lonesome country... Some Of My Best Friends Are Songs People will move...they'll pass on, look around one day they're gone leaving you to make it on your own folks told me it was risky, to be alone with whiskey but I never had to drink alone 'cause some of my best friends are songs some of my best friends are songs though a man needs things near him, he must watch who he lets in dogs will die, women run away and I've long since discovered, after your dogs n lovers have left old records still play now some of my best friends are songs some of my best friends are songs they love me for better or worse rich or poor, right or wrong some of my best friends are songs songs I wish would never end that squeeze life from ev'ry minute songs by long forgotten men who learned the ground's the limit midnight walk down rainy streets, no women...no one to meet I duck in a dark saloon though I've been feeling lonely, I quit drinking...I'm only here for a Hank Williams tune 'cause some of my best friends are songs some of my best friends are songs they love me for better or worse rich or poor, right or wrong some of my best friends are songs some of my best friends are songs (c)2002 Robert George ------------------

Grouch,
Totally original angle, far as I know!
Who learned the ground's the limit...
If there's a "Hall of Fame" for individual lines, that's gotta end up there.

Glad I stopped in today. I really enjoyed this one, Couch. I wouldn't change a line or a word. This lyric includes whiskey, women, dogs, Hank Williams and rain...surely this must be the perfect country and western lyric . Hope this one gets music. Corey

Pretty damn cool spin on an old theme. Very hard to find, but I do believe you've accomplished just that on this one. Really nice work.

Time to put some flames on this folder! Ahh, the power of a catchy title. This is good, though. Real good. If I were to change one word, I'd say "So" to start the first full chorus instead of "Now". Fine job here, as usual. Anthony

Rob,
Besides not dying, lying and cheatin' on ya, they always remain as good as the day you first heard them.
Although this is very original, it sounds like it could be a chapter 2 to Tom T. Hall's "Old Dogs, Children And Watermelon Wine." There aren't many "story" songs I would analogyze to anything written by such a master story teller, but I think this one would hold its own quite well. Very nice, indeed!
Alan

So true. I've sung well over a thousand different songs in karaoke bars the last 20 years, my favorites over and over.

Just out of interest Robert I have noticed
a few collaborations you have done with various
writers over the years
Do you manage to meet up with these writers in person
or is it mainly on line
Do you play any instruments or sing your lyrics ?? and
have you had any songs put on hold or accepted by minor
or major singers
Have you any favourite Song Writers from the past or present
Just interested as I am sure a few others would be
If you feel this is being to nosy so to speak just ignore
I am not on here to disrupt or be sarcastic, just a point
have you ever thought of labelling your lyrics quoting a
format
Happy Xmas to you and all your collaborators xxx
One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.
In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

Hi Cheyenne and thanks for your interest. My main co-writer is Cameron Earnshaw and we've met several times in Nashville and once locally. He also lives in Az. I've had several indie cuts and they are available on Amazon. 1) Just Enough Light by One Night Rodeo 2) Heavy Cross to Bear by Nu-Blu 3) Heavy Cross to Bear by Holly Anne 4) Beats the Hell Out of Me by Stuart Rosh. 5) My Own Private Memphis by Al Carmichael (I Think you have to buy Al's from him.) 6) Let the Leaves Go Their Way by...I can't remember, haha. There's a JPF thread about it, though, with a link to the song. I don't play or sing but I meter and structure all my lyrics for melodies (even the weird ones!!), so co-writers rarely have to reword my lines. I have many favorite writers from the early 20th century on. The Beatles and Dylan got me into music. I think the 60s were the last great era of music. Rock and Roll died in the mid nineties and songwriting is all but dead. The songs I've heard from Hamilton? Lame. Same with La La Land. Every once in a while you hear an inspired song, but it's rare. She and Him are fantastic fun but they're retro. Merry Christmas, Cheyenne. Ps I've also had some major artist interest in a song. The artist loved it, the producer loved it, too. The impression we got is the label didn't think it was poppy enough for a single. It's not...it's just a great song. In my opinion, haha.

Lyric to me illustrates how songs and dogs have something in common (Man's best friend). That is such a powerful statement, and is probably akin to some of the old Hank Williams classics in a way. For another song with a similar message: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miPX638p2ZQ
