Another FAWM tune. Couple of mistakes here and there. I never play the ukulele except for FAWM and 50/90 activities so that is always fun! Cold Black Night(c) Emmrich 2016(verse) it's threatening to snow dark clouds are rolling in do you still have that coat I gave you way back then (verse) it'll keep you warm when all else fails sometimes promises don't last to the end (chorus) cause when you're on the outside and you're laying low it's hard to remember a fire's cheerful warm glow (break = verse+chorus) (bridge) Hold me tight you said never let go lost my grip let you slip into that cold black night (vocalize over verse) Kevin: acoustic guitar, slide guitar, ukulele, vocals

Nice pretty melody, Kevin.
May need to rephrase "do you still ... have that coat". to sing smoother.
Just a sugg. UOL "it's hard to remember when the good times flowed"

Hi Kevin, This song has a cheerful warm glow. This reminds me of The Incredible String Band in their hey day--a little on the psychedelic side, rhythmically loose, adventurous and spirited. Nice vocals and production as well. Mike

Man did Mike ever nail it when he said it reminded him of Rod Stewart's Gasoline Alley days. That is one of our absolute favorite albums. And in our book being compared to that is way off the chart -- in the good way.
It's got that loosey goosey feel we love -- loose in the positive sense. Open, airy and as somebody said hypnotic.
If it ain't obvious by now we love every aspect of it. You FAWN folks are amazing.

Hi Kevin,
What a nice unique song. I enjoyed everything about it. I might be curious to flip the bridge and solo--not sure, but have you experimented there?
Nice music especially.

This is wonderful, Kevin. The overall feel covers for the uneven phrasing and non-rhyme scheme. I've come to accept those as being a part of your style and it's a pretty good style to have. Well done. Ricki

Calvin: Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment!
Vic: Suggestions always welcome. I was thinking "peaceful" instead of "cheerful", but I haven't made any changes yet. You should have heard it before I did the first re-phrasing (ha, ha). Thanks for stopping on by.
Floyd: Thanks for the mighty kind words.
Jim: Thanks for stopping on by and giving it a spin.
Michael: I love that Gasoline Alley album. There is some phenomenal playing on that record. As a side note, I have some of the "re-mastered" versions on a compilation CD of Rod's. The original vinyl mastering just sounds better to me. In fact I think a couple of tunes are slightly sped up on the digitally mastered versions!
I'll come back for the others later.

yeah Kevin,i noticed that a lot of remastered versions don't take kindly to my ear also.I guess i grew up listening to an album one way for a long time and don't like change too much. But some have turned out okay.Mike

Hi Kevin:
I'm impressed with knowing it was written and recorded under the stress and pressure of FAWM. Zaneski has such a way with words... so I'll be content to let him speak for me. Enjoyed.

lots of talent Kevin, nice way to knock the dust off..
[Haven't played the ukulele since July (50/90) so it was good to break that out again.]
sounds great to me, the vocals fit in this so well, good job. Lane

Mackie: Thanks for the listen and comments!
Michael Z: I don't know much about The Incredible String Band, I'll have to give tem a listen.
Janice & Bud: Yea, there is some incredible playing (and songwriting) going on in that album. If I had to pick one sound to go after, that wouldn't be a bad choice. Of course I can't sing like Rod!
steady-eddie: Most of my FAWM songs tend to be on the shorter side. If I ever decide to re-write that one, I'll keep your suggestion in mind.
Ricki: I actually am a firm believer in rhyme scheme control and all that stuff -- but I seem to forget about it when writing these short ones (ha, ha). Thanks for the listen and comments.
Michael II: It is all about the loudness wars these days. Everything has to be at the same volume because it has become too hard to expect folks to actually use their volume knob!
Dave: Thanks for giving it a listen, it is always appreciated.
lane1777: The ukulele is such a fun instrument. I tend to use it as a "poor man's" mandolin (ha, ha).
Niteshift: It does tend to bring a log cabin feel to mind, thanks for the remarks and listen.

Pleasant song Kevin. I think it would be a little stronger if you rhymed an "in" sound at the end of the second line in V2.
Imo...waiting until the end of V2 for the rhyme disengages the rhyming pattern slightly.
Nonetheless...nice song

I think you have one of those forever youthful voices. It draws you into the song right away.
Your ukulele play sounds great to my ears.

Kevin,
Nice little Blue grass love song! How about saying "way back when" in the first verse?
Nice tune!
