Hi Midnite, In the last 24 hours..off the top of my head A total stranger, a nice looking woman in her forties, gave me a big smile and said "hi" this morning, on my way to the store. My roommate, realizing I've got a bad cold, gave me some cough drops, and told me how much he enjoyed a movie "The Lobster" I recommended to him. Another friend emailed me a fun email that mentioned Joni Mitchell and we had a nice exchange about "The Hissing Of Summer Lawns" and that era of Joni.. My cousin sent me several pictures of my dad when he was really young, and I had never seen any pictures of him any younger than his early twenties. I listened to Marc Maron interview Werner Herzog ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hKcV6UXENA ) who talked about Klaus Kinski's perfectionism and his new documentary about the Internet, in which he describes a scene where a bunch of Zen Monks in Tibet were Tweeting and Facebooking on their mobile devices..this interview gave me several smiles. --As did finishing up a couple Netflix series' "Stranger Things" and "Lady Dynamite" --and I've been sick since Wednesday, so I didn't feel any guilt about taking it easy. In fact, I think it was a mini epiphany when I realized that the world would not come to an end if I didn't work on music demos for one day, while sick. This really made me smile big time--a rare moment where I was generously kind to myself! Mike

okay I'll bite
The MC at the open mic tonight....the guy who rarely says 3 words to me beyond announcing my set gave me a big compliment on one of my songs.... Told everyone they should have been listening close to some of the thoughts in it...spouting words and phrases from it. just when I think he's not even paying attention... (oh me of little faith)

My wife, Sherri got us VIP passes to see Brian Wilson in concert celebrating the 50 year anniversary of Pet Sounds. Got to meet Brian in person. He signed my CD, "One Man's Spiritual Journey" and even accepted a copy as a gift. Not sure what Asheville, NC. dumpster it resides in now but it was worth a shot. And Sherri did all this for me on her own birthday. Brian Wilson is my biggest influence as a composer and producer. For me it was like meeting Mozart or Michelangelo face to face. How's that for something kind and positive, Bob?
Also in the pic are Beach Boys, Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin.

Well, If You Must Know! Now Midnite, my wife and I have been married going on 53 yeas now. Now Midnite, I give in, stretch the budget, go when I don't really don't want to, do plenty of small things to keep the peace, am nice , bight the bullet, etc, etc, etc! Well yesterday she went beyond the pale midnite! Now midnite there are some things are sacred, out of bounds and off limits! Well my wife, bless her little pea pickin' heart had the nerve, had the nerve, I tell you, to tell me she want's the Buckeye Plate that is on my vehicle! She, (We) got a new Honda CRV so she could have a new car to take a trip to her 60's High school Reunion. But is she satisfied! No, I tell you no! Well I gave in once again and went Online and found her a Buckeye Plate for the new CRV. Well I try to go along midnite.

Here's something positive for you Midnite...
New single released today: Thump Thump Thump
Enjoy! Thanks, Jody. And enjoy it I did! Your production always fits your lyrics and intent so very well. And thanks to all who brightened a long day!!! And hey, Mike Z? Ain't it a shame that we always seem to have to be actually sick in order to justify a "sick day"? As for me, I got home, after a long work day when I first posted this. The drive had been rather unpleasant and my mood wasn't the best. But I got out of my car and was loading things from the car into my work backpack when I heard "Bob Bob Bob". One of the little girls across the street, a 4 y/o with Down's Syndrome, came running across the street and jumped up into my arms. Everything suddenly got brighter:-) Midnite Midnite

Always good to be reminded that in the course of a day any manner of fine - and unexpected - things can happen. Most recently, before they left this morning my guests (I provide an AirBnB private room), told me how much they'd enjoyed being in my home (they were here for 2 nights). They invited me to stay at their home if I ever plan to visit Atlanta, Georgia. I'd love to visit Georgia. Wonderful to think I now know someone there. I can imagine how uplifted that little girl made you feel, Bob. Last week I happened to be Skyping with my daughter-in-law's mother (Marjorie) in Victoria (Vancouver Island). During our conversation she walked down to the ground level section of her house, which is rented out to a young widow and her two small children. On seeing me on the iPad (which Marjorie had turned outwards so she could show me the downstairs part of the house), the 4-year-old (James) rushed over, fascinated, and began to address me. After learning my name, he kept repeating it to get it right. He then asked me all kinds of questions, prefacing each one with my name. Then he rushed off to gather up his favourite toys to bring back and show me. Then it was more questions, each prefaced by 'Donna', as if we were two adults. And each time I answered, the little guy was a captive audience. He was so bright and full of enthusiasm. I still chuckle when I remember him peering at me on the iPad screen, and - quite visibly - searching in his mind for the next breathless question, prefaced by 'Donna'.

I was outside mowing the lawn a week or so ago when I mowed over a pile of what I think was dog turd laying in the middle of our boulevard...the space between our sidewalk and the roadway
Now we do have raccoons in the area, but they are shy about defecating out in the open on boulevards, and it was a pretty big pile (I saw it at the last second as it disappeared under the deck of my mower and hit the rapidly spinning blade), so I think it was a dog...and my anger was not letting go from the thought it was some rude person who had brazenly allowed their dog to do this without scooping as our local bylaw demands.
Even though the damage was minimal due to the fact I have a mulching mower, I was still a bit steamed when I was done, to the point I just had to complain to my neighbour who was outside with his 8 year old son and who had come over to chat as I was putting the mower away.
Thomas, the eight year old, is a bright and active kid, always friendly. He blew me away when, after hearing me complain, wisely said..
"Sometimes you have to forget people do bad things and just love them"
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Curious how few posts this received, compared to some other ones... Yeppers, Ricki, ya caught me & my statistical experiment out!!!! I also posted a "music" related thread regarding The Wolfe Tones.... Results: Music and "positive" threads: A handful or two of responses.... Politically Inspired Threads: A HUGE BUTTLOAD of responses.... At least I now have statistical data as to what matters most to JPFer's here on this "Music Site"...... My "take away"???? Political Threads encourage nothing except deviciveness...Agendas that never actually change anyone's mind...I have come to think of them as "Me-right-you wrong-verbal masturbation"...The only one who is ever truly satisfied by any is the one who is "verbally masturbating"...Always have. Always will...... But hey, that's just my(very consistent, over the years of observation)opinion.... AND YES, ya'll...I truly appreciate the honest questions that some try to throw into the "political" discussions!!! But my statistical shows...... .....Wait for it..... Yer wasting yer time!!!....Both Right & Left and Center, regardless of what continent and time zone you live in.... "We're all in this together".....Golly, where have I heard that before???? "Musically"...I like to think so... "Politically"...Not a chance... End rant....Xoxox Midnite

There you go Bob.
A new Instagram account is out to put a spotlight on random acts of kindness. Spot The Kindness says, “There’s a whole world of good people doing good things out there, and finally somebody’s putting those people on blast.” #SpotTheKindness is a user based platform where anyone can have their image featured. Whether it’s helping an old lady across the street, or buying lunch for a homeless person, people want to see pictures and videos that remind them that kindness really does exist.
Here’s how it works: Step 1) Do something awesome. Step 2) Take a photo Step 3) Post it on Instagram with the hashtag #spotthekindness or send it to spotthekindness@gmail.com.
Do something good and become internet famous. Sounds like a win win.

Mango Powerade is the best Powerade. Hey Aaron, Mango tastes the best....No argument!!! But my "mango" experiences have shown me a really high sugar content, so I had to back off and am still experimenting . Midnite

I heard of a sugar free Powerade but I've never seen one. It's funny how they've been most concerned about cutting the calories down and they do nothing about the sugar which is probably the unhealthiest substance there is. The G2 Gatorade has about 16 grams of sugar. Powerade has almost 50 grams. If the Powerade had 16 grams per bottle that'd be perfect.

But JPF is already established as a "music" site.... ....So how's about we spin it, without worrying about becoming Internet famous... How's about someone starting a new thread here and call it: Spot the music....??? And yes, my friend, IMHO.... ....Over the years, you have been extremely supportive of any thread that "spots the music".....And I thank you for that!!!! Midnite

Several years back Dutch researchers found that people actually needed to fart---holding it in was not as healthy as just letting them rip.
So next time you can rest assured you are doing it to keep your health up.

Guy walks into a patent office
"Let's see what you got there" says the patent lawyer
Guy proudly pulls out a square piece of plastic and says "This is a folding bottle. I call it a fottle."
Patent lawyer says "Mmmm, not sure. Got anything else?"
Guy pulls out another square piece of plastic and says "This is a folding carton. I call it a farton"
"Man that is worse than the fottle" says the patent lawyer.
Guy asks "Any chance you want to see my folding bucket?"

You started it, Ricki. On the sublime topic of farting, I've recently read a hilarious and immensely informative book - The Etymologicon - by Mark Forsyth. He's an etymologist, and a skilled writer, who has studied the origin of words in the English language. The history of many of them is amazing and amusing, and of course includes fart', and related 17th-century anecdotes. I highly recommend this book (and Forsyth's others) to anyone who has any interest at all in words and language. Actually, downloading and reading his books have been part of the good things that I've exerienced in the last few days.

On a more mundane level, I spent last evening resetting my phone to factory specs and reinstalling all the apps and data. I am pleased to report that it went from crawling to flying along the information highway and the battery charge is again holding up like it should. I have no idea what messed it up but it was well worth the time to fix it.

Oh my Goodness!!!
After a decade, I left Washington, DC in 2009...
But during my decade there I joined a kind-hearted church..
They are, to this day, very dear to my heart...
And this morning....
One of their members went into "Labor"...
There was a C-section involved...
The baby, Isaac, was born healthy!!!
Mama had some complications....Emergency procedures were involved!!!!
And now?
Isaac and Mama are both doing fine!!!!
Oh, yeah....
I'm feeling very positive at this moment!!!!!!
Thanks Brian Austin Whitney, for keeping JPF running with duct-tape long enough for me to post this!!!!

Hey All,
Earlier today, I found a "bundle" of envelopes that I have carried with me through 30 years of bouncing around the U.S.A.
Inside of those envelopes were "fountain pen" writing on paper, stamps were on the envelopes....From my only "Playwrighting" Mentor from back in 1981-1983....
I was a nobody, moving from Detroit to Chicago to try to make it as a playwright...
My Mentor's name is Steve Carter...
I've tried to track him down over the years, and failed...Figuring that Steve Carter, the playwright had died.
But I found those hand-written letters, and made it a mission of mine to track finally track him down...Figuring that he was long dead...But I needed to say "Thanks"...
Happy ending!!!
6 hours later, with some in-depth internet research:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Carter_(playwright)
And what I learned today, through a variety of research:
My Playwrighting Mentor, Steve Carter, is still alive, at the age of 86!
He is now living in Texas, where an inner-city Theatre Group is doing their best to present "live" plays...
Steve Carter is one of the Theatre Group's inspirations...
I "connected", today, via "Facebook", with the Theatre Group's" Founder...And yes, I am leaving his name out of this on purpose....
Bottom Line:
Live, Local, Theatre that still continues with no hope of $$$$...Because, after all, you'll never see NY...But over my years....I've seen dozens like you...Writing, gathering actors, working your collective asses off...Rewriting through rehearsals...All in an effort to give one "Performance That Matter" to an audience of 20...
May Heaven Bless you!!....You have to bring in at least 5 actors, who will work for peanuts...
Whoops...I know I'm rambling....
I'll try to sum-up....
I learned
That my playwrighting Mentor is not dead...
...He is only 86 years old...
And that others are carrying on!!!!
Something Positive?
I found a bundle of hand-written letters in my attic today:-)

Just read this and I thought some of you might enjoy it. -Mike
From a flight attendant on Delta Flight 15, written following 9-11:
On the morning of Tuesday, September 11, we were about 5 hours out of Frankfurt, flying over the North Atlantic.
All of a sudden the curtains parted and I was told to go to the cockpit, immediately, to see the captain.
As soon as I got there I noticed that the crew had that “All Business” look on their faces. The captain handed me a printed message. It was from Delta’s main office in Atlanta and simply read, “All airways over the Continental United States are closed to commercial air traffic. Land ASAP at the nearest airport. Advise your destination.”
No one said a word about what this could mean. We knew it was a serious situation and we needed to find terra firma quickly. The captain determined that the nearest airport was 400 miles behind us in Gander, Newfoundland.
He requested approval for a route change from the Canadian traffic controller and approval was granted immediately — no questions asked. We found out later, of course, why there was no hesitation in approving our request.
While the flight crew prepared the airplane for landing, another message arrived from Atlanta telling us about some terrorist activity in the New York area. A few minutes later word came in about the hijackings.
We decided to LIE to the passengers while we were still in the air. We told them the plane had a simple instrument problem and that we needed to land at the nearest airport in Gander, Newfoundland, to have it checked out.
We promised to give more information after landing in Gander. There was much grumbling among the passengers, but that’s nothing new! Forty minutes later, we landed in Gander. Local time at Gander was 12:30 PM …. that’s 11:00 AM EST.
There were already about 20 other airplanes on the ground from all over the world that had taken this detour on their way to the US.
After we parked on the ramp, the captain made the following announcement: “Ladies and gentlemen, you must be wondering if all these airplanes around us have the same instrument problem as we have. The reality is that we are here for another reason.”
Then he went on to explain the little bit we knew about the situation in the US. There were loud gasps and stares of disbelief. The captain informed passengers that Ground control in Gander told us to stay put.
The Canadian Government was in charge of our situation and no one was allowed to get off the aircraft. No one on the ground was allowed to come near any of the air crafts. Only airport police would come around periodically, look us over and go on to the next airplane.
In the next hour or so more planes landed and Gander ended up with 53 airplanes from all over the world, 27 of which were US commercial jets.
Meanwhile, bits of news started to come in over the aircraft radio and for the first time we learned that airplanes were flown into the World Trade Center in New York and into the Pentagon in DC.
People were trying to use their cell phones, but were unable to connect due to a different cell system in Canada . Some did get through, but were only able to get to the Canadian operator who would tell them that the lines to the U.S. were either blocked or jammed.
Sometime in the evening the news filtered to us that the World Trade Center buildings had collapsed and that a fourth hijacking had resulted in a crash. By now the passengers were emotionally and physically exhausted, not to mention frightened, but everyone stayed amazingly calm.
We had only to look out the window at the 52 other stranded aircraft to realize that we were not the only ones in this predicament.
We had been told earlier that they would be allowing people off the planes one plane at a time. At 6 PM, Gander airport told us that our turn to deplane would be 11 am the next morning.
Passengers were not happy, but they simply resigned themselves to this news without much noise and started to prepare themselves to spend the night on the airplane.
Gander had promised us medical attention, if needed, water, and lavatory servicing.
And they were true to their word.
Fortunately we had no medical situations to worry about. We did have a young lady who was 33 weeks into her pregnancy. We took REALLY good care of her. The night passed without incident despite the uncomfortable sleeping arrangements.
About 10:30 on the morning of the 12th a convoy of school buses showed up. We got off the plane and were taken to the terminal where we went through Immigration and Customs and then had to register with the Red Cross.
After that we (the crew) were separated from the passengers and were taken in vans to a small hotel.
We had no idea where our passengers were going. We learned from the Red Cross that the town of Gander has a population of 10,400 people and they had about 10,500 passengers to take care of from all the airplanes that were forced into Gander!
We were told to just relax at the hotel and we would be contacted when the US airports opened again, but not to expect that call for a while.
We found out the total scope of the terror back home only after getting to our hotel and turning on the TV, 24 hours after it all started.
Meanwhile, we had lots of time on our hands and found that the people of Gander were extremely friendly. They started calling us the “plane people.” We enjoyed their hospitality, explored the town of Gander and ended up having a pretty good time.
Two days later, we got that call and were taken back to the Gander airport. Back on the plane, we were reunited with the passengers and found out what they had been doing for the past two days.
What we found out was incredible…..
Gander and all the surrounding communities (within about a 75 Kilometer radius) had closed all high schools, meeting halls, lodges, and any other large gathering places. They converted all these facilities to mass lodging areas for all the stranded travelers.
Some had cots set up, some had mats with sleeping bags and pillows set up.
ALL the high school students were required to volunteer their time to take care of the “guests.”
Our 218 passengers ended up in a town called Lewisporte, about 45 kilometers from Gander where they were put up in a high school. If any women wanted to be in a women-only facility, that was arranged.
Families were kept together. All the elderly passengers were taken to private homes.
Remember that young pregnant lady? She was put up in a private home right across the street from a 24-hour Urgent Care facility. There was a dentist on call and both male and female nurses remained with the crowd for the duration.
Phone calls and e-mails to the U.S. and around the world were available to everyone once a day.
During the day, passengers were offered “Excursion” trips.
Some people went on boat cruises of the lakes and harbors. Some went for hikes in the local forests.
Local bakeries stayed open to make fresh bread for the guests.
Food was prepared by all the residents and brought to the schools. People were driven to restaurants of their choice and offered wonderful meals. Everyone was given tokens for local laundry mats to wash their clothes, since luggage was still on the aircraft.
In other words, every single need was met for those stranded travelers.
Passengers were crying while telling us these stories. Finally, when they were told that U.S. airports had reopened, they were delivered to the airport right on time and without a single passenger missing or late. The local Red Cross had all the information about the whereabouts of each and every passenger and knew which plane they needed to be on and when all the planes were leaving. They coordinated everything beautifully.
It was absolutely incredible.
When passengers came on board, it was like they had been on a cruise. Everyone knew each other by name. They were swapping stories of their stay, impressing each other with who had the better time.
Our flight back to Atlanta looked like a chartered party flight. The crew just stayed out of their way. It was mind-boggling.
Passengers had totally bonded and were calling each other by their first names, exchanging phone numbers, addresses, and email addresses.
And then a very unusual thing happened.
One of our passengers approached me and asked if he could make an announcement over the PA system. We never, ever allow that. But this time was different. I said “of course” and handed him the mike. He picked up the PA and reminded everyone about what they had just gone through in the last few days.
He reminded them of the hospitality they had received at the hands of total strangers.
He continued by saying that he would like to do something in return for the good folks of Lewisporte.
“He said he was going to set up a Trust Fund under the name of DELTA 15 (our flight number). The purpose of the trust fund is to provide college scholarships for the high school students of Lewisporte.
He asked for donations of any amount from his fellow travelers. When the paper with donations got back to us with the amounts, names, phone numbers and addresses, the total was for more than $14,000!
“The gentleman, a MD from Virginia , promised to match the donations and to start the administrative work on the scholarship. He also said that he would forward this proposal to Delta Corporate and ask them to donate as well.
As I write this account, the trust fund is at more than $1.5 million and has assisted 134 students in college education.
“I just wanted to share this story because we need good stories right now. It gives me a little bit of hope to know that some people in a faraway place were kind to some strangers who literally dropped in on them.
It reminds me how much good there is in the world.”
“In spite of all the rotten things we see going on in today’s world this story confirms that there are still a lot of good people in the world and when things get bad, they will come forward.

I live about an hours drive from Gander and I remember that day well. Newfoundlander did that day what they do best, help people, especially people that are in distress. We have a saying in Newfoundland," there is no such thing as strangers, just friends we haven't met yet". We especially like tourist, so if you ever want to visit a place a little off the beaten path, come to Newfoundland and meet the people, our greatest resource. We have a beautiful province to go along with beautiful people. Our weather is not always beautiful but we do get a good summer and fall(most years).
Thank you 9ne for telling this story. In fact a number of people are in Gander now from New York presenting Gander with a piece of steel from one of the towers as an memento of 15 years since that day. I even wrote a song for the American people as encouragement to look to God for strength. The song called "The light that makes us free" which is partially patriotic and partially gospel, gets used in churches in the US.

My wife and I recently celebrated our 25th anniversary. On that day we both went parasailing for the first time ever. We were nervous but excited and had the best time floating 300' above the ocean...
