If you are a "member" and are reading this...Then look a little bit to your right...

There is a yellow "Donate" button....

....The navigation is easy once you click it...

It will take 5 minutes of your time...

JPF has been our "hitching post" for over a decade...

$$$...?

5..10..20......Any and all would be good!!!!

Speaking as a JPF Donation Slacker over the last few years, I realized today, that I've been remiss...

I have spent untold hours here, taking for granted that JPF would always be around...Muses Muse anyone???

My bad!!!!

I clicked that yellow "donate" button today for the first time in a long time....

Free Speach is always free...No one's gonna stop ya!

But if you wanna keep speaking here, on JPF....

Please...Take a moment before you post again, and click that little yellow button...

Easey-peasey.....

JPF is our outlet...

Bill Gates and Google don't run it...

Brian Austin Whitney created it and has been keeping it going with duct tape...

And since the time that Brian created JPF, he...AND us JPFer's have become wealthy!!!

Not wealthy with $$$$....

Wealthy with experiences that matter....

...Click that yellow button:-)

Thanks, Brian

I normally donate at the end of each year or beginning of the next.
Did I forget?

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Hi Vican,

At the top of each Forum there's the JPF donations honor roll. You can check there to verify:-)....My name hasn't been on there for a while:-(, so I started this thread to remind myself!

Thanks to all who understand!

Thanks to those who donated. You motivated yourself and two others to donate 120 bucks.. I appreciate it. We desperately to completely transition this board to the current version. This hasn't been update since about 2004. It no longer allows new sign ups which sucks bad. So every little bit helps.

I am still sad about Muses Muse. To be honest, right now we have no sponsors so for the first time in over 30 years JPF is running 100% deficit with about 30K in Music Awards related costs still to go (in addition to about 6K I have already spent). I committed to it when we had 3 sponsors... now with zero for the first time, we need the help. I've thought about doing a fundraising thing but the lack of support here, even from the most active users, is discouraging. If we can update this (about 3K) then it will be interactive with all social media which should bring in a lot of new folks.

Also better security so I won't get 1000 FAKE sign ups every day. (There's a back log of about 100K sign ups with perhaps 100 legitimate ones hopelessly buried.

Bump...

Nice suggestions, Dave! Seriously! But naw...:-)

With over 50,000 Members here, all we have to do is click on that little yellow button.....

One Member at a time...

And from the time I first posted this til now, only THREE of the 50,000 have clicked on the little yellow button...

All JPF needs, is for a small percentage of the 50,000 folks to click on the yellow button..

Easey-Peasey....

BUMP, again...

Three contributors since I first posted this...

And since that time, on various JPF threads, there have been:

"Thirteen hundred and fifty-two JPFers posting"

My apologies to John Sebastian....

BAW has told me through e-mails that I'm fighting a losing battle...

I am choosing NOT to believe him!!!

So, please! Once, just this once, help me to prove Brian wrong!!!!!

Help me to convince Brian that JPFers really do give a sh!t!!!

Click that little YELLOW DONATE BUTTON to your right...And toss in a dollar or two to prove Brian wrong!!!

Please don't leave me with nothing but the sound of crickets.

I'm begging you!!!

Midnite

P.S.

MAB? I'm sending you a p.m. because I know you'll understand:-)

P.P.S. To all and anyone who has EVER used JPF to promote your band or services...Or just came here for advice and the gathering of knowledge, and hope that you and others can continue on JPF...Please, don't take JPF for granted!!!

Thanks, ALL

Well Midnite, I have to say that I really admire your drive and tenacity.

Although I haven't been on JPF for a fair while, being occupied with my project, (pimping mine and Helen's small (two roomed flat) to give her some quality of life after having her leg amputated, I still almost every day read the posts and follow what's happening.

By the way, I have finished the pimping now and will be doing a video (filming part) this weekend for youtube. Then the editing of course. Then I will get back into some songwriting, if I haven't lost my mojo by now...lol

But I digress from the purpose of this thread and as I said, I really admire your drive and tenacity Midnite. (So much so that I have just made a second donation since this thread appeared). Sure I can't afford it if I count the cash in my pockets and add in any nest egg that we have, OMG that's a laugh... nest egg....ummm. But I do honestly believe that this site is so good that it deserves to go on.

I have done facebook and I have done twitter and all the rest, and while I have left those sites, I am still here and will remain so. That's not to say that the others mentioned are not good, they are, but for me they don't hold there own against JPF.

I have made friends, co-wrote with many many people, had my nose put out of joint a few times of course, lol, but still Its a great place to be.

Sure there are those who seem to be intent on pulling the place down and some are almost as close to being trolls as you can get, but still some great members and the MUSIC goes on and on and on.

Anyway that's my input and I won't be getting involved in any debate on what I say, as life is too short.

I do wonder if you are banging your nose against the wall Midnite and I really hope that it's not so, but in the meanwhile, keep going on as we did with Brexit (had to add that bit in lol).

God Bless Roy and Helen

and to all my friends that I have made on JPF God Bless from me and Helen

Quite right Midnite !

Without JPF, I'd still be a songwriting bum. Oh, um..... by my last royalty statement, I still am..... blush

But at least I am getting royalties, and would never have gone back to this crazy game without JPF and the advice and support it provides from the other crazy songwriter bums. smile

You just got my $50 bucks, and it's simply a small donation in relation to the psychiatrist bills I would otherwise be paying without music in my life. smile

So, if you've gained one ounce of knowledge here, or had one person relate to your song, when everyone else thought you were crazy, ...... then cough up a few bucks and keep the train on the tracks. smile

cheers, niteshift

Hey Brian,

I'm no expert here on this but thought "Couldn't hurt, could it?". I mean, I've seen a few of those that collected money for far less admirable reasons. Not to mention, with the right "social media street team" you could draw a far larger audience to the cause including those who just appreciate music and the art of making it.
'Twas only a thought though. I donated and will continue to do so regardless of where the little yellow button is.

Hey Midnight and Brian. We all need to be reminded of the things we benefit from and for being part of something larger than ourselves. I'll get right on sending something in. Thanks for the reminder.

Sadly, I guess I have to concede to Brian.

Over 1,000 "views".. Less than 12 little yellow button clicks.

Thanks to those who did!!!

Bowing out now...

Taking "the glass is half full" position, that's 12 more donations than there would have been, without your efforts, Bob. Good for you! smile

Thanks,

Ricki.. Dealing with hurricane Matthew all day. Power out for 8 hours and counting. Probably another 12 hours before it's restored. Generator running til the gas runs out... But enough about me:-)

Love you and your glass half full Spirit:-)

But your math sucks.XOXOX!!!!

Over 1,000 "views"

Less than 12 little yellow button clicks.

That ain't a glass half full by any means however anyone wants to do the math.

Love ya!!!

Thanks for chiming in:-)

Yeah, well...about those "views". I question how that works. I have some songs with over 1200 "views" and I seriously doubt those are actual people viewing. Maybe Brian can explain how those "views" are tallied. Anyway, there will always be those who take advantage and use things up until they're gone and feel that they deserve everything for free. They know who they are and feel little to no shame. First to complain and last to offer solutions, blah, blah, blah...but still, 12 more than there would have been. I'm just glad my conscience still functions to keep me in check. smile

I vow to help keep this post toward the top of the list. Maybe a little more badgering will wear them down. Stay safe and dry.

I find this fundraising effort to be completely insulting. Who fundraises in this manner, by denigrating the very people you’re hoping to get money from?

The fundraising note that went out onto the political forum was particularly disgraceful, though the "RIP Brian" was quite vile. My heart literally sank, thinking Brian had died! When I saw that he had not died, do you think my first thought was, "I better give money to JPF?" No, my first thought was, "this makes me never want to give another dime."

Why the "RIP Brian" thread has not been removed is beyond me.

Everyone has a different financial situation, and a different threshold for giving, that should be respected. People should not be browbeaten or tricked into giving money; they should be encouraged and enticed to give money.

You may have a member who feels he can’t give a dime, because he’s worried about feeding himself, but then may leave you any leftover money he has in his will. Your payoff may come off 20 years down the road, after he dies.

Who knows?

You may have someone who will win the lottery and give JPF a big chunk of it.
You may have someone who gets an inheritance, and thinks of you and gives money. There are many fundraising scenarios that can occur.

But, if you continually hound people in this manner, insult them mercilessly, or trick them, then they are going to get a sour taste in their mouth and turn away.

Some people obviously don't mind being browbeaten, but I would bet money that the majority don't like it.

You may also have some people who will never give a dime.
But so what?
They click on your site and drive up your numbers, so you can go to advertisers and say, “see how much traffic I have here?”

Plus, many musicians on this site give very generously of their time and expertise, and that seems to count as absolutely nothing in this disrespectful sham of a fundraising effort.

What in the world is going on here?

2008 seemed to draw a lot of donations.
What happened in 2008?
Try to replicate that.

Lisa

P.S. For the record, there have been 6 donations since this public shaming began, not 12.

Thanks, Ricki. And others who understand why I seem like such a dimpweed about this:-)

And for what it's worth, thank you for asking:-) Hurricane Matthew has left me and mine with no power for over thirty hours. Flash flooding and one gas generator powering everything....But enough about me:-) "little yellow button" xoxox

Gosh, Midnite, no ... I don't pick and choose much.

I last commented here several weeks ago, shortly after you blasted "folks" on the political forum, ranting about the "political hypocrites" and "blowhards" and calling out people who you don't believe have ever donated. (And how would you even know if they've never donated anyway?)

I came back to comment on some lyrics, and here you are, acting self-righteous (since you bring up that word, let's use it on the right person), about other people's donations, or lack thereof.

Lisa,

The key word is "The Polical Forum". In regards to why I "blasted" there.

The "key word" was "free speech"....

JPFer's on the Political Forum who enjoyed free speech while complaining about government "hand outs".

So I tried to call them out on the hypocracy.

"Free Speechh" on some else's dime while claiming "free speech" without tossing even $10 into the JPF Kitty???

And that's where I have my issue. I apologize, because I know that I haven't been able to explain it well.

"Free speech" is always free in any given backyard, or on various other websites. But I'm NOT concerned about other websites.

ALL I'm trying to do is raise awareness, that here, on JPFolks, please don't take "free speech"' for granted.

That's all I'm asking.

My bad???

Probably so....

I'll leave it for others to judge....

JPF "Honor Roll" at the top page of every Forum!!!...

Dayum... Power out now for over 60 hours, but the water kicked back in:-) We can't shower with warm water, but at least we can poop and flush:-))))

P.S. Thanks, Lisa, for taking the time to correctly "spell-check" and always spell "Midnite" right. That courtesy, and effort, is a very admirable trait on your part, and hasn't gone unnoticed:-)

Midnite,

The donation honor roll list only goes back to 2008. I gave what I considered to be a generous donation prior to that, and never received any kind of thank you or acknowledgment. There are reasons people have for giving or not giving. We often don't know another's history.

Also, free speech, in the political sense, means only that the government doesn't infringe on the free speech rights of its citizens. It does not pertain to organizations or businesses. Brian, in fact, has always made a point of saying that this is his site, and free speech does not pertain here, and he can censor anyone he wishes. Brian is right about that, too.

If I were to call myself "Midnite," I would spell it the way you do, too. It's cooler looking.

I won't donate to JPF as long as people remain anonymous. Their username should be their first and last name. Own your words. Their is a lot of people posting ridiculous things using anonymous names. I don't support that.

Midnite & Lisa,

Don't want to get into the middle of things here, but, for the record... Lisa has a valid point. I made a contribution in the last year (cash mailed to Brian) and did not "make the list". I don't mind that - and would not have brought it up under normal circumstances - but thought it needed to be noted for this discussion...

And, for the record... y'all are 2 of my favorite JPFers...

I agree Lisa. Most of my money goes to ostomy supplies and medications. These are not cheap. It's in the hundreds of dollars per month. And then I have bills. And then food. I don't have money to be donating all that much. Maybe once every few months I would but I don't like how people can post anonymously so why donate to a site that enables trolls

My real name is Robert M. Gustafson
My cell phone # is 919-607-8112.

But if you Google "Robert Gustafson", you won't
find me.....You will find doctors and dentists, but you will NOT find "Midnite Bob"

Google a little bit more...You will find "Midnitebob" the songwriter, not the Bob Marley 'tribute". band called "Midnite" before calling me a troll.

good heaven

Where have I ever been obtuse in this, specific!!! Thread that I started?

Like Lisa and Floyd, my prior donation went unacknowledged... not my latest though. I never mentioned it because, although it did not go unnoticed by me, the recognition was not why I did it.

So I add it now because there are now three known and probably more folks out there who experienced the same thing....so perhaps there are some folks out there not willing to donate the cash in addition to the other non cash contributions they make.

Don't think it was intentional ommission or anything, just that Brian may have been busy or perhaps unorganized or he was laid up...who knows.

All in all, I did contribute because I feel JPF has helped me immensely since I joined and I would not be anywhere near the writer I am, nor would I have made so many valuable on line connections as I have.

If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

No, you see, the rest of us have our full names as our usernames.
When Brian made that mandatory I changed mine because I wanted to abide by common courtesy and the rules. Everybody's username should be their full name so they own their words instead of hiding behind a nickname when they are talking smack.
I don't expect these people to change their names because it's not in their character to be fair.

And midnighbob if you want to show people how much you care about JPF why don't you follow the rules and use your full name. Either as your username or under your post. That is if you're fair and rule abiding. After all you're not above us, are you?

Aaron,

For 30 years, my legal name was Robert Gustafson. I was usually called "Gus".

For 20 years, my legal name was Robert Watson. "Watson" was my wife's last name and was easier to live with on a day to day basis.

For the last 10 years, I am back, legally, to Robert Gustafson.

For the last 15 years, I've been known, to all friends, as Midnite Bob.

Google Robert Gustafson....It will take hours before you find me.

Google Robert Watson....Chances are, you will never find me.

Google "Midnite Bob" and you'll find me on the first page.

Using "Midnite Bob" as my user name is my attempt to avoid anonymity, not an avoidance.

Feel free to keep on flaming out in your self-righteousness....

As for ALL others.... Thanks for following along on this thread, and finding the little "Yellow Button"....Your $ contributions have been appreciated. Your thoughts and "clarifications" more so as we go onward..."All in this together".

THANK YOU from every inch of me heart!!!!

It has now been three days without power or hot water here, due to hurricane Matthew.....Bunch of trips to the gas station to keep the generator running. One trip into the scary crawl space to rewire the water heater to "120" instead of "240". It might work. It might not...But seems to be:-)

Midnite

P.S... Feel free to click on the only link in my "signature"...

The film company is now defunct....But two films that they produced were written by either Robert Gustafson, or "Midnite Bob"....Trust me, this "Witness Protection Program"' get's complicated sometimes.....:-)

Lisa? It was on a "Fat Tuesday"...in a bodunct bar with a band I had recently formed as a total out of towner...

I asked "Does anyone know what time it is?

Someone hollered out "It's midnight Bob"

My band mates insisted that I continue to spell "Midnight" wrong....

Onward....

And thanks!!!

Those are real views. Keep in mind most of our traffic historically hasn't been registered which means they can read but can't respond. But for over a year, the board has been broken so that people CAN'T sign up at all so all they can do is read. Often traffic comes in via searches so some topics draw due to content, others are simply views by people surfing the site.

If you question it, try clicking and reclicking your own page. You won't see the number go up accordingly because it's unique visits to your page. So those really are real clicks to your post. It doesn't mean they ever come back, it simply means they landed on your page for any number of reasons.

As for getting people to donate, heck there's people who post here nearly every day and have for decades and have never donated a penny. That's just reality. But thanks to the few that stepped up after Bob's efforts, I am going to use that money and the rest out of pocket to update the board. It is so very long overdue, but I am truly appreciative of those who DO support us (and as you can look for yourself, have for many years) and you guys deserve an up to date board. There are tech problems that must be solved so it won't be immediate, but I have already hired someone and he's helping me figure out what we need to do. There are a few bells and whistles that we can't afford to add, but at least people will be able to register and we can start adding new people again for the first time since spring of 2015.

So sincere thanks to Bob and others for their support. And it isn't too late for anyone else who wants to help. All the money is going directly back into this board, so if you want more stuff (and more traffic, we do amazingly well for a board that hasn't had a single update since 2006) drop a little bread in the jar so to speak.

Thanks again!

Brian

Lisa,

Though it is true that free speech doesn't apply to a privately owned website, the point of that is if something is particularly horrible, I do not feel the need to leave it in place. That said, I haven't removed anyone's text (i.e. "censorship") in a decade or more. That was usually only done when the same trolls from the same site came here under many different user names and launched vile attacks on people. Ironically, I never removed a single criticism of myself, attack on me, no matter how vile, or anything political unless people mutually agreed it was best to remove it (meaning the people involved in the posts). Often it was for THEIR good, not mine, that it was removed. And the real point of people having a place to post questions, discussions and their work is about feedback, not offensive posts in need of censorship. People focus way too much on censorship when talking about speech. We've tried hard for many years to keep this troll free and supportive for the widest talent levels and experience levels we can. That's what it is about, not the occasional words from a troll that need to be handled in some way. I haven't stopped anyone on the political board, I just moved it off the general board where it was drowning everything. It has it's home, enter at your own risk.

As for your donation, we did in fact acknowledge you just like everyone else who made a donation. Your name is listed right there on the bottom of the 2013 donations. I looked on Paypal, there were no other donations in your name, so I don't know what you are referring to.

As to why we had so many more donations earlier on, it is because I was actively touring around the USA, Canada and Europe, non stop most of those years and people who came out to events we held often used Paypal to make donations because they didn't have cash with them at the time and this was all Pre-Square and other ways people could use credit. So that was the only way. Things dropped off after I started having strokes and couldn't tour so I was in contact with far less people at that point. And we only started posting this Honor Roll when we actually HAD a donation button Before that date, we had no method to donate outside of cash at live events which usually added up to quite a lot between donations and T-Shirt/Hat sales.

It seemed to me a global post where your name is recognized for years (or a decade at this point) by a huge number of visitors was a nice way to recognize folks.

As for Bob's posts, I didn't ask him to do it and even told him not to bother as it wouldn't work. The folks who have donated are mostly the same few that ALWAYS donate (with a few happy exceptions) but without their contributions, I couldn't have justified keeping this board going. And thanks to the 7 extra recent donations, I am able to add to them and finally do an upgrade on the boards which will re-open us up to new sign ups for the first time in over a year. It will also offer some nice new features which might be more fun for all. So thanks to Bob for trying something. If you disagree with what he said, no one stopped you from doing it differently. And if you weren't going to donate anything anyway, why do you care about his efforts in the first place? He tried to help and succeeded versus doing nothing at all. It is much appreciated.

And for the record, I was a bit stunned by the RIP Brian message. As someone with a myriad of dangerous health problems, there's no doubt that real message will come around eventually. So I was in no hurry to see it while I am still ticking. I just hope it was significantly premature.
