Hey Louis, So nice to hear your songwriting honored with a Mike Z arrangement. Just lovely. Mike that Mandolin was excellent. You have got to have small fingers. You got up there man. And I loved that sneaky distorted guitar over there on the left. Nice. Tom

Jim, Floyd, Mackie, Calvin, Tom, Ricki, and Iggy2..
Thanks for giving this a listen and I'm made very happy in the knowledge that you enjoyed it. It ended up, to me, sounding a little like "The Band" circa Big Pink.
Louis writes classy, memorable songs that touch my heart and are fun to work on.
Thanks again!
Mike

Hi Louis and Mike:
Collaboration by singing your own song is an interesting concept but since I sing and play my own works, I prefer to have demos sung by a demo singer... and in this case, having a singer who can cover all the bases seems to defeat the purpose of the demo... unless you have no plans to pitch it to others.
Nothing wrong with your version... and for me, it was hard to "let go" and allow someone else to sing my songs... but after Mike had performed his magic in the production of my music plus the addition of his well-trained voice, to me... it makes pitching much easier... and that I why I seek demos. Mikes' rates are so very reasonable compared to the big demo houses in the Nashville area.
Best of luck with the song. Loved the message. ----Dave

Ricki and I often cry from the unique beauty we're hearing in Louis' vocals (Ricki has a running joke with Louis over this very thing)--there's oft times something very moving going on with his singing, and this performance was no exception, in my humble opinion. And it just so happens Louis has got a following with his Church, and they requested he record some of the songs he's been singing to them and at services and all. So his choice to use his vocals with my arrangement and harmonies makes perfect sense. When coming from an "artist" POV (like Louis and Ricki), having a demo-maker fill things in musically around the artists' vocals is a perfectly sound choice and great way to proceed. I actually love the work I've done making Ricki's and now Louis' songs shine, using their pre-existing vocals and guitar parts. Bottom line is: I just want my "clients" to be happy. Louis and Ricki are my friends, too. Double reason to just want them to be happy. Mike

thanks iggy2, appreciate you listening.
Thanks Dave, yep I'm just making this to give a way, I don't pitch anything

Hi Louis and Mike:
Thanks for taking time to explain the reason behind the way you chose to do this song. Happiness is success... and this one has a very special message. Pitching songs is a chore beyond belief and I suspect you will be rewarded in more ways than most of us can imagine... by giving your songs to others. Well done! ----Dave

Pitching songs is a chore beyond belief and I suspect you will be rewarded in more ways than most of us can imagine... by giving your songs to others. Well done! ----Dave Hi Dave, At the risk of belaboring this, I just want to be absolutely clear: To me, Louis' intended use of "When I Get To Heaven" is of negligible importance. I get two types of clients: (1) singer-songwriters who just need a producer/arranger, and (2) songwriters who need a full-fledged demo-maker who sings. Singer-songwriters like Ricki and Louis want to showcase their songs with their own vocals, whereas a songwriter who doesn't perform wants/needs the whole enchilada, and is probably intending to "pitch" at some point. Since Louis is a singer-songwriter--an artist, it is of the utmost importance that I recognize his musical needs and try to give him what he wants. And what a client wants is usually based on their talents and self-image..how they "see themselves" and maybe a little bit how others "see them." But beyond that, thanks Dave, and sorry for rattling on..thanks for listening and the nice comments. Mike

Strong vocals, strong write and the mandolin seems tailor made for the song. It sparkles.
Yup, we like it!
