Howdy JPFers everywhere! I posted this song about a year ago, just my guitar/vocal. Now I want to share this all grown up version. It's a duet and along with his awesome vocals, Mike Zaneski has sprinkled it with his production magic. Let us know what you think. Thanks, Ricki https://soundcloud.com/rickib/one-word-love-1ONE WORD LOVE Where is that spark we had That do or die look when we thought we had it made Where are those plans we shared That all or nothing let’s do something proved we cared I’d travel the universe to feel it again And remind you of us back then One man, one woman, one dream, one word love Talking ’bout a thing called love One man, one woman, one dream, one word love Talking ‘bout love, one word love We never mean to hurt But some words have the power to destroy the heart Whatever it might have cost I have to believe our love is stronger than what’s lost I’d travel the universe to feel it again And remind you of us back then REPEAT CHORUS We work so well together on common ground Just take my hand, let’s turn this around REPEAT CHORUS Talking ‘bout a thing called love One word love ©Ricki E. Mike's right. First word I thought of - "smooth". Cool collab! Very well done! Has a "Carpenters" feel to it. Best, John

Dang, this one comes right out and says "hey I am a pro recording!!"
Very fine fine vocals, too. It is a pleasant mix throughout and the performances are top-notch. I think you all need to be mighty proud of this duet. I am sucker for trumpets!!
Good idea for the bridge, it comes in at just the right time.

Ricki and Mike -
A great big WOW to you both on this!
What a nice write this is! The lyric is "comfortable" (I love comfortable lyrics). It says what it needs to without ever trying to "get clever" and it never stumbles. And a knock-out melody... Along with the trumpet (the whole production, really) it sounds and feels like a Carpenters HIT - from the hit-factory of David/Bacharach...
The vocals are a delight...again, reminiscent of a Carpenters' hit - easy, comfortable, smooth. You guys sound great together.
Mike, your productions is incredible. Top-tier, big-time kind. Very much like the song... easy, comfortable, nothing out of place.
This is one of the best things I've ever heard on this forum.
This should be on the radio (or, at least, the radio I remember from when radio was an important part of my youth)
HUGE.

Hi Michael, John, Vic, Calvin, Kevin, and Floyd.. Thanks for listening and it really makes my day knowing you enjoyed it. Ricki is an amazing song-writer and performer and producing this was a pure joy. Floyd, you nailed it with the Bacharach comment (thanks for that!)--that's exactly what I was going for. Thanks again, folks. Mike

oh yeah, this is smooth as bourbon on rocks,i'll have another round.Great job Ricki and Michael.Mike We agree so long as it is an excellent small batch bourbon! "One man, one woman, one dream, one word love" Oh yeah, great line and a scenario both of us live everyday. We like floyd's description of "comfortable." We really like the intimate vocals that are out front (in a good way) and are very well supported by the laid back mix of the backing tracks. Nice write, vocals, and instrumental tracks all wrapped up in the perfect production. It sounds tremendous on our monitors. We enjoyed it! J&B

A big fat WOW back atcha, Floyd! Thanks for all the warm fuzzies. Magic Mike delivered just what the song needed and has consistently made me sound better than I am. Now all we have to do is wait until the 70s come back. Ricki

Bud, Janice, Travis, James, and Lane..
Thanks, all..I consider myself a "journeyman" at this, but I'm usually giving my best efforts, and trying to listen and learn and grow as a musician and performer and producer.
Ricki makes my job very easy, really. Her songs..this song..screamed what it wanted and needed..and Ricki is very easy going to work with and she helped me figure out how to sing this better than I originally did.
Ricki, concerning the seventies coming back around..(it was a joke I know!!) --but there's really a whole modern subgenre of music known as "Baroque Pop" that's sprung up around pop music that utilizes a Bacharach sound, or otherwise classical influenced sounding arrangement. In fact my favorite band "The Divine Comedy" cut their teeth on that sound. There's probably more artists today that sound like Bacharach then back in the day! Check out "A Short Album About Love" by The Divine Comedy..one of my all-time favorites..
Mike

Hey guys,
Nice one Ricki, and nice work Michael.
Smooth is the word, like Mike L said--makes me want to pour myself a drink!
I'd be curious to hear this without the trumpet and replaced with a flute. The trumpet is fine, but feels Herb Albert-esk. A flute I think would work and give the song a more current vibe, as well and fit this mellow vibe. JMO.
I enjoyed my listen guys!

Thanks for checking this one out, Eddie. The feel I was going for is very much in keeping with the horns so, they're staying! I was looking for retro and that's what Mike gave me. Glad you enjoyed it. Ricki

Hey Ricki and Mike, Well first you had me at the pic of the adorable little couple on your Soundcloud page...and THEN you went ahead and wrote, produced and performed the heck out of their story ... Kudos on a fabulous collaboration! I am such a sucker for a duet and any harmonies whatsoever, and the musication was so well-suited to the ultimately hopeful lyrics. I especially loved this line: I have to believe our love is stronger than what's lost Keep 'em coming you two!! Thanks for sharing, Beth

One word from me-----------------GREAT!!! I had a smile ear to ear while listening. Love it all...production, vocals, vibe, melody. Burt Bacharach would be proud and yes, this feels like something up his alley. Never heard of that classification for a genre but I like it and I like what the genre represents. You just fed me dessert and I haven't even had dinner!!! Best to both of you, Lynn

Martin, Eddie, Beth, and Lynn.. Thanks for all the love, folks. I've been thinking about "community" a lot lately, and damned if we don't have that here. The best thing about the Internet is places like this, where we can share with each other and learn from one another. Thanks again for listening, and listening to my ramblings as well, lol.. I so look forward to Ricki's songs. I'm thinking we must've listened to a lot of similar music in our formative years. Mike
