Fun, fun, fun. I'll be glad when it's done!

Downloading : https://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/p...?mc_cid=c60b1f7c46&mc_eid=fb776807d2

7 parts to the download. Probably take 3 hours. Dang it!

Bummer with the new sample package. After downloading them, I realized I needed a newer version of the Kontakt Player. I have 2 & 4, but need #5 for these samples. So I went to the Kontakt site and found what I needed. Unfortunately this player requires a minimum Mac OS 10.6. I have a Mac OS 10.5.8. So I checked for an upgrade to my Mac OS. Yep, itís available! No problem you say? Checked with the Apple techs and they told me it would probably effect those 4,000 Logic Pro projects on my computer. YIKES! Not an option. So since My OS 10.5.8 is so close to 10.6, thought maybe it would work with the new samples. Then I checked with the Kontakt techs to see if it could possibly work.

Their reply:

Kontakt 5 and Kontakt 5 Player are not compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 at all. The only Mac OS X version which supports Kontakt 5 / Kontakt 5 Player "5.3.1" is Mac OS X 10.7. Unfortunately, there is no work around to this limitation. You would need to use the recommended version of Kontakt with the sample library, so this would most likely require a higher operating system version.

Also checked with the Logic Pro experts. They said if I downloaded Kontakt 5 player it would override my #4, making the samples I use in #4 unusable. So thatís 24 hours of my life Iíll never get back.

Anyway, to salvage the lost, I emailed Kirk Hunter to see if I could make a switcheroo with a different compatible sample package. Thought since I let him use one of my piano/violin tracks for a Kirk Hunter Demo, he may give me a useable sample package. Kirk said he'd have to research the request. That was two days ago.

Can't really give them to a friend. I hold a non-transferable license.

BUMMER... Two bills bite the dust. Ha!

As one who is at macOS 10.12 - I was running Kontakt 4 and 5 at the same time without issue. Maybe I was lucky. At this point now I'm only using Kontakt 5 system in Logic Pro X.

What version of Logic are you running? 6? 7? 8? 9?

Wait until it takes you a week to install your studio setup - that's what I had to from scratch a couple of weeks ago. Took me a week to reinstall everything fresh. Sadly, I'm now running into an issue that is so arcane that I'm lucky that I know people inside Apple.

Hey Jody,

Wow, and I thought I had tech issues. Hope you get it all back in working order quickly. Making music should be enhanced by technology, not hindered. I reckon itís all about pushing out of our comfort zones. But it can be frustrating.

I have Logic 8 and using Kontakt Player 2 & 4 (on the same projects). All work well with my arsenal of samples. Some samples work with 2, others work with 4.

Iím considering purchasing a new computer with an updated OS. Though Iíd keep my old set-up as well. Two set-ups would certainly be more secure.

Best, John smile

Hi John,

Weird..my prior posts disappeared!

I'd never thought I'd say I'm so happy I have Windows 7 and it's been stable for a few years now, and I'm "off the grid" in terms of updates etc. and just use third party products for Antiv-Virus and Firewall protection..

But back to your issue..

Here is what I would do..

Backup all your projects to external media, f you haven't already..

Find out if updating your OS can be "rolled back" to before updating your OS if things don't work out with your older Logic Pro files..in Windows, this is known as "system restore" and an automatic time stamp is made before any Windows updates, so if they are installed incorrectly, you can manually send your PC "back in time" to right before the updates' installation.

I cannot imagine there is not a similar function in Mac world? It might not be called "system restore" but how could Macs exist without the ability to be sent back to a "previous state"..?

In Windows, with major OS changes, 99% of software continues to work, and the stuff that doesn't can be made to work by adjusting "compatibility" by "right clicking" on the executable (.exe) file and setting that compatibility for the OS you are certain it was functioning properly under.

Anyway..you can't even sell your license? That really sucks, and if I were running Kirk Hunters' business, I'd certainly deal with these things on a one-to-one basis..I mean..I would want your future business, and I could tell from past dealings you were not out to rip me off..maybe press the Kirk Hunter people a little?

Mike

Oh it works. However, I'm experiencing random spots where the application quits without warning. Fortunately I now have a team of people at Apple working on the case to figure out why. The only application its affecting is Logic, my workhorse. Otherwise its a stupid fast and stable computer.

The one great thing about the new version of Logic and macOS is that even when an app does crash - it usually remembers exactly where I was. Very rarely do I lose maybe 5 minutes of work. So its more of a headache than anything. Hoping it will be resolved early next week.

p.s. - the reason why it takes a week to update my system is the sheer volume of samples, plugins and other various things needed to install for producing music the way I do.

p.p.s. - Always make backups before doing any major upgrade. And always make triple backups of project data.

p.p.p.s. - Logic Pro X is the bomb and blows 8 away.

Jody: Logic 8 does the same thing. So far has always remembered where I was.

Mike: I'm still hoping Kirk Hunter comes through with an alternative package. If not, I'll consider it a $200 donation to the Kirk Hunter Foundation. laugh Probably won't try an upgrade. It's not worth the risk. I'd sooner purchase a new Mac.

Hi John:

Late again for the dance! I sure hope Mr. Hunter comes through for you. I really considered moving away from the Arranger Keyboard but learning curves, ever changing technology, operating systems and all the human error associated with downloading, etc. I've decided to "tough it out" and dance with the "one who brung me!" LOL!

Keep us posted about how it all "came out" when you have the time or inclination.

Best of luck, ----Dave

I was going to suggest you buy a new separate Mac and use both. Slowly transition to the new one for everything, with a second machine which may at some point in time be handy to have around.
