This has some vocal redo's to do and I believe drums are coming. I'm making a blues cd (for fun mostly), and have more waiting on mixing, but I wanted to get input on what works or not, vocally, musically and mixing wise, in this song. This will go through a few more changes so I wanted to get help early before we're in too deep. I know I'm not a great vocalist, but I'm trying to sound the best I can.

Josh Miller – Lead Guitar
George Schiessl – Bass
James Tanner – Vocals, Lyric

Here’s To You Baby

What you mean you’ve had enough
Oh, I’m the one who’s had it rough
You’re incessant bickering ‘s got old
Don’t care if you leave me, truth be told

Here’s to you baby
This cheer’s for you
Here’s to your leaving; please do

You can place the blame on me
but you’re just to damn blind to see
Your constant nagging’s the problem here
The reason I need me lots of beer

Here’s to you baby
This cheer’s for you
Here’s to your leaving; please do

Did you think I’d cave in to your threat?
That proves that you don’t know me yet
I’d start shaping up, if you did too
but I know you won’t, so sweet adieu

Here’s to you baby
This cheer’s for you
Here’s to your leaving; please do

Hi James:

Don't be to critical of your vocal. There is a need for the vocal to be "lifted" out of the mix a bit but it is a good "rocker/blues" tune and will certainly be a nice addition to your album once the final edits are completed. Best of luck with it and the album. Most of all, have fun with it!

Cool blues tune you've got going on here, maybe a little ZZ Top influence?

There's some awkwardness in both V1 & V2 in the 3rd line, and in addition, they're both saying pretty much the same thing. I would try to smooth out one of them and then find something else to say in the other. By the way, it takes 2 to bicker so maybe that's not the word you mean? Constant lying? Stepping out? Complaining? Trash talk? Criticizing? You could go a number of ways. The nagging wife/partner is kind of a cliche, isn't it? smile Just some thoughts.

Another meaty sound James I enjoyed the listen and am thankful I'm not the guy with the gun!

Hey James,

Just down and dirty. Great vibe and delivery. Glad I'm safely at home, as I could be down some place where I may not walk out intact.

Good tune.

cheers, niteshift

I loved this gritty song, and yea, your vocal is perfect for this, don't doubt yourself there, in fact don't be afraid to exert even a little more attitude.

Musically, a small sug in the polishing area of the mix--bring the lead guitar solos up another db or two--maybe bring the solo track up one db and the power chords down one db --letting your vocal cut through a tad better and letting the lead solo have due prominence when taking over for you the front man. I'd also like hearing the snare up a db or two with a little more snap to give that back-beat more presence.

I like the "bickering" line as you are referring to the both of you arguing which to me is understood, but agree with Ricki there could be some slight redundancy in the lyrics--but it's a hard rock song and lyrics with Rock aren't as much focused upon for sure. But it's always a good thing having verse story movement for sure.

I was listening over and over to the opening, and honestly, though creative, I think I'd just open with the drums and have the power chords enter and lose the abstract notes at early intro with this song or create something less abstract and relatable.

I took the liberty to experiment a bit here.......On your 1st verse line vocally, I'd go up with the melody note on the word "ENOUGH" to fit that D chord better--this will keep the first line from sounding too monotone IMO. Then keep 2nd line as is, going down on the line's ending as you are--this reflects the first line "lift" by a contrasting fall-balancing the melody. Later in a subsequent verse, you could start out a beginning verse line singing a higher G note on the Am chord then down on the C chord then back up on the D chord. This will IMO, give you more "movable and interesting" melody on those three chords. If you don't get what I'm saying, contact me PM if you wish. (Or just tell me to go jump in the lake, and I ain't chang'n a damn thing)! -- That will work too..........

Great gritty hard rock song, well performed, killer melody--yea dude this rocks!

I like the song. It's clear to see where you are taking your message. My negative comment concerns the well worn boogey beat and how mechanistically it binds with the drums. My suggestion would be to make the guitar "sloppier" with efx and bring up the vocals. Use some reverb etc and put your mascot guy with the gun "in a room." Maybe?

Hope that helps or makes any sense.
