My wife runs a day care and I help out on my days off sometimes by playing music. I've written dozens of songs over the years, most of them just created on the spot based on what the kids want to sing about. I finally decided to record a few for fun. This one, like most of them I short with a simple lyric so the can sing along. I played it for them today and it got a few smiles. Mission accomplished! The lyric below had to change a bit to accommodate the melody. I haven't changed it yet because... Well, they can't read and I was tired after we finished! Lol! Thanks for listening! 6 Young Monkeys https://soundcloud.com/user-655800373/6-young-monkeysSix young monkeys Are walking through the jungle Stomping there feet And carrying their bundles Of bananas and pineapples Coconuts too Now they're swinging from the trees Like the monkeys do If I had my chance I'd be doing it too And I would swing with you Six young monkeys Were having such much good fun They lost all there bundles And now they have none No bananas or pineapples Or coconuts too Can't remember where they left them And they don't no what to do I'd like to help my friends We could make a special plan But I don't speak monkey So they'd never understand So six young monkeys They all worked together To find their bundles In the hot sunny weather Bananas and pineapples Coconuts too They found them where they left them Now they're not so blue If I had my chance I'd be doing it too No they're playing all day Like the monkeys do Six young monkeys Are walking through the jungle Stomping there feet And carrying their bundles

I like it, Tom. We should take our kids into consideration more when we write songs.

Very clever and cute as a button. Why do we say that? Are button's cute? But I digress. Put a smile on my face with the catchy melody and rhythm and like I said, it's really cute. You should try to do something with these songs if you choose. It's a lucrative genre if you can get a break and you already know what works with the kiddos.

Tom,
Great idea to write for the kids. A fun song.
Seems to me there is too much dissonance in this for your intended audience. It would confuse them. I may be wrong.

A really cute Children's Song, Tom:
I can just see them singing along and dancing about to this little gem. Nice!

Hi Tom,
This is a fun little jazzy children's song. Nice, uncluttered arrangement, and that right channel piano works great--I love the adventurous chords you are finding on the ivories.
Your lead vocal sits nicely on top of everything and I like your panning the music a good bit left and right--that helps the vocals get heard without too much compression.
Nicely done!
Mike

Thank you to everyone who has taken time to listen and share their thoughts. It is truly appreciated. I know that there is a market for childrens songs but this particular tune was geared towards the kids my wife watches who pretty much told me what they wanted the song to be about. Not sure if it is marketable or not but it got a few smiles from some little ones who were more than happy to sing along and that was very rewarding!
Thanks again!

Very cool. And Janice (the eternal child) absolutely loves it!!! As she says "never grow up -- it's a trap!"

How much fun is this! I can see a group of little ones dancing around the yard, making monkey sounds and singing along. Well done! Update your lyrics, not for the kids, for us! Ricki
