This Black vs White or Black vs Cops thread has brought out the worst in people. I am Canadian. You are my neighbour and and I grieve for what you have become.

I maintain this is the time to unite. To empathise, to embrace one another.

Bury that thread with examples of your goodness toward each other. Remind yourselves of how good you can be.

Make this thread a testament to what makes America your promised land.

Here is a wonderful example

No hugs required. It means embracing a position and hoping those who'd divide you come together....or at least drown out their divisiveness

It's about showing that Americans DO CARE ABOUT THEIR FELLOW CITIZENS

Hi John:

I know you mean well with this thread but I believe Jim was only attempting to bring in a little levity to the situation. I certainly care about our Police and Fire Departments across our nation... and for law abiding citizens who don't go about attempting to be race-baiters or haters.

All lives matter and obeying the law matters. Letting the justice system(s) we have in-place would be a much better strategy than protesting before all the facts are known.

I pray for peace a civility. Let us hope that happens.

I may have jumped the gun so to speak..if so, my apologies Jim.

I wanted visuals that inspired people, like the Youtube video of the cop playing basketball with the neighbourhood kids...to remind folks about all that is good in the USA

My goodness John,
What on earth are you talking about? We have a Constitution written way back in 1776 or so. So what that it has been shredded to hell and gone since then. And some think they can just do anything they want to. But sooner or later they realize their mistake, some of them anyway and then go on.

Thank you, John:

For having the courage to give Jim the benefit of the doubt. I truly believe no harm was intended.

The racial divide we are experiencing in the United States right now begins at the Seat of National Government in our White House.

Let us hope Mr. Obama will deliver a message of healing to the families of the dead officers when he speaks in Dallas.

Thanks for beginning this thread. It is a noble endeavor.

Well,
Here in the U.S. we still operate on the Free Enterprise system. Of course lately you would never know it. That in a nutshell means, you have the opportunity to go as far as you can go in life. Too many people think they have the right! to help themselves to your success without any pain. The most successful people are also the most generous in giving whatever and whatever they can. Because of some who think they can help themselves are learning a hard lesson. People are moving their assets where they can't be touched. Consequently many people that had nothing to do with it are also hurt.

Ray,

The stated purpose of this thread was:

"Make this thread a testament to what makes America your promised land."

Could you possibly refrain from ranting - on just ONE bloody thread?

Appreciate it.

OK 90 DB,
Gosh, sorry, did I touch a nerve with you DB.
If the country goes the way of Rome we should all hug each other, right? What I posted are the Cold Hard Facts, not a rant. And just so you know, my ancestors were here way before the Revolution.
If people had never done the things necessary before the Welfare State we would have been gone a long time ago. If you like the situation in the country, so be it. Oh, and it has been reported, time after time, that all the Social Government Programs are going Bankrupt. And Many Pension Funds as well. Well 90 DB, they say Hell is for Heroes. Good luck.

Oh, sorry 90 DB. Just read on Fox News that most of the Obama Care Co-Ops have now failed. Is Rome in the Headlights?

One thing that has been clear for years is that many of us on this website hold a lot of spite in our hearts, and, on a daily basis, we proclaim and defend our bitter hearts. We do this because we believe we are good and right, and others are problematic and bad.

We are mistaken.

This website has become toxic again. A lot of people griping and opining about other people's flaws. Gross.

I'll never make a "dramatic departure" post because my habits pull me back in once in awhile...then again, I doubt I'll ever consider this a safe place to share music either. Too much negativity and judgement of others opinions without the same sensitivity we bring to the table when we critique songs.

Just remember this: what we write is who we are to others.

May your music speak your heart. Cheers.

Dear Mark...I hear ya:-)

Dear John, in keeping with what I percieve your intent was in starting this thread. Here's my attempt to add a link to what makes America great....

The sons of sharecroppers.
The grandsons of slaves.

They were not born with any "advantages", including the gift of "sight"...

And yet....Over the years....

They came up with this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE4k76VjGdY

And this link, IMHO, is a sampling of what makes "America Great"...

Thanks for asking, John. I hope I addressed your intention properly:-)

F^ck politics....THIS is why we were Blessed with music.

And for what it's worth, "Music" will be my only focus on JPF this year...If anyone needs to expound their political agenda, then please count me out, but please, feel free to boor yourselves to tears and aggravation and getting your "agendas" out there...

With all the kindness in my heart...

Midnite

Um, Well,
The folks on the Five were asking today what their favorite Rock and Roll song was. For a while I couldn't think of any as I was more Attuned to Country. However I now have the answer, I think! The answer is, Drum Roll please! WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. It came out at the time when Rock and Roll first went mainstream. 1956.

Yeah Bob...great link...and thank you.

And Mark, we have told our kids time and again that what you write on the internet stays with you. It is a well known fact that potential employers check out social media sites.

I expect anyone who wants to find out about someone will simply google them. So you have to be comfortable with what you post in a public forum.

We are definitely defined by what we say.

Anyway, I hope we see more examples here about what it is that unites us all.

Thanks to those who have already done so

It would probably be great for everyone to listen to the music from that lost Havana.

Living in Duluth, Minnesota, I am well aware of the position internationally and with The Great Lakes. And how important a position that is and with the military. And the voting population here is over 70 percent Democrat with that.
Conditions are volatile. People in the U.S in the southern region of Texas and throughout the southern U.S have the most to worry about with the balance between freedom and despotic rule, especially since there are not the controls in place south of that.

But who could bring America to anarchy or cult rule come from outside the border, and not the least, who conspires or is mislead from within.
The entire North American continent is at stake. Europe is definitely in flux, but how uncomfortable does the average citizen with the faltering conditions have to be?
The black and white thread in a sense looks to be an example of many throughout history of a cultural civil war that needs not to exist.
I should only hope that a president would mention the lives of the 5 officers slain in Texas and a mention of observing silence.

Yes, there really needs to be serenity and a coming together.

I have had the same thoughts of employers looking in. How much can people take with being subject as a despot.
