musical talents that inspired many died this Christmas day. Only 53 years old, yet has all the history from Wham to his solo career. 2016 has seen the sad passing of a lot of great musicians and entertainers.

Definitely a tough year for famous people... much worse for victims of Islamic violence (Isis and their sympathizers as well as Syria's govt and allies) and Russian violence. It is a shame to lose these talented people, as well as the reality that we pay most of our attention to them and not the mass murders and mass suffering that is ongoing.

I hear everything you're saying, Brian, but unless you're going to open up the "Political Forum", again, now that the election is over, as a place to discuss(?)then I fear that "music" may be lost on the "General Forum"...And that would be a shame... Thank you, George Michael...Musician, gay, reluctant activist... Godspeed, and I hope your "Go Go" is a good one!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIgZ7gMze7AAnd then, nearly 30 years after "Go-Go"... Well, I can't imagine political controversy over what I said unless someone here is an Isis supporter and if they are, they should speak up so I and everyone else, knows who they are. Ironically they would have murdered George for being gay.
I've just read and seen literally 100's of news stories and online diatribes about how it's such a bad year for celebrities, but rarely a fragment of the same lament over the mass slaughter and suffering. George had an amazing life most people would happily have traded for...

George Michael's career as a singer/songwriter didn't amount to any interest for me I have to honestly say. However the news that he was a closet philanthropist who cared a great deal for the homeless and less fortunate was heartwarming and touching. As was the fact that he died so young.

We like the music that's out when we're young. I have adapted somewhat, singing Luke Bryan and Little Big Town.

Definitely agreed that celebrities are often used by the media as a cover for ongoing serious concerns. The hypocracy with that all. Like the media bias against actors like Mel Gibson for which much worse has been said from entertainers that have "their" view, and as part of their routine. The same common difference George Micheal seemed to have is that he really believed in life like he did to begin with and the Choose Life tee shirts. When entertainment celebrities are more than fodder then the least that can be done is to acknowledge their importance being individuals instead of minions.
