River Road
©2016 Robert Randall Burke

Down by the river late at night
Silver moon's the only light
That shines on you
Gazing in your azure eyes
You know it made me realize
I love you.

Way out here on River Road
You can leave that crazy
City life behind you
Way out here on River Road
The one that seeks you out
Will never find you.

Now before me, here you stand
Your broken halo in your hand
And cryin'
I can take away your strife
And show you there is more to life
Than dyin'.

Way out here on River Road
You can leave that empty life
Behind you
Way out here on River Road
You can come and cleanse your soul
And start anew.

Way out here on River Road
You can leave that crazy
City life behind you
Way out here on River Road
The one that seeks you out
Will never find you.

Yeah, way out here on River Road
The one that seeks you out
Will never find you.

Very nice, Bob.
The music is a perfect match to the lyric.
Not sure about the break in the music but it may grow on me

Reminds me of Chris Isaac.

Hey Bob,

I'm with Vic, there's definitely a Chris Isaak feel to this one!

I really liked the music and the lyric was intriguing/quasi-haunting. Makes me want to know more about the back story....

Thanks for sharing!!

Cheers,
Beth

Super COOL, Bob!

Your vocals are always strong - and this might be your best!

Excellent write.

"Now before me, here you stand
Your broken halo in your hand
And cryin'
I can take away your strife
And show you there is more to life
Than dyin'."

WOW.

Excellent production. I like the break. Thought the banjo should be a tad louder at the end.

One of my 90dB favorites, for sure!!! Standing O on this.

Hi Bob and Penny:

Perfect description of Glen Rose, Texas... LOL! Really enjoyed the laid-back feel of the song. Several lines stood out and I won't be guilty of over-kill... but you write well, sing well and obviously perform well. No real nits. Thanks for sharing and best of luck with "River Road." ----Dave

Your production sounds like pro stuff to my ears.

Sounds as good as Chris Isaac's "Wicked Game" or Simple Mind's - Don't You (forget about me).

Well done indeed.

Bob,

What a super cool song and vibe. This is a song that will definitely stick on your mind--cool arrangement, nice performance.

I'm with Vic on the break, I like the concept, just think a little more experimenting there is needed to find the exact right sound and volume of that sound. If keeping what you have there in that break, what about increasing the volume there, then actually stopping completely, then use a return "flam snare" hit to initiate the song again. It in my mind would make a great place to break away as you did but then bring in a synth sound of some sort, maybe like an Emmerson Lake and Palmer song. (The break is a cool idea and it's not bad as is, but feels not perfected--experiment some more). JMO.

But more importantly, this song is awesome.

Oh yeah moon light on River Road...we had a river road when I was
in high school -- had one of the last remaining swinging bridges in
Ga over it.

Bud

Wonderful imagery happening with your production and the vocal
nails it. We like the instrumental interlude - evocative.

Janice commented that the interlude coming after the word "anew" was perfect and
then the fiddle set the mood for as she said "that peaceful road."

Another fine addition to your catalog!

Hey Bob,
Interesting an AAA style. Nice. Very intrepid using that Electronic beat. I don't mind it. But I bet a real acoustic drum would be nice too.
Beautifully recorded and preformed.

Bob, WOW! Haunting and memorable. Loved the vibe throughout. I wonder if your 2nd verse should be first because it's so strong visually. Just a thought.

Hi Bob,

I love the drum machine in this. I love the genre bending of bluegrass, new age, and electronica..and the song itself shines and demands another listen, and another..

Your voice effortlessly owns this material.
