[color:#FF0000][size:14pt]Lyric Video - The St. Louis Blues As one of the most popular public domain songs St Louis blues has been recorded by hundreds of artists with incredibly varied arrangements - many of great renown. We decided to do a boogie boogie version of it
one that we could imagine folks jitter bugging or lindy hopping to in the 1930s and 40s. We rewrote/tweaked some of the lyric to reflect a womans perspective and to come up with a cleaner version than the original (trust me!). Interestingly this has to be a very early appearance of the bridge. Initially we had rhythm guitars, bass and drum tracks but everything seemed to be competing with the piano. The piano left hand is really nailing a good bass line and without playing it myself I dont think I could come with something that wouldnt step on the piano. After removing the bass I decided to just go as basic as possible and kept removing. So imagine, say Marcia Ball, playing/singing and a fine country fiddler walks by and sees a light on
Having a little fun with the public domain treasure trove.... Comments are always both welcomed and appreciated. J&B For the technical minded: Vocal: Rodes NT1 mic > Focusrite Scarlett 212 > Logic Pro. Effects via Nectar 2 Piano: BiaB "Super Midi Piano" 40s Boogie Rhythm. Rendered to midi/Logic Pro X Yamaha Grand sound/Alloy 2/EMT Plate Sim Reverb (minimalist solo comped from multiple generations of the rhythm track) Fiddle: BiaB RealTrack Solo with EMT Plate Sim Reverb Fiddle Rhythm: BiaB RealTrackwith EMT Plate Sim Reverb Mixed in Logic Pro X and mastered with Ozone 6.

It's amazing how a good song can be performed in many ways. Once more, talent and musicality demonstrate this fact. Thanks, you two... for entertainment to the max. ----Dave

I agree with all that's been said above and I double down on the compliments. Super singing and the arrangement is just too cool. Just a fun, enjoyable listen.

Nicely done J&B ... I have to say that Janice has one of the finest voices on any of the music sites that I frequent (Reverbnation, Soundcloud, etc) ... she always knocks it out of the park regardless of the genre!

Hi Janice and Bud, This really swings hard. I love the vocals and clean production. I had to wonder if Janice was one of Dan Hicks' "Hot Licks" (in one of their later incarnations) while I was listening. This is a really great version of the standard--easily my favorite. Mike

Hey J & B,
A rockin' jitterbuggy...swinging.... asleep at the wheel ..groove. It had me bouncing and boogying (is that a word) across the room... Technically, I'd pull back just a tad on the vocal verb to bring Janice back into the mix....
Great track!

Why thank you mr jane! J&B very traditional and very clever. liked it very much. is this your primary style? Thanks for listening and commenting! We played traditional bluegrass for years but have moved toward a more Americana sound that leans toward the blues...or at least I think so

Thanks! Interestingly the "peaches" lines that we used were appropriated by the original writer from a version of "sitting on top of the world!" Sooooo many of those early blues songs often have the same or identical lines. Glad you liked the tune! J&B Hey J & B,

iggy2 Thanks -- glad it gotcha moving. I confess to being guilty of frequently getting Janice a couple of db's up. I've got a new version of Ozone and at some point will remaster our more recent songs.. I'll give it a close listen when it comes around. Thanks again for the listen and comments. J&B
