Hey All,

Came across Somewhere Over the Rainbow the other day.

I remember it from classes in composition and I believe it's still being used today for that purpose.

The lesson was in how to arrange a track, given a simple melody line and the fit between that melody line and the backing.

Then it can be brought up a notch simply because of the chording and transitions used originally.

The "perfect" song ? Perhaps, or perhaps not, but certainly a solid instruction in composition.

Here's Tommy Emmanuel's version which you'll see in the master classes he does..... I don't even think I can count the transitions to the bar. smile

So, put up another version you may have heard, or another track which has the same simplicity and complexity at the same time.

Can it be beaten as a learning piece in composition ?

cheers, niteshift

I'm into vintage sounds, a well crafted melody, etc., how about this one:

I did a simple instrumental cover of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" for a Taxi listing at one point. It's a great song to play. Love the movie too! http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.php?artist=kolstad
