Here's one I just back from Mike. I really like it. It's kindof unusual chord progression, I'm told it's called a Mixolydian. some kind of ancient mysterious music, lol.... http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11718490

You two just keep hitting your collabs out of the ballpark
Louis your spiritual lyrics are inspiring in their simplicity and sincerity and I do not think you have to believe to be moved by them
And Michael, man the combination of music and your voice make this shine. The melody moves in very interesting and beautiful ways. Top notch.
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Hi Louis:
Voorpostel has said everything I planned to say... and much more eloquently than I could. It is a powerful song covered in honesty and beautifully performed. As a mostly secular writer, I am so impressed with the message and the music. Very nice work.

Thanks Martin, Ricki, Jim, it's fascinating to see what Mike comes up with on each tune.

What a lovely song in every respect, Louis. Mike is a musical chameleon, able to take on - perfectly - the colours of any genre. Donna

Hi John V, Dave R, Martin, Ricki, Jim, Donna, and Calvin. Thanks for all the kind thoughts. Mr. Twinn writes some real gems, and I could hear greatness in this one, and giving it the production that brought out it's potential was always forefront in my mind. Glen Campbell was one of my early musical heroes, so I love baritone (acoustic) guitar solos, and basically have one playing over the entire chorus--but I keep it simple and textural, and it really felt right to me.. Thanks again, all.. Mike

Very nice Christian-Country song. Top notch production as well.
The song is very good with a solid hook 'answered the cry of my heart' - very nice indeed.
The performance and production are high quality. The only thing I thought could be a bit better was the harmonies could have been performed a bit tighter. Also, they don't gel with the lead vocal quite as well as they could have from a mix point of view. I found the lower harmony in the left channel pulling my attention off the main vocal instead of blending perfectly. Don't get me wrong - it still sounded good and just needs some minor tweaking, imo.
Overall, good tune, and excellent performance/production!
Peace, TC

Hi TC,
Thanks for the nice comments; Louis wrote a great one here and I did my best to bring out what I heard in it.
About "tightness" --I have some thoughts on this. First of all, the harmonies are idiomatic to British Folk Roots music such as Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span in that they use a lot of suspended seconds (as does Appalachian Folk), and in between (blue) notes which they borrow from the blues tradition. In Louis' chorus, both harmonies sing blue notes on the words "this" and "you" and so technically one could say these notes are "out-of-tune" but this was intentional on my part, as I wanted a tough, bluesy sound on these notes. There are a few suspended seconds as I recall, but vertically all the harmonies are pretty much on top of and synce'd to the lead vocal; and as far as pitch goes, they are mostly (except the aforementioned words) all within a ten cent deviation from any note-in-question's center. I could make jpegs and show you the "blobs" in the Melodyne GUI if you like. Why not closer?
I do dozens of takes for every phrase, then use the best ones, and then pitch correct (with Melodyne) some of them that need a tiny nudge here and there to get them "in the ballpark" --usually within a dime. I think "perfect harmonies" and perfect lead vocals tend to suck the life out of them, if not make them sound artificial, so I try to avoid that at all costs. Within ten cents accommodates 99% of the ears in the world in terms of hearing things as if they are "in tune" and they definitely sound in tune to me, and no one else has mentioned the harmonies being in need of being tighter.
Perhaps I could have attenuated the volume on them better, mixed them better, but in terms of "tightness" --if that is still about being vertically synced with the lead vocal and being harmonically "in tune" then I have to disagree cuz to me they are as tight as can be without sounding artificial.
You said the harmonies didn't "blend perfectly" and that is true. But listening to your work over time..and hearing your opinion (which I respect) here, that they could be even tighter..I have to think that perhaps we have different philosophies about how close to "perfect" the vocals need to be, to find them tuneful.
Mike

Ah heck you guys !
That just works so well.
Knowing you both independently, and then putting 1 + 1 together, it ends up well, well, above a 3.
That's something unique. Nothing is overbearing, and the prosody is just spot on.
Keep 'em coming.
cheers, niteshift

Sounding good guys. Verses sound "Country", but the chorus leans more toward "Pop". Well done! Best, John
